The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

那是我一岁多快两岁的时候，那一天我的凉鞋的鞋底坏了，妈妈和爸爸就骑着摩托车带着我去买鞋了，我当时可能知道要去买鞋了，就对妈妈说：“妈妈，我要把鞋脱掉，然后扔了。”妈妈笑着说：“你个小淘气包，知道要去买新东西了就要把旧东西给扔掉，你可真是个喜新厌旧的小男孩呀。”说了那么多，你先把我的鞋扔了在和我聊天。妈妈无可奈何的把鞋藏到背后不让我看见，但是我一会就找到了，死活要把鞋扔了，妈妈只好让爸爸停车，下去之后把鞋装到了后背箱里，但是，这还是被我识破了。我妈妈就对我说：“你把鞋留着，回去卖钱，卖的钱给你买冰激凌吃。”我一听，喜了，就高兴的答应了。我不仅是个喜新忘旧的人，还是一个心软的人，那一次让全家人哭笑不得。

那时我才三岁，还在上小班的时候，我刚学会两个英语单词，一个boy，一个girl。有一个小女孩，打了我一下，我没有还手，她还以为我不敢打她，就又打了我几下，我身上一经红的红紫的紫，流血的是流血，但还是没还一次手，回到家，我哇的一声哭了起来，姨姨、爸爸、妈妈、姥姥、姥爷都关心的问我是怎么回事，我哭着说：“有一个女孩打我。”确实有伤，我姨姨就问我：“你为什么不打她?”我说：“我是boy，她是girl，boy是不能打girl的。”正是这样，我被她打伤了好几次。但如果是男孩的话，我就会毫不心软的把他打趴在地。是因为这种性格，所以才给我转了幼儿园。

每个人都有性格，我的性格是不是很搞笑呢，你呢?

In my view, above all, one should be a person of strong perseverance. Rome was not built in a day. On our long way to success, there are undoubtedly many difficulties standing in the way. How can an isolated person be well-informed enough to go ahead of others? If so, that could be ridiculous. Success is what one desires. So long as one is perseverant, hard working and up-to-date, I am sure success is near at hand.
