The Spring Festival is my most favorite festival, because it’s time for family gathering. And the Spring Festival is a new start of a year. It brings me hope and courage. The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar(中国的农历). It’s China’s New Year’s Day. So usually a month before the festival people begin to buy food clothes and decorations(装饰) for houses.

About a week before the festival housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the houses. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new year’s family reunion（团聚）.

On New Year Eve each family will gather tighter eating talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from parents or grandparents.

On Lunar New Year’s Day after getting up people will eat dumplings. When they meet their neighbours or friends they’ll say: “Happy New Year!”

Spring Festival is the most important and popular festival in China. I was very happy during the Spring Festival. Before Spring Festival, My grandmother, mother and father cleaned and decorated our houses. And they went to the Flower Fairs to buy some flowers. They also bought new clothes for me and my sisters.

2、源于古代“压惊”。说是太古时有一种凶兽叫“年”，隔365日后之夜，就要出来伤害人畜、庄稼。小孩子害怕，大人则以燃竹响声驱“年”，用食品安慰小孩，即为“压惊”。年久日深，便演变为以货币代食物，至宋便有“压惊钱”。据史载，王韶子南陔，因被坏人背走，于途中惊呼，才被皇车所救，宋神宗即赐了他“压惊金犀钱”。以后才发展为“压岁钱”。
