There is an old man living next to my house. I can see him every day when I

walk down the street. He sells shoes every day and he has done the business for

more than 20 years. Most people have changed their career but only he insists. I

Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

学习态度有所端正：自从进入了高中，学习有了更高的自觉性，平时根本就不需要我们督促你。而且还知道合理安排时间来查漏补缺，比如每天晚上都交叉学习各门功课。还主动的要求我们帮你买课外习题、课外读物。还找到了一些学习的小窍门，比如说用小本子记下公式和容易忘记的内容，带在身上，随时随地拿出来学习学会了关爱父母：每次回家看不见爸爸或者妈妈，都会问爸爸呢，妈妈呢，或者谁先睡觉，就会问怎么了是不是病了。提醒我网上购物小心上当受骗。最让我感动的一次是咱家的门锁坏了，当时我急着埋怨你爸，你却在旁边说，事情都发生了，埋怨有什么用，想办法解决吧。一边帮着撬锁，一边提醒我要小心别把手弄伤了。儿子到底是大了，知道如何应对一些事情，还知道如何爱护自己的父母了。

学会了自理：平时能很合理的安排自己的一切事务，虽然微不足道，有进步就应该表扬，再说说你的失吧，通过上次我对你的提醒，你的那些小毛病有了很大的改变，现在只和你谈谈网瘾。

网络是把双刃剑，其实里面有很多值得你学习的东西，而你却没有好好利用，这也是我们的过错，一直以来都想着，你学习辛苦紧张，休息的时候让你玩玩游戏放松放松心情，调节调节情绪，所以没有限制你，可是越来越发现你对网络的迷恋。网络游戏毕竟是虚幻的，在里面打打杀杀，没有法制没有责任，严重脱离现实，这样在你的心灵深处会造成没有责任感，产生不同程度的心理障碍和对人生的逃避。你不能因为各方面的压力而在游戏中找回自信，找到成功，现实生活是无法逃避的，这是个不争的事实，所以你应该远离网络游戏，回到现实中来，以积极的心态去面对一切。

因为迷恋游戏，平时休息就是在网上度过，所以你会失去很多宝贵的时间和机会：

一、失去更多的学习时间。

都是一个老师教的，都是一样的学习时间，为什么有的同学就是成绩优异呢，除了掌握好的学习方法外还有一点就是他们充分利用了空闲时间，比如说休息的空档，假期的空闲，不是说要你时刻学习学习再学习，你要学会利用空闲时间。道理讲过无数次了，三年高中你拼命努力学习，在以后就会轻松很多，难道这个道理你还不明白吗，你要时刻记住，今天工作不努力，明天努力找工作，这句话同样也可以用在学习上。再说，你们这届以后就不再分文理班，也就是说，你只有三年的学习时间，即使高考失败也没有任何机会没有任何选择的来挽救。三年，漫长而短暂，眨眼的功夫，就如你初中三年，稍纵即逝。所以请你务必抓紧这三年，不能放松一切学习的机会。

these days; I wonder what is the matter, tell me?” the swallow did not speak,

the prince forced the swallow to tell him; but he still didn’t say anything. At

last the prince said, “If you don’t tell me I will put dynamites on your head

and blow you up! I was trying to help you!”

At these words the swallow was so scared that he said out loud, “I heard

the little girl say that that wasn’t enough to pay for his father, and so I

That was the end of the happy prince. During the lives when he was a golden

statue, he realized how important everybody was to him, and that how important

helping people is.

I like to eat different kinds of delicious food ， however， my favorite food

is dumplings. In my spare time ， I like to make dumplings with my mother . I

think home-made dumplings are more delicious than those in supermarket .My

mother knows I love to eat them ，so she makes dumplings at every weekend . I

prefer eating dumplings . How about you ?

Dear Mr。 Wang，

I am writing to apologize for my late homework。 The paper which you have assigned to us last Monday was due this Friday， but to my regret， I havent even started it yet。 I feel really sorry for not handing in the paper on time and for the inconvenience it would bring to you。

I have caught a serious cold last week and the doctor asked me to stay in bed for a week since I was very weak and the weather was very cold these days。 Therefore， I couldnt go to the library to get the necessary referential information which was needed for my paper。 As a result of this， I have not started writing the paper yet and could not hand it in on time。

Fortunately I have finally fully recovered。 I will finish the paper as soon as I can and try my best to hand in homework on time in the future。

When someone disagrees with you or offends you, don’t lose your temper.

Why? Because it is of no use to do so. You ought to (should) be patient and keep

calm lest you should quarrel with him. You must know that patience is not

cowardice, but a virtue. I hope that everybody practices it.

In addition, patience will also bring us success. When you meet with

difficulties in your work, it is no use losing heart. You must keep on fighting

Dear Mr. Seaton， Thank you very much for taking me with you on that

splendid outing to London. It was the first time that I had seen the Tower or

any of the other famous sights. If Id gone alone, I couldnt have seen nearly

as much, because I wouldnt have known my way about. The weather was splendid on

that day, which I thought was rare.

I still remember some people told me that in Britain there was weather and

no climate. During the same day, it might snow in the morning, rain at noon,

shine in the afternoon and be windy before the night falls. So I think I was

lucky.

I think the river trip was the best thing of all. London really came alive

for me as we saw it from the Thames during that wonderful journey down to

Greenwich. It was all tremendously exciting - a day that I shall never

forget.
