The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party. The Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival is one rich in poetic(诗意的) significance. Ancient legends(古代的传说) that became interwoven with this festival‘s celebration further contribute to the warm regard in which it has always been held by the Chinese people. According to the lunar calendar(农历)， the seventh， eighth， and ninth months constitute the autumn season. Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month， precisely in the middle of this season， when the heat of the summer has given way to cool autumn weather， marked by blue skies and gentle breezes. On this day the moon is at its greatest distance from the earth; at no other time is it so luminous. The actual origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival are still very unclear. The earliest records are from the time of the great Han dynasty emperor Wu Di， who initiated celebrations lasting three days， including banquets and “Viewing the Moon” evenings on the Toad Terrace. We know that people during the Jin dynasty (265-420 A.D.) continued the custom of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations， and similar accounts have come down to us from the time of the Tang dynasty. During the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) houses and gardens were decorated with numerous lanterns and the sound of gongs and drums filled the air.

The Double Seventh Festival, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, is a traditional festival full of romance. It often goes into August in the Gregorian calendar.

So he lived by himself herding cattle and farming. One day, a fairy from heaven Zhi Nu (Weaver Maid) fell in love with him and came down secretly to earth and married him. The cowhand farmed in the field and the Weaver Maid wove at home. They lived a happy life and gave birth to a boy and a girl. Unfortunately, the God of Heaven soon found out the fact and ordered the Queen Mother of the Western Heavens to bring the Weaver Maid back.

With the help of celestial cattle, the Cowhand flew to heaven with his son and daughter. At the time when he was about to catch up with his wife, the Queen Mother took off one of her gold hairpins and made a stroke. One billowy river appeared in front of the Cowhand. The Cowhand and Weaver Maid were separated on the two banks forever and could only feel their tears. Their loyalty to love touched magpies, so tens of thousands of magpies came to build a bridge for the Cowhand and Weaver Maid to meet each other. The Queen Mother was eventually moved and allowed them to meet each year on the 7th of the 7th lunar month. Hence their meeting date has been called "Qi Xi" (Double Seventh).

Dog trainer Mary Segall is with Canine Companions for Independence. It provides dogs forpeople with disabilities. Ms. Segall says successful training is based on a simple rule:preparation.

"Dogs need to be exposed gradually and repetitively to stimulation, to the environment, toloud noises, to sounds and other dogs so that when this experience happens to them on adaily basis, theyre able to act in a way that theyre used to acting and that they dont getexcitable."

Stacy Huckebas nine-month-old dog, Striker, is still in training to be a guide dog.

"I dont fly a lot so I dont know a lot, but, so I dont know the routine myself. So with a dog Iwould have been lost."

Dog owners who attended the training at Air Hollywood K9 Flight School say they now feelmuch more at ease about future flights. Their dogs also seem ready for takeoff.

It is said that Chengdu is a city which if you come you cant leave.It has a long history.there stands Du Fus thatched cottage ,The Temple of Zhugeliang and some other place of historical interest.They are all so famous that many foreign tourists like to come here.Chengdu also has a comfortable weather for people who live in there.Even though in the winter it is still warmer than any other cities in China.Besides,as Chengdu people are fond of eating,they have created many delicious food such as hot pan,Three Big guns,and some others.

I have a white dog.Its name is Bobo.She is a female dog.She comes from Beijing,China.She has two big eyes and a small month.She wears white clothes.

She often walks around at home.It has nothing to do.She likes eating ice-cream so much,So do I.When I eat ice-cream,she will look at the ice-cream carefully.So I will give her some to eat.
