The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

瞧!这个小女孩，一米三左右的个子，头发系成一束漂亮的"马尾"高翘脑后，一双眼睛虽然不大却充满神采，显得很机灵。唯一美中不足的嘛，是嘴里那排洁白的小士兵，有一两个长得有些调皮。 呵呵，这就是我! 我叫城，名字很特别，对吗?不错，我姓"城"，普天之下只有我一个人独占此姓，是我老爸专门为我创造的;至于""呀，也比较特殊，电脑字库里不太好找，《现代汉语辞典》的解释是"古代传说中的一种神珠"。特殊的姓，特殊的名，自然就寄托了老爸对我特殊的希望。记得在我很小的时候，爸爸就拿古代一位杰出女诗人的名句来激励我，这位女诗人叫李清照，她的名句是"生当做人杰，死亦为鬼雄"。"为鬼雄"呀，那是百年之后的事情做人杰"嘛，现在也还不敢当。不过不甘人后还是应该的。还好，从小到大，本小姐基本上没给关心我的人丢了脸。 幼儿园的时候，每年"六一"儿童节我都要把"红花幼儿"的大红奖状捧回家。五周岁那年，我还参加了由共青团吕梁地委、妇联吕梁地区办事处和石州电视台联合举办的"离石城区少儿电视风采大赛"，面对年龄比我大一点的"哥哥姐姐"什么的，我也没感到怎么害怕，一不留神还得了个三等奖，把一台电子游戏机抱回家来。嘿嘿，让老爸老妈高兴得呀，一晚上合不拢嘴! 2000年秋天，我来到了离石市第一小学，开始了我的"小学生涯"。我牢记老爸"品德好、学习好、身体好"的教导，尊敬老师，团结同学，勤奋学习，不久就光荣地加入了少先队。我入学早，比同年级的同学小了一岁，可我坚信"有志不在年高"，决心在学习上与大家一比高低。上学后第一次统考，成绩处在班里中等偏上水平，但名次毕竟靠后了些。我不服输，沉住气，刻苦钻研，奋起直追，呵呵，第二次考试一举冲入了全班前几名。从此，我就一直在班里名列前茅，在全校也算是"榜上有名"了。 我爱读书，但不死读书、读死书。利用节假日，我不仅参加了英语兴趣小组的学习，还先后进行了系统的舞蹈训练、电子琴学习，前不久我又开始学打乒乓球。广泛的爱好，加上开朗、活泼、幽默的性格，使我得到了同学们的喜欢。 我也喜欢和小朋友们玩耍做游戏。在和大家玩得累的时候，我又常常给大家讲个小笑话和小故事什么的，让大家开心。当然我最喜欢的还是看书，一看书就什么都忘了，用爸爸的话说就是"达到忘我的境界了"。书里的世界很精彩哟，是书本让我懂的了许多许多，也是书本让我想懂得更多更多。我还喜欢写作，因为它可以丰富我的生活，让我把心里话告诉别人。 呵，也许您要说：你把自己说成一朵花了，就一点缺点也没有?惭愧，惭愧，人是吃五谷杂粮的，最不缺少的就是缺点。我最大的缺点是四个字--粗心大意。咳，就因为这四个字，让本姑娘在考试的时候"屡受损失"! 好了，这就是我!我有优点，也有缺点。优点嘛，我当然会发扬光大;缺点嘛，我自然也会努力克服。我的口号也是：没有最好，只有更好!

今天是三八妇女节，是妈妈们的节日，我祝妈妈三八妇女节快乐，身体健健康康，工作顺顺利利。

午饭之后，我先做了一张代表祝福的贺卡给妈妈，来表达我对她的祝福，可我还能为妈妈做些什么呢？对了，我还可以为妈妈做些家务，减轻妈妈的负担，妈妈肯定很高兴。心动不如行动，得趁妈妈没回来之前，把事情全部做完。

拿起扫把，先从房间扫起。表面上看看一点儿都不脏，但是那扫把往柜子底下、床底下那么一扫，好多讨厌的灰尘都出来了，扫着扫着，腰都酸了，没想到妈妈扫地那么辛苦。把灰尘扫到簸箕里去，讨厌的灰尘满天飞舞着，弄得我都打喷嚏了。终于扫好地了，该拖地了。

我拿着又长又重的拖把开始从我的房间拖起，一开始拖拖还挺轻松的，那拖过的地干净极了，但是一拖到柜子底下、床底下又脏了，我就使劲拖，拖的干干净净，终于地也拖好了。趁妈妈还没回来，我把桌子也抹了一遍。

一阵脚步声从门外传来，妈妈回来了，妈妈进门一看好干净的家！妈妈笑了笑，说我很能干。晚上睡觉了，妈妈又看见贺卡，脸笑得象朵花。
