My sister and I used to play with the next-door children; their father is an elementary school teacher. Sometimes when we played together in the house we made so much noise that my mother wanted us to play outside, so we went to the seashore to look for crabs and clams, and pretty seashells, too. Also, we enjoyed running on the beach chasing each other. On breezy days we used to enjoy flying kites on the beach. When I look back on my early life in the village, I feel I had a happy childhood.

一只茧，静静地挂在树上，在春日的阳光里显得格外扎眼。

它已经过了一个冬日的考验，孤零零地在树上随风摆来摆去。

茧儿里面有了一只毛毛虫，它只知道自己是毛毛虫，在努力地挣扎着，它已经睡了大半个冬天，它不知道会发生什么，只知道自己的内心有一股力量在主动挣脱束缚！

茧外面的世界，依旧平常宁静，可谁知道，茧儿内心狭小的空间里，有一只虫儿在挣扎！外面的春光依旧明媚，鸟语依旧悦耳，可谁听得见，茧儿内阴暗的空间里毛毛虫挣脱束缚的声音！

终于，茧破了一个小洞，是毛毛虫用尽力气咬开的。它歇了一会儿，用眼睛通过这个小洞好奇地打量外面的世界，它突然意识到，外面的世界是多么美好！它的心中萌生了一个想法：到外面去！到外面去！看清世界的每个角落！

它又开始了努力，全身每一寸的力量都集中在头部，用力向外顶呀！全身的每一只脚紧紧地扒住茧的内壁，用头撞，用牙齿咬，所有的一切办法都用尽！茧又开了，比原来的洞儿大了许多。毛毛虫将头伸了出去。阳光仿佛是一把利剑穿透了茧的阴暗，一束束光亮射进了毛毛虫的心灵，它的全身又充满了力量！

它把头缩回去，在破洞的边缘又开始了疯狂的厮咬，慢慢地，这个洞可以伸出它的脚了。它将腿伸了出去，令它惊异的是，它的腿已不是紧贴在身上的腿了，而是变成了细细的，常常的腿了。身体的变化它一切都不知道。它用它的腿紧紧地攀住茧儿外表的缝隙，身体借助腿的力量一寸一寸地向外面钻、顶，茧破洞的边缘像一把把匕首在撕扯着它柔软的身躯，它毫不畏惧，忍着疼痛继续用力……第二对腿出来了……第三对腿出来了……全身都出来了。

当毛毛虫心里面怀着喜悦迈出了束缚它的茧时，身上的一件重物将它的身体压向一侧，这是一双翅膀，毛毛虫已经变成了蝴蝶！在一番刻骨铭心的挣扎历练之后，一只毛毛虫获得新生，成就历练之美！
