Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

我梦想的职业 My Dreaming Career

In the past two years， my parents took me to travel to many places， including big cities， small towns， famous mountians and so on。 Therefore， I like traveling and I hope I can visit to many more places。 Since then， I hope I can be a tour guide in the future， so I can travel to many tourist attractions。 Besides， I can meet various people and I think municating with different people is interesting， wchich can broaden my field of vision。 I hope they can share their life stories with me so that I can know the general life of a place。 I know it would be a challenging job， but I believe I can do well in my job。

在过去的两年里，我父母带我到很多地方旅游，包括大城市，小城镇，著名的大山等等。因此，我喜欢旅游，我期望能够参观更多地方。从那开始，我就期望我将来能够成为一名导游，这样我就能够到很多旅游景点旅游了。此外，我能够认识各种各样的人，我认为和不一样的人沟通很搞笑，能够开阔我的视野。我期望他们能够和我分享他们的生活故事，这样我就能够了解一个地方的普通生活。我明白这是一份具有挑战性的工作，但是我相信我能够在工作中表现得很好。

When I was alittle child, I had many dreams. I wanted to be rich, so that I can live in abig and beautiful house. I can go everywhere  car. But now, my dream seems tobe better and more realistic. I hope I can have a good job. It will not takemuch of my time, although I can’t earn much. Every year, I have holidays totravel. Traveling is my favorite and it can reduce my pressure. 一次新的体验 A new experience

Yesterday I did commonweal in library to earn my public service

scores(which is similar to the compulsory credits).I arrived library at 8’clock

in the morning,a librarian let me to wipe the mirror in every toilet from one to

six floor.Then I started to wipe the mirrors.It was been two hours after I

finished all work.I was very tired,but looking at the shiny and clean mirrors I

had wiped, I felt very happy.To be honest,I had never done the things like it at

home,so it was a new experience to me,and it make me realize the hard work of my

parent.

昨天，我在图书馆做公益去获取公益实数(类似于学分)。我早上8点到达图书馆，一个图书馆管理员让我去擦一楼到六楼的厕所里的镜子。然后

就开始擦镜子了。等我完成了所有的工作，已经过去两个小时了。我非常地累，但是看着被我擦得干净闪亮的镜子，我感到很开心。说实话，我在家里从来没有做过像这样的事情，所以，这对我来说是一次新的体验，这也让我体会到了父母的艰辛。

班主任刘老师抑制不住自己的感情，用略带颤抖的声音说：“你们就要毕业了，就要离开母校了······”。是啊，就要毕业了!转眼间我的小学生活就要结束了，我也由一个懵懂幼童成长为一名 翩翩少年，回味六年来的经历，可谓酸、甜、苦、辣味味俱全，其间，有许多许多回忆值得我珍惜和回味。

记得我刚入学时，大多数同学都不认识，起初连名字都记混了。有一次眼看上学就要迟到了，我急急忙忙往教学楼里跑，也没顾的看清门上的牌子，推门就往里闯，等进了教室门一看就傻眼了，老师、 同学都是陌生的面孔······同学们用异样的目光看着我，我立刻跑出了教室，那个尴尬劲儿今天还记忆犹新。这件事也成了我小学生活中一个既尴尬有美好的回忆。

从aoe到声情并茂的散文，刘老师带领我在语文的天地里遨游，采撷智慧的花朵，品赏文化的芳香。可有一件事至今令我难忘，有一次，老师考生词我竟然得了76分，上体育课时，老师把我叫到办公室， 语重心长地对我说：“袁鹤宁，你生词怎么考的那么差?不是叫你每天考一考吗?你这样，高考写作文一个字0、5分，怎么办······”经过老师的耐心教育，我明白了生字的重要性，也懂得了老 师的良苦用心，从那儿以后，我学生词更用心了。

不知不觉中我的小学生活就要结束了，我就要告别我朝夕相处的老师、同学和熟悉的母校，去开始另一种全新的生活了，心里有说不出的依恋与不舍。再见了，母校!再见了，老师、同学们!再见了， 那永远不能让我忘怀的六年级小学生活!

时间如流水，一去不复返。转眼间，幸福快乐的小学生活就要结束了，记得刚进入小学的校门时，我们还都是一些是非不分，整天这逛逛，那走走，反正就是不老实，不安分，最后还是在老师们的悉心调教下，才变得不惹事，爱学习，尊重师长，孝敬父母的好孩子，好学生。所以，我们要感谢老师、感谢学校，是老师、学校培养了我们。

不要认为写作业是一件很费劲、很烦心而又很没用的事，考试的题目都是与作业类似的，你只有把做作业当成考试那么认真，那你考试的时候才能像写作业那么轻松自在。再说了，你写作业才不过是一份而已，而老师却要看一个班的作业，现在你想想写作业还是一件很枯燥无味的事情吗？有一次，我回到学校里拿东西，那时已经六点多了，路过老师办公室的时候，发现老师办公室里还亮着灯，还在认真仔细地批改着我们的作业，所以，我们不要因为写作业而烦心，因为，老师比我们的“作业”还要多，如果老师批评了你，而对老师感到反感，那么，你就大错而特错了，因为老师是为了你的学习着急而批评你，不要“狗咬吕洞宾，不识好人心”了，我们要感谢老师。

同学们，让我们在最后的一学期里加油、努力，给老师留下一个美好而又深刻的印象，给自己小学生活画上一个圆满的句号。

六年的光阴要过去了，日出日落，时间总是在你不经意的时候与你擦肩而过。翻开陈旧的时间目录，回忆过去——

你们还记得吗？一年级的时候，刚踏进教室门口看到一张张陌生的面孔，硬要跟着母亲屁股后面。个个同学都手拉手跳着、跑着一起去做操。

你们还记得吗？运动场上同学们挥汗如雨，最后还是输了，同学们拖着疲惫的身体，有些同学还留下了眼泪。同学们的口号不仅回荡在了教室里，还深深的留在了我们心上。

你们还记得吗？大概在五年级时，我们班还分成了两派，一边是女生，一边是男生。无论做什么都在激烈地对战，也不想一年级那样手拉手了，还把女生叫做什么什么灭绝师太，真是不可理喻！长大以后看到小时候这么幼稚的做法，一定会捧腹大笑吧！

你们还记得吗？几年后的我们已经从小不点儿变成大孩子了，也变得懂事了。当班上哪个同学受伤以后，几十双同情的目光就向他投来了……

六年就要过去了，我真想大哭一场，把六年中的酸甜苦辣、喜怒哀乐哭出来。不论以后我身在何方，我都会回忆这六年的时光……
