I’m a student of Huayang No. 1 Middle School. In front of our school gate is a street, on both sides of which are many shops and restaurants. Every day during rush hour, especially at noon, stalls selling everyday goods and food appear on the street, which makes it terriblycrowded. It was very difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any modern machines. All the work was done by hand. Thousands of men died and were buried under the wall they built. The Great Wall was made not only of stone and earth, but of the flesh and blood of millions of men.

The Lunar New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring . Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means year , was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.

One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. To Nian he said, I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents? So, it did swallow many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harassed people and their domestic animals from time to time.

After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year s end to scare away Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.

From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term Guo Nian , which may mean Survive the Nian becomes today Celebrate the Year as the word guo in Chinese having both the meaning of pass-over and observe . The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the excitement of the celebratio

We know that some of our students do not like eating lunch at school because the food isnt delicious. So they often go out of school to buy something they like to eat. But Im afraid its bad for their health to eat lunch outside because some of the food they buy isnt healthy enough.

In my opinion, if our schools want more students to be back and enjoy lunch inside, they should make the food more delicious, and also they should offer our students a larger choice of food as well.

我们知道，有些学生不喜欢在学校吃午饭，因为食物不好吃。所以他们经常去学校买他们喜欢吃的东西。但我担心他们的健康不好吃午饭外面，因为他们买的一些食物不够健康。

在我看来，如果我们的学校希望更多的学生回来享受午餐，他们应该使食物更美味，而且还应该提供我们的学生一个更大的选择的食物。

Winter vacation, many happy thing happened, a lot of interesting things happened, many unforgettable things have happened... I today is a thought-provoking thing.

That day, the weather is very cold, snow flied in the sky, spread a thick layer of snow on the ground like a blanket, the whole white world, my mother and I enjoyed very high, ready to go out to play through the snow. I turned to mother said: "why are they so mean to the old man? Dont they themselves will not old?" Mother didnt answer my question, just let out a sigh, we went away. On the way, Im ripping mad.

"Why cant you give a little love, the in the mind a little more tolerant, more loving? If everyone a little more love, the society will be even more full of warm, isnt it?

寒假里，发生过许多愉快的事，也发生过许多有趣的事，还发生过许多难忘的事……我今天讲述的是一件令人深思的事情。

那天，天气很冷，空中飘着鹅毛大雪，地上像是铺了一层厚厚的雪毯，整个一片雪白的世界，我和妈妈却兴致很高，准备上街去踏雪游玩。走到十字街路口处，我看见有一大群人在围观，就急忙跑过去，想看看究竟是发生了什么事情。

原来是一位老爷爷在街口卖白菜。看他那么大的年纪了，还艰难地挑着两筐绿油油的白菜卖，好可怜哟!我看见白菜上还覆盖着一层白雪呢!他挑着白菜，被三位不知是工商局还是城管局的叔叔发现了，大声吼他，还又推又撞，命令他马上离开，不要随地乱卖菜，这样影响了交通秩序。

我转过身对妈妈说：“他们为什么要对老人这么凶?难道他们自己就不会老?”妈妈没有正面回答我的问题，只是叹了口气，我们就走了。路上，我的心情久久不能平静。

”为什么大家不能都献出一点爱，心里多一些宽容，多一些爱心呢?如果人人都多一些爱心的话，这个社会不是会更加充满温馨吗?

When I was very small, I lived in my hometown. My grandparents raised two

dogs, and I liked them very much. I watched them grow up from the little animals

to the big dogs. Every time when I leaved home for school, they would follow me

for some distance. When I walked a little far away, they would turn home. When I

went home after school, they would wait for me in the door and swayed their

tails. I knew they were welcoming me home. They were like my family members and

I learned that animals are part of our nature. We should protect them. We can

create a harmonious society.

what s your plan for dragon boat festival?

As a chinese, I was really ashamed of having a little knowledge of dragon boat festival. Perhaps I was born in northern city, though my city is nearby sea, it has been built a U port which I can only see cargo ships and can t see the sweeping ocean. So I have never see the dragon boat contest since I was born. So the dragon boat festival is just a holiday for eating Zong Zi . My mother made Zong Zi when I was a child. Because there was no supermarket, we couldn t buy finished product from market. However, now, we can buy anything in supermarket, so my mother didn t make them anymore. The boat festival began to fade out my mind.

In reality, young people began to have a bug to celebrate foreign festivals, such as Christams, Saint Valentine s day, April Fool s Day, some people also celebrate Easter in church. Talk about Dragon boat festival, it s the same as some foreign conventional festivals, such as Witch s Day in Czech. People burned the witch s puppet so as to welcome spring. Some people are willing to celebrate foreign festivals because they like alien culture. And vice versa, foreigners who like China also concern about Chinese traditional culture.

After new holiday regulation, we have three holidays during the dragon boat festival. So many people will choose this time to travel. People who lived in Xiamen are able to visit Xiapu or Wu Yi mountain, these tourist attractions are in Fujian province,which is suit a short tirp. but I d like to stay at home for my decorate painting. I decide to draw two canvases about Christmas, it s really a big project. Then I ll hang them on the new house wall. I must start it now, or I can t finish them before Christmas eve. But I preceive it s a little difficult to draw them in such a hot season.
