Summer can be very hot in southernxx where the temperature usually goes up to 32"C or more. Because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. Also because of this I stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky. Actually I like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. In the summer vacation that has just ended I went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. This summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. As a second-year senior student I had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. In other words, I must find time to study, too. So I divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.

I spent this summer vacation in quite a different way. I used to run about every day in previous summer vacations, but this summer vacation I simply could not afford to do so. There are five classroom buildings and five dining-halls on the campus. The classrooms are big and bright. And each of them is large enough for sixty students to study in. Behind the main classroom building stands the college library, where both the teachers and students are busy borrowing and returning books every day. I usually go there once a week for borrowing and returning books. Our college life is rich and interesting. On the one hand, we have many experienced teachers, sufficient books, scientific apparatus, and instruments to help our studies. On the other hand, we are encouraged to take part in many college activities such as seminars, parties,talks, sportsmeets, visiting factories, etc. Basketball and volleyball matches are held almost weekly.

depending on personal experience, personality type and emotional concern, we find that some people hold the idea of living in the country, while others prefer living in the city. in my opinion, i prefer the city life, though it has advantages and disadvantages.

first of all, city life is very colorful. city is the center of the surrounding area. so, it is also the most booming place having the best things. there are many great things and wonderful activities in the city, while there isn’t in the country. for example, there are kfc, wonderful shopping mall, delicious food from various places, dancing club, different kinds of activities and so on. we can also learn the culture from all the countries. despite city life is so wonderful, it still has many disadvantages. nowadays, with the improvement of people’s living standard, people have more cars and more people come to city, and then the city becomes more and more crowd. as a result, traffic jam emerges, which makes great inconvenience for people to go out. what’s worse, the air pollution becomes serious day by day, which is bad for people’s health.

to sum up, every coin has two sides. living in the city also has good side and bad aspect. whether like living in city or not depends on individual thinking. as myself, i like living in city though i know the disadvantage of living in city.
