Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in

Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University.

After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in

Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a

two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist

entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37

patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital

and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and

advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the

acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field

unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would

therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH

as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study

in Britain for two years.

自从我懂事起，就明白父母的不容易和辛苦。我从小到大没令您少操心，有时还和你怄气，但您有时候说的话太过了，让我伤心痛觉。我也嫌你唠叨，每次我犯了错误您的五官就皱成一团，对我大声嚷嚷，我的眼前仿佛下起了小雨，看不清楚窗外的景色，最终结果是左耳进右耳出。我心里常常想，像一头怒吼的狮子气氛的对你说：“我对您感到很不满。”但话到嘴边又咽下的是因为那件事。

那天，我头晕晕的，老是干呕，感到一阵恶心。您摸了一下我额头，又量了量体温“啊”!您惊讶的说，原来发烧了。您对我说：“没事，吃点药过一会儿就好了。”我怕您担心就用一种不紧不慢的口气说：“嗯”!但我内心“怦、怦、怦”的直跳。您沧桑的脸上带着苦涩的笑，我明白：您心里很紧张，您的眼神出卖了您。我看到您的眼神里有一种慌乱。我疲惫的眼睛越来越模糊，只隐约看到一个瘦小的身影在忙碌，一会冲药、一会盖被子、一会摸下我的额头和我聊下天，平时悠闲的您做起事来井井有条。

您眼神中带着几分憔悴，让我干枯许久的眼睛有点湿润，伴着您的话语，看着您瘦小的身影我慢慢进入梦乡……醒来后，我又看到亲切的您。您那份爱灌注的阳光花插在了我的心田，久久不能忘了那份浓浓的爱，我坚信那朵阳光花结出爱的海洋，任我飞翔、遨游。

We are planning to visit the Nursing Home to celebrate the special day,

and we wound like to invite students from your school to join us.

我们计划数个活动We have planned several activities . When we get there , we will

visit the elderly in their rooms in groups, 向他们送花和自制的卡片，为了表达我们的尊敬和热爱。presenting

them with flowers and self--?made cards to show our respect and love. Then we

will do some cleaning and washing for them with the help of the nurses.

As some old people feel lonely .We may chat with them about their old days,

changes of our city, or anything they are interested in

We may also give them some performances, such as singing, dancing and so

on.

Youth Day (青年节) in the Peoples Republic of China is on May 4. It was

May Fourth Movement

Chinese intellectual revolution and sociopolitical reform movement (1917 –

21)。 In 1915 young intellectuals inspired by Chen Duxiu began agitating for the

reform and strengthening of Chinese society through acceptance of Western

science, democracy, and schools of thought, one objective being to make China

strong enough to resist Western imperialism. On May 4, 1919, reformist zeal

found focus in a protest by Beijings students against the Versailles Peace

Conferences decision to transfer former German concessions in China to Japan.

After more than a month of demonstrations, strikes, and boycotts of Japanese

goods, the government gave way and refused to sign the peace treaty with

Germany. The movement spurred the successful reorganization of the Nationalist

Party and gave birth to the Chinese Communist Party. See also Treaty of
