Because we need animals， and because once they are gone， there will never be any more。Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting.They are more than just a source of food.Every animal has its place in the balance of nature.Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.For example， when farmers killed large numbers of hawks， the farmers stores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice.Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice， with no hawks to keep down their numbers， the rats and mice multiplied quickly。

Luckily， some people are working to help save the animals.Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem.And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.Quite a few countries have passed laws.These laws forbid the killing of any animal or planton the danger list.Slowly， the number of some animals in danger is growing。

老虎是生活在食物链顶端的一种动物，它关系到整个生物链的平衡。因此，保护老虎不单单是保护老虎这么一个物种的问题，而是保护整个食物链完整性的问题。

目前分布于我国的四个老虎亚种（东北虎、华南虎、孟加拉虎和印支虎）中，惟有华南虎是中国独有的。19世纪以前，华南虎曾经广泛分布于以我国东南部为主的国内广大地区。20世纪后，由于自然环境变迁、战乱纷扰及人类活动影响等多方面的原因，华南虎的分布区域不断受到挤压，分布地域面积逐渐缩校直至上个世纪80年代以前，由于捕猎和砍伐森林等活动，使华南虎赖以生存的栖息地受到破坏，华南虎的数量急剧减少。

据以往调查估算，目前中国处于野生状态的华南虎仅有20至30只，养殖在中国动物园里的数量也仅有60只，这仪数量比大熊猫还要稀少。在最近的一次野外考察中，甚至没有发现活的野生华南虎个体，华南虎已接近物种灭绝的边缘。

国家林业局全国野生动植物研究与发展中心的副研究员陆军介绍说，由于动物园中的数量有限，用于交配的华南虎之间的血缘关系越来越亲近，目前有的新产虎崽已经开始出现短尾（尾巴短一结）的现象。毫无疑问，如果任由这一趋势发展下去，在不久的将来，这一世界最濒危动物将不复存在。

透过虎类这一典型的例子，我们更应该保护动物，从自己做起，从他人做起，从身边的小事做起。让我们行动起来保护野生动物，共建和平家园世界将变得更美好。

人类是生存在这个地球上的生命物种之一，我们在爱自己同类的同时，也应该尊重其他生命，善意对待和爱护我们身边的小动物。

动物是人类的朋友，是自然生态系统的重要组成部分，是大自然赋予人类的宝贵自然资源。我国是一个动物资源非常丰富的国家，但是由于生态环境的恶化、动物栖息地的人为破坏，致使我国动物的数量、分布范围正日益缩小，许多种类已处于濒临灭绝的状态。

为此，我们倡议：加大《中华人民共和国野生动物保护法》的普法力度，媒体和社会各有关部门，要进一步加强对保护野生动物的普法、宣传教育工作.有关部门认真履行职责，相互配合，坚决打击非法盗猎、非法运输、非法经营野生动物的违法行为。
