Last week, I took part in an English speech contest which was held by our teachers. There were twelve students in the final contest. I was one of them.

Fifteen minutes before my turn, I picked my topic and prepared for it. I wrote down the outlines and organized what I was going to say. However, when I stood in front of all judges and students, I was extremely nervous. My mind was totally empty.

Then I took a deep breath to relax myself and started my speech. The result was not as good as I expected, but I preferred to regard it as a challenge to myself, whose process was the most important for me. I can learn a lot from this contest. I am sure I will be better next time.

The International Childrens Day (ICD) is celebrated in numerous countries, usually (but not always) on June 1 each year.

The ICD had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. It is not clear as to why June 1 was chosen as the ICD: one theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva.

June 1 has since been observed as the ICD by numerous countries, especially by Communist countries; in the Western world the ICD is usually celebrated on other days of the year (if at all)， and there is often little public awareness about these celebrations. (See the section on Germany below for further discussions.) Consequently there is sometimes a misperception that June 1 as the ICD was a Communist invention. Nonetheless, in recent years even some groups within the United States started observing the ICD on June 1.

今天早上，妈妈带着我赶往了英语风采大赛的比赛处。

是这样的，一个月前高老师让我和几个小伙伴一起去参加星光英语举办的一次比赛。

签到后，我一直非常紧张，因为我怕我会背错，或把歌唱走调。是妈妈一直陪着我，并对我说：“你是最棒的，不需要紧张，你一定会成功的。”我还看见了我的好朋友和周老师，她们都对着我微笑。这是对我多大的鼓励和支持啊!表演结束后评委老师对我说：“你的表现还不错。”这让我兴奋不已。

老师们，同学们，谢谢你们的支持。更要谢谢我的老妈，因为您辅导我写了自我介绍，一直陪着我练习。

It was sunny today. I was excited. I got up at a quarter to seven.

I made a appointment to meet at nine o’clock. After I had my breakfast, I went to the Wanjia Market . It was hot outside. When I arrived, my friends didn’t arrive. I waited for him in front of the KFC’s door.

I haven’t seen them for a year. And in a year, we didn’t come into contact with others frequently. About ten minutes left, my friends arrived one by one. After we greeted,we went to play basketball in Liwan Gymnasium. The match last for tow hours.Oh!I fill very happy today!

今天就是英语外研比赛的日子了，我被安排在下午2.30那场，老妈的单位离考场比较近，上午我便跟她去单位值班。

我在老妈的办公室里，一直都在背稿，时间过得很快，稿纸在我的手中不停地抖动，说好的不紧张呢?

简单吃了点饭，老妈看我这副状态，她提议说，咱们提前溜达着去吧，就当散散步。

午后的街道有些冷清，看到不错的景致，老妈竟不忘给我拍张照片啥的，她可真有兴致。不觉中就来到了“宝睿国际未来小学”门口，我们是下午考生中来得最早的。

等了好久一些家长才陪着孩子到来，有接待老师把我们安排在家长等候区，并给选手们讲了些注意事项，接着老师又读了考场名单，我被安排在第三考场。

这是初赛，演讲的内容是自我介绍加才艺表演。我看到有的选手准备得真棒!不光自己化了淡妆，还梳了很复杂很漂亮的辫子，有的还穿了美丽的裙子。有不少同学手里拿了画板，上面是他们精心绘制的图画，他们边指着自己的画边小声念着英语，看来他们的才艺表演一定是用英语介绍自己的画了。而我的才艺显得多么的微不足道，我只打算读一首英文小诗。

上午考完的同学在群里发来信息，他们说很简单，评委主要看你的口语能力，觉得背不好的，也可以直接读，我终于有了一些安心。

马上就轮到我了，听到老师念我名字，稿子在我手中抖的更厉害了。原来考场里只有三位评委老师，但其中有一位外国人。我的心开始咚咚跳个不停，手心也开始冒汗。我刚说一句“Hello everyone.”，三位评委老师便微笑着向我点头示意。他们这一微笑，我反而不自在的很，我僵硬的站在他们面前，机械地象在用英文诵经一般，我甚至听到自己的声音就象一只大苍蝇在我周围嗡嗡着飞，它飞飞停停，停停飞飞，可恶极了。我发现三位评委老师都在低着头，记录着什么，也不知他们听清了这“嗡嗡”声没有。自我介绍环节很快就完了，我看没人看我，便拿出稿子，直接读那首“四季”的小诗。依然没人看我，平时读得一点问题都没有，此时竟卡了好几下，自己都觉得糟糕透顶。

三分钟终于结束了，我向三位评委鞠了躬说了“thank you”之后，心情才平静下来。

因为我是最后一场，所以，我来到家长区没多久，就有老师进来，当场宣布进入复赛的同学名单了。老师神采飞扬，声音洪亮，她说：“非常高兴地通知大家，祝贺以下进入复赛的同学，读到名字的同学也请家长一起上台!”

接着老师便念“张三，李四”，没有我的名字!

我沮丧极了，连为大家鼓掌的力气都没有了。

也许从我站到台上的那一刻就被评委老师“秒杀”掉了。老妈反倒安慰我说：“你在这里登过台，已经很棒了。但一定记住，台上一分钟，台下十年功啊。”

是的，通过参加这次比赛，我也找到了自己努力的方向。

路过一家烘焙店，我说：“老妈，给我买点吃的吧，我要化悲痛为力量!”

放暑假了，我可丝毫没有放松自己的学习，报名参加了“湖北省第十二届青少年儿童英语比赛”。这个赛事对我可不陌生，在我上幼儿园时就参加过两届。虽然当时在幼儿组，我获得过一等奖的好成绩，但现在，我是小学生了，比赛的要求更高，增加了听力测试，我还能行我去参赛为此，我参加了短期赛前培训。

刚开始针对听力题，我就像丈二的和尚--摸不清头脑。我去参赛在老师的指导下，我带着问题去听、注意重点词汇，难关总算被我迈了过去。我去参赛朗读短文部分，通过老师的讲解，每堂课后，我都能将小短文熟记于心。我去参赛可是，我总也改不掉语速快，缺乏感情的坏毛病。我去参赛

小学组的比赛安排在烈日炎炎的下午。我去参赛在路上，树上的知了“吱吱”地叫着，仿佛在为我加油。考场外，选手们个个斗志昂扬，我是既紧张又兴奋。一进考场，迎面扑来的冷气令我头脑更加清醒。首先是听力测试，伴随着纯正的发音，和着同学们“沙沙”的答题声，构成了一首美妙的乐章。我去参赛口语测试时，我扬长避短，顺利地完成了我的考试。我去参赛
