Xian was called Changan in Han Dynasty. The connotation of "Changan" is "a place of permanent peace". It was not until the prosperous Tang Dynasty that Changan became famous both at home and abroad as the largest and busiest international metropolis of that age in the world. Xian is the capital of Shaanxi Province and also the political, economic and cultural center of the Northwest China. With the development of travel industry and the implementation of the open policy, it has become one of the nations key tourist cities and tourism has become the mainstay in Shaanxis economy.

Xian lies at longitude 103? east by latitude 34?north, and 412 meters above sea level. It has an average annual temperature of 13癈, and an average annual precipitation of 604 mm. The rainy season comes in July, August and September. The city now has under its jurisdiction eight districts -- Xincheng, Beilin, Lianhu, Yanta, Weiyang, Baqiao, Lintong and Yangling, and five counties -- Changan, Lantian, Huxian, Zhouzhi and Gaoling. As a whole, Xian covers an area of 9,983 square kilometers and has population of 5,860,000. The city proper occupies an area 861 square kilometers, and reaches a population of 2,650,000.

With an elevation of 500 metres, the Weihe Plain extends between Baoji in the west and Tongguan in the east and borders the Qinling Mountains in the south and the Huangtu Plateau in the north. Lying in the warm zone, the plain has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Chequered with the Weihe, Jinghe, Luohe, and Bahe rivers as well as the Jinghui, Weihui and Luohui canals, the fertile land on the plain has easy access to irrigation facilities and an abundant yield of farm produce. when i woke up, (or got out of the darkness, if i wasn’t truly sleeping) i was standing in an elegant stony hallway. it seemed to stretch on forever. the hall was only slightly illuminated by torches, glowing (of all things) green. i started tiptoeing down the hall, for how long, i do not know. i only remember the sense of terror, which kept growing with each and every step i take. at last, i reached a dilapidated wooden door with an iron handle. i could smell an enchantment in the air. something was there. something ancient and evil. i could tell… … you know how some people say they have butterflies in their stomachs when they’re scared? well, i had killer bees.

我的挚友

我最好的朋友是我的同学李艳。她有一双大眼睛，长头发梳成了辫子。脸上时常有甜甜的微笑，使她显得更加活泼。

李艳很聪明，学习很好，两次获得学校的奖学金，她是我学习上的榜样。她告诉我说我们应该充分利用时间。

李艳很热心，乐于助人，班里同学学习上有困难，都喜欢找她带忙。但她不喜欢别人夸奖她，因为她认为她做的很普通。

我为拥有这样的好朋友而感到骄傲。

My Sister goes to Taipei First Municipal Girls High School and is in her second year there. This is the best girl high school in the city, and My sister is a very good student. My sister likes Sports. And now she is a member of the school track team. The regular schoolwork and the sports keep my sister very busy and yet very happy. She hopes to be able to go to college when she graduates. She enjoys English which they have nine sessions of one hours class every week she hopes to major in English in the future. Usually she goes to school at six in the morning and in the afternoon she comes home at six, too. After dinner she usually studies until ten oclock or so and then goes to bed. On Saturday afternoons she spends her time at the school track. I think I have a very good sister; she also likes to smile often.

HuangMei is  my  hometown. It is  in  the  East  in  HuBei.It is East  on  the  city  named  AnQing  of   AnHui.And it is  south to   the  city  named  JiuJiang  of  JiangXi. It  is  a    great city  in  my  heart.It  has  a long  history for about  1800 years  in  China .Example .The  temple  named  SiZu  and  WuZu were   in  HuangMei for a  long  years-old.Today,Every  year  many   visitor  come  different part  to  there.As  a  daughter  from Huangmei.I  leaved it away  for  about  seven  years. But  I miss it everyday .Even  in  a lot of  my  dream  in  the  night  .I belive HuangMei will  be  richer and  richer .The  new  year  2009  will going .Tonight  I  hope  everything  will  be  well  in  my  new 26  years-old.All  my friends  will be  well.I  must  work  hard in   the new  year.I will be ain growth as  my  hometown .

中文：我的故乡在黄梅.黄梅位于湖北省的东部，它东接安徽省安庆府，南邻江西省九江市.在我心中，它是一座伟大的县城.它在中国史上约有1800余年的历史，像闻名遐迩的四祖寺，五祖寺在黄梅有很长时间的历史了.每年，都有来自不同地域的许多游客去那.我自离开故乡已是七载余，但是我却每天思念故乡，以致在梦里都是如此.作为从黄梅走出来的女儿，我坚信我的故乡会越来越富饶.新的2009就要来临，今晚我祝福新的一年将万事顺利，我所有的朋友都好.在新的26岁年轮里，我必须努力工作，我会像我的家乡一样成长.

My hometown, which is in the south of × Province, is a very beautiful village. It lies on the east bank of a small river, surrounded by green mountains, In the past my hometown was poor, and people led a hard life. They couldnt afford to send their children to school. But ,great changes have taken place in my hometown in the past twenty years. Many families .have not only color TV sets, but also telephones, fridges, computers, and so on. New roads, houses, schools, hospitals have been built. People in my hometown are working hard for a better life.

我的家乡在××南部，是一个非常漂亮的村庄，它位于一条小河的东岸，为绿色的大山所环抱。过去，我的家乡很穷，人们过着艰难的生活，孩子读不起书。但是在刚刚过去的二十年里，我的家乡发生了翻天覆地的变化口许多家庭不仅有了彩色电视机，而且电话、冰箱、电脑等应有尽有。新修了公路，新建了房屋、学校和医院。家乡人民正在为过上更好的生活而辛勤工作。

The first time I entered the campus as a freshman, I was deeply attracted by her cultural atmosphere and historical connotation. Fudan is a graceful lady who is accustomed to serenity but meanwhile each action of hers outpours her innermost tern perament. Apparently it is worth every effort to probe into her world for the sake of both physical and mental enrichment. Her humanistic spirit inspires me to care for everything around, even the most trivial one.

On the other hand, catching up with the times, Fudan is modern and smart. You see, the many age-old buildings here are actually great libraries and labs. Scientific and technological developrnent is easily smelt in the air,because she never lags behind the world.

Our university has first-level equipment and the most experienced teachers as well as the best students. My campus activities are rich and colorful.I consider it to be a honor that Ive got a chance to study here and I sincerely hope that we can live wonderful lives in our campus!
