有一天，我把一个有30厘米高，直径20厘米的白色大纸炮放在雪堆里，它的威力比小型手榴弹的还大，我用火机点燃了火线，然后我很快的跑进了屋里，1、2、3，轰的一声，好像大地都被震得颤动起来，我跑上去一看，雪堆上有一个很大的洞，比我想象得还要大。我们又把水雷往水里里一扔，很大一个水花一飞冲天，威力无边，把水面的冰都炸得飞了起来，水面上出现了壮观的景象，很多黑色的烟从水而起。

在老家过年真开心，我可以放炮，还可以率领很多童子军，我在老家的这几天玩得很开心。

Hello ！welcome to the special Chinese new years edition of discovering China. Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

春节是我最喜欢的一个节日之一，因为春节是多么的喜庆啊!

春节是个亲人团聚的节日，离家的亲人都不远千里回到父母身边。新年的前一夜叫除夕，是个团圆夜，家人要围坐在一起包饺子。饺子的作法是先和面，“和”字就是“合”;“饺”就是“交”。因为“合”与“交”都有相聚之意，所以团圆夜要包饺子。

除夕那天晚上，我们一大家子热热闹闹吃完了年夜饭，都围坐在电视机前，一边品尝瓜果，一边欣赏春节联欢晚会，盼望着新年的钟声快快敲响。当新年的钟声敲响的那一刻，我们欢呼雀跃，因为我们又长一岁了!这时窗外的鞭炮声此起彼伏，我和弟弟妹妹赶紧去跟爷爷奶奶、爸爸妈妈、叔叔婶婶拜年，祝他们新年快乐、万事如意、心想事成，他们高兴地给了我们压岁钱，祝我们健康成长、学习进步，我们快乐地蹦起来：“终于得到压岁钱啦!”家里的拜年声与窗外的鞭炮声汇成了一曲欢乐的歌。

得到压岁钱以后，我们跑下楼去看大家放鞭炮。爸爸把一串鞭炮拖到院子里，我们赶紧退后，捂起耳朵，爸爸在我们“快，快!”的叫声中点燃了鞭炮，一会儿，鞭炮就“噼里啪啦”地响起来，这是新一年的祝贺!啊!新年到了!!!

Tammy was in a bad mood. Her parents had insisted that she was too young for a cell phone，no matter how much she begged. “But Sun and Alicia have cell phone!” Tammy cried. “If I don’t get one, I won’t be popular.”

“Having a cell phone doesn’t make you popular,” Tammy’s dad said. He is always saying stuff like this, As if he knew what it was to be in fourth grade. “Besides,” Dad said, “your school doesn’t allow cell phones, and you can call your friends from the house as soon you finish your homework.”

“But I can’t send them text messages,” Tammy relied.

“You can use email,” Mom said. “Cell phone are expensive. we want you to wait until you can pay for part of the cost before you got one.”

“By that time I won’t need one,”Tammy said. “Nobody will know who I am. I might as well moved to a desert island!”

“In that case, I’ll get you some empty bottles and some paper,” Dad said. “Bottle messages are much cooler than text messages.”

“Ugh,” sighed Tammy.
