When I come to the middle school, I feel so excited, because I want to

learn more knowledge and prepare for my future. Some of my friends are afraid of

the coming challenges, they think they can’t handle, but for me, life will be

wonderful with all kinds of challenges. It is the challenges that makes me

stronger. If everything comes to me without hard working, then I won’t cherish

水平如镜的西湖，红叶似火的香山，峰峦雄伟的泰山我都一一游览过。但我却忽略了最美的地方——家乡。

我的家乡有漂亮安静的小树林，有有时恬静有时调皮的小溪流，还有那陪伴了我十年的桂花树。

“叽叽叽”是什么吵醒了我的美梦，原来是树林里的小鸟开始了它们交响曲。我也迈着轻盈的步伐踏上了去树林的小路。早上，已经起雾了，那白茫茫的晨雾犹如仙女掉下的纱巾布满了整条小路，也像一条白色丝带在缓缓移动。走进树林，第一眼就看见了那一排排像哨兵一样的松树，它们挺立着，不管严寒和酷暑，都像士兵守着这片树林。树上的小鸟唱得更欢了，婉转动听的歌曲在我耳边萦绕，使我不得不放慢了脚步。“叮咚叮咚”这又是什么声音？我加快了脚步向前奔去。

原来是一条小溪流啊。它看上去是多么得安静啊！它平静地流着，并不发出声响，从山头到山脚，远远地看去，它就像是一条柔柔的丝绸，轻轻地晃动。再加上边上鲜花的镶嵌，小溪就变得更美了，更柔了。小溪也时常会调皮，它有时会撞在石头上，溅起一朵朵小水花，打得边上的鲜花“啪啪”作响。溪中的小鱼也会跟着“起哄”使得小溪看起来更加“调皮”。

我家院子里有一棵老桂花树。一到春季，桂花树就长出了新芽，那一个个芽胞如同害羞的小孩不敢露脸。夏季不知不觉地来到时，桂花树就长满了“绿头发”，又如一把巨伞撑在院子里。秋姑娘迈着优美的舞步走来时，桂花树就开满了桂花。它们散发着淡淡的清香，优雅而纯洁。桂花们有的三五朵一群，有的聚在一起，还有的只是个花骨朵儿，即将要含苞欲放。冬季带着寒风匆匆地赶来，桂花树转眼就变成了一位光秃秃的老头，孤零零的，看上去可怜极了。

我的家乡不但景美，人情也很美。这里的人们互相帮助，热情待客，如果遇上了熟人，无论多么赶时间都得谈上两句。只要邻居家有困难，自己无论如何都要伸出援手。有外客来访，鸡鸭肉是必不可少的。这些暖暖的人情味，常受到别人的称赞。

Lanzhouis situated in the temperate zone and enjoys a semi-arid climate (Kppen BSk) with hot summers and very cold and dry winters. Mean annual rainfall is 315 millimetres (12.4 in), almost all of which falls from May to October. The winters are so dry that snow is extremely rare.

In regard to air pollution Lanzhou has some of the worst air quality of all cities in China. According to the Blacksmith Institute, Lanzhou is one of the 30 most polluted cities in the world, with its TSP (total suspended particle) rating 247% above that of the Gansu State recommendation. The air quality is so poor that at times one can not see Lanshan, the mountain rising straight up along the south side of the city. At one point, a controversial suggestion was put forward to bulldoze a mountain adjacent to the city, in order to let fresh air in to the bowl where Lanzhou is situated. It was suggested on the premise that the surrounding mountains block a free flow of air in the city. The city is located in a narrow river valley with an unfortunate curve causing it to be hemmed in with no free air flow.
