意大利人把通过“吃”来建构的社交生活看得极为重要,几乎不惜一切时间和金钱借聚众吃饭的机会推销自我,笼络人际关系。上到国家政要下到平民百姓,家事国事天下事轮番登场,没有中场休息。估计说话既费口舌又损耗脑细胞,食物补充也就不能间断了。意大利还有专门的慢餐馆,餐馆的墙上画了一只蜗牛,蜗牛的两只触角变成了一刀一叉,告诉人们吃饭要慢下来,慢慢品味。

意大利的慢生活不光体现在慢餐、慢行上,就连工作上也慢慢悠悠。我所在的办公楼搞装修,厕所也在被装修区域。我对意大利人装修“慢工出细活”的准则早有耳闻。一般中国人用一天时间就能干完的活儿,意大利人则要用一个星期。我想也许是意大利人更注重工程质量和美观程度吧,难怪意大利在文化古迹遗产保护和复原技术方面处于世界领先水平。办公楼数月没厕所用,倒是乐坏了楼里的员工。借方便之机,大家纷纷跑出办公楼到附近的酒吧喝咖啡,就算老板打来电话也有了理由。酒吧老板也高兴,甚至还多次请装修的小伙子喝免费咖啡,叫他再慢点儿装修。

“慢”是一种生活态度

意大利式的“慢”说白了是一种处世态度,无论处理工作还是生活中所有的事情似乎都像度假一样,没有时间和事情紧急程度的约束,随遇而安跟着感觉走。一次我同一位意大利同事被上级安排外出买东西。我们刚出了公司,同事先伸了个懒腰,眯着眼睛看了看暖暖的太阳,开始大赞天气多么好、太阳照在身上多么舒服等等,脚步也就自然地慢了下来。之后这位同事居然提议先去喝咖啡。慢慢地品完一杯咖啡,我们才向超市走去。买了东西付款时,没想到这位同事又跟收银员攀谈起来。正当我担心回去太迟要被责怪时,却发现身后等待付款的人因对同事和收银员之间的话题感兴趣,非但没有催促,反倒兴致勃勃地加入了攀谈。本来5分钟就能够办完的事情,我们却用了半个多小时。
