Cellular phones have had a major impact on our lives and the way that we

perform every day tasks. Many of these changes are apparent, while others we may

not even be aware of.

Cell phones have brought a whole new meaning to the term multitasking.

Twenty years ago, it was not possible to talk to the office while you were at

the grocery store picking up some necessary items. You could never have had a

three-way business conference while you were fixing dinner or been able to deal

with a business client from home while caring for a sick child. Cell phones have

enabled us to do various tasks all at the same time.

Cell phones have also enabled families to keep in closer touch with each

other. Children can contact you if they have missed their ride form soccer

permission to go somewhere, and with GPS features that are now available on some

suppose to be.

Many of these advantages we do not even notice. Have you ever arrived at

the grocery store and realized that you have forgotten your grocery list? The

first thing you would probably do is to call home and have one of your children

read the list off to you. In the same situation in past years, you may have

forgotten things or have had to drive all the way back home to get it. If your

car breaks down, you automatically call for help instead of having to walk to

find a pay phone. Cell phones have certainly made our lives much more

convenient.

Cell phones have also changed the way that people interact with each other.

When we call someone, we are actually calling the person and not a place. This

enables us to be more spontaneous when making plans as you rarely get a busy

signal and unlike a land line telephone, someone is always home. Cell phones

also enable us to call if we are going to be late for an appointment, although

this has led to cell phone users running late more often than those who do not

have cell phones. These users seem to have adopted the attitude that appointment

times are not concrete and use their cell phones to renegotiate their arrival

time.

One of the greatest disadvantages of the cellular phone is the fact that we

do not talk to strangers when traveling anymore. In the past, several people

waiting for a bus would engage in a conversation while they were waiting. People

who traveled the same routes every day might develop friendships along the way.

This situation does not happen anymore. Today when people are waiting for a bus,

The Spring Festival is a traditional festival for all Chinese people. On

that evening there is a very traditional ceremony----Spring Festival Gala, which

is the favorite for many people. It brings so much happiness to Chinese all

around the world .

When asked about their opinion on Spring Festival Gala, people always

reason differently. Some people deem that it should be cancelled, while there

are also other people who argue that it should be continued.

Some people take it for granted that the Gala should not exist because it

is too boring on the evening of the Lunar New Year. Besides, the form of the

Evening seems the same every year. In comparison, there are, however, a large

number of people who hold a different view concerning this issue, they insist

that the Gala must be continued. They argue that it is one of the most important

i never considered myself unique, but people are constantly telling me, "you are a miracle." to me, i was just an ordinary "guy" with realistic goals and big dreams. i was a 19-year-old student at the university of texas and well on my way toward fulfilling my "big dream" of one day becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

my hallucinations, coupled with my physical problems, made my prognosis still very bleak. however, as time passed my mind began to clear and approximately six weeks later my right leg began to move ever so slightly. within seven weeks my right arm slowly began to move and at eight weeks i uttered my first few words. my speech was extremely difficult and slow in the beginning, but at least it was a beginning. i was starting to look forward to each new day to see how far i would progress. but just as i thought my life was finally looking brighter i was tested by the hospital euro-psychologist. she explained to me that judging from my test results she believed that i should not focus on returning to college but that it would be better to set more "realistic goals."

upon hearing her evaluation i became furious for i thought, "who is she to tell me what i can or cannot do. she does not even know me. i am a very determined and stubborn person!" i believe it was at that very moment that i decided i would somehow, someday return to college.

it took me a long time and a lot of hard work but i finally returned to the university of texas in the fall of 1983 -- a year and a half after almost dying. the next few years in austin were very difficult for me, but i truly believe that in order to see beauty in life you have to experience some unpleasantness. maybe i have experienced too much unpleasantness, but i believe in living each day to the fullest, and doing the very best i can. and each new day was very busy and very full, for besides attending classes at the university i underwent therapy three to five days each week at brackenridge hospital. if this were not enough i flew to houston every other weekend to work with tom williams, a trainer and executive who had worked for many colleges and professional teams and also had helped many injured athletes, such as earl campbell and eric dickerson. through tom i learned: "nothing is impossible and never, never give up or quit."

early, during my therapy, my father kept repeating to me one of his favorite sayings. i have repeated it almost every day since being hurt: "mile by mile its a trial; yard by yard its hard; but inch by inch its a cinch."

i thought of those words, and i thought of tom, my family and sharon who believed so strongly in me as i climbed the steps to receive my diploma from the dean of liberal arts at the university of texas on that bright sunny afternoon in june of 1986. excitement and pride filled my heart as i heard the dean announce that i had graduated with "highest honors", been elected to phi beta kappa, and been chosen as one of 12 deans distinguished graduates out of 1600 in the college of liberal arts. the overwhelming emotions and feelings that i experienced at that very moment, when most of the audience gave me a standing ovation, i felt would never again be matched in my life-not even when i graduated with a masters degree in social work and not even when i became employed full time at the texas pain and stress center. but i was wrong!

on may 24, 1987, i realized that nothing could ever match the joy i felt as sharon and i were married. sharon, my high school sweetheart of nine years, had always stood by me, through good and bad times. to me, sharon is my miracle, my diamond in a world filled with problems, hurt, and pain. it was sharon who dropped out of school when i was hurt so that she could constantly be at my side. she never wavered or gave up on me. it was her faith and love that pulled me through so many dark days. while other nineteen year old girls were going to parties and enjoying life, sharon devoted her life to my recovery. that, to me, is the true definition of love. after our beautiful wedding i continued working part time at the pain center and completed my work for a masters degree. we were extremely happy, but even happier when we learned sharon was pregnant.

on july 11, 1990 at 12:15 a.m. sharon woke me with the news: "we need to go to the hospital… my water just broke." i couldnt help but think how ironic it was that my life almost ended in a convenience store and now on the date "7-11" we were about to bring a new life into this world. this time it was my turn to help sharon as she had helped me over those past years. she was in labor for 15 hours. at 3:10 p.m. sharon and i experienced the birth of our beautiful daughter, shawn elyse segal! tears of joy and happiness came to my eyes as our healthy, alert, wonderful daughter entered this world. we anxiously counted her 10 fingers and her 10 toes and watched her wide eyes take in the world about her. it was truly a beautiful picture that was etched in my mind forever as she lie in her mothers waiting arms, just minutes after her birth. at that moment i thanked god for blessing us with the greatest miracle of all-shawn elyse segal.

The air we breathe is so freely available that we take it for granted. Yet without it we could not survive more than a few minutes. For the most part, the same air is available to everyone, and everyone needs it. Some people use the air to sustain them while they sit around and feel sorry for themselves. Others breathe in the air and use the energy it provides to make a magnificent life for themselves.

Opportunity is the same way. It is everywhere. Opportunity is so freely available that we take it for granted. Yet opportunity alone is not enough to create success. Opportunity must be seized and acted upon in order to have value. So many people are so anxious to "get in" on a "ground floor opportunity", as if the opportunity will do all the work. Thats impossible.

Just as you need air to breathe, you need opportunity to succeed. It takes more than just breathing in the fresh air of opportunity, however. You must make use of that opportunity. Thats not up to the opportunity. Thats up to you. It doesnt matter what "floor" the opportunity is on. What matters is what you do with it.

Last autumn we took a trip to Qianshan by bus. It is about thirty miles from the city. We planned to put up in a hotel there in order to watch the sun rise the next morning.

As soon as we got there, we began to climb up the mountains. How great the sight is! We felt as if we had entered amother world full of beauty, peaeefulness and loveliness. There are hundreds of mountains, one after another. there are magnificent cliffs, one above another. We climbed up vigorously and breathed the fresh air greedily. As the sun was going down, we descended to a little hotel at the foot of the hill, where we had a big dinner, and then went to bed early so as to regain the energy ior the expedition next morning.

Before daybreak, we reached the peak of the highest mountain after a hard groping and climbing in the dark. Unaware of the cold wind, we stood motionlessly, with our eyes fixing at the hr end of the east. Suddenly thin ravs of red hue spread across the sky. As the redness deepened, some mysterious clouds moved across thc sky, dividing heaven from the earth. Just at this moment, up from the brightening far east rose the sun. It was so red and yet so tender that we could gaze at it with naked eyes. and a slight applause from us. the amazed spectators, rang through the peak. Up, up it rose, adding to itself strength and glory at every step. It dazzled with vigour, driving away darkness, cold, and misery from the earth, and bring light, warmth, and happiness to men.

We were completely amazed at the wonder and the greatness of nature. We jumped and shouted like innocent children and we bathed in the first rays of the sun with the peak till it was time for our return.

Books are our best friends. They are very dear to us because they give us a

lot of pleasure and sincerely advise us how to get alone in this world. And when

we come across difficulties, we often turn to them for help. Good books in need

are good friends indeed.

However, not all the books are worth reading. Some books contains violence

or sexual scenes are not good for people, especially teenagers to read. While

some books are too simple or too difficult, others are not interesting enough.

As time is quite limited, so it’s wise for all of us to choose to books that

suit for us to read.

So, it is important to make the wise use of books. We should read different

kinds of books. The books that give us knowledge which we can not learn in the

class, the books give us pleasures and the books which remain us do not forget

the past. What’s more ,we must try to apply to practice what we learn from

books.

Today, is my most lucky day. Just to the school, there is a feeling of excitement to squeeze into the chest. But there is a kind of worry, afraid the badly. I bring the transcript! When you come into our school, the students or the original sample, dozen dozen, the alarm, crazy. I quietly sat on a seat, waiting for their results. After a while, the teacher came. My heart will jump out. At the result, I was not satisfied with my performance. Because I score is only 286, certainly not. Clipping voting began, I sadly around, clip is too bad, I dont good-looking! I look around and find people more place to see others cut and paste. GeHongYan clip good good-looking! Recently, a professor of philosophy in the United States has written a book

called Money and the Meanlng of Life. He has discovered that how we deal with

money in our day-to-day life has more meaning than we usually think. One of the

exercises he asked his students to do is to keep a record of every penny they

spend for a week.From the way they spend their money, they can see what they

He says our relation with others often becomes clearly defined when money

enters the picture. You might have a wonderful friendship with somebody and you

think that you are very good friends. But you will know him only when you ask

him to lend you some money. If he does, it brings something to the relationship

that seems stronger than ever before. Or it can suddenly weaken the relationship

if he doesnt. This person may say that he has a certain feeling, but if it is

not carried out in the money world, there is something less real about it.

People just have an idea of making more and more money, but what is it for?

How much do I need for any given purposes in my life7 In his book, the professor

uncovered an important need in modern society: to bring back the idea that money

is an instrument rather than the end. Money plays an important role in the

material world, but expecting money to give happiness may be missing the meaning

of life.

Nowadays, people are busy with their work, they have less time to rest. Most people wake up early in the morning and then go to work all day. When they go home after work, they feel tired and sleep soon. People make themselves busy all the day, they have no time to enjoy life, now it is the time to take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you.

That was a morning in the early of June. I took a bus to my school in the suburb which was surrounded by rice paddies and ponds. The sky was gray with the gloomy clouds congregating gradually along the far eastern horizon. "There must be a heavy rain soon." I spoke to myself.

When I hurried into the classroom, the sky, gray before, was shrouded now by black clouds, darken to twilight, I felt quite stuffy, while it was quite calm, without wind. I saw the leaves of trees and grass static, which seem to await something tohappen. Several minutes later, I saw the lightening split the clouds and heard the thunders following. Suddenly, the curtain of rain fell and the wind blew. soon the grass flattened under the wind and the rain. With the rain forming like a fog, the sky became bright. I took several deep breathes. I felt comfortable.

The heavy rain lasted three hours and stopped when the class was over. The air was so fresh and the sky was so clear. I felt like a new man myself.
