The characteristics of formal writing

1.名词化趋势

I do not eat much.-->I am a light eater.

The clock on the desk reminds me of time.-->I put a clock on the desk as a reminder of time.

注意:名词化趋势的句子当然还有动词, 目的是尽量把表达句子中心意思的那个词汇用名词表达.符合英文的习惯.

2.无灵主语(区别于被动语态)

我们中文写作中,习惯以人做主语,而英文则相反,习惯以物做主格.

More and more young students studied further in the past two decades.

-->The past two decades witnessed a growing number of young students for further study.

Looking out of the window, you will have a nice view.

-->A glance out of the window offers you a nice view.

注意: 名词化趋势和无灵主语常常是相结合的.

3.被动语态

这一点大家比较熟悉,不详细讲.比如:

二、句式的写作:

Main features of English sentences:

1.长短句结合

Love is patient and kind. It is never jealous, boastful, proud or rude. It keeps no record of wrong that others do. It always protects, always fruits, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.

一般来讲,总结性的句子应当使用短句,而说理的句子应用长句.

2.并列复合句

这种句子属于十分难写的句子,也举一个例子:

He who wants to save his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for me will save it.

3.单一复合句

也就是我们常说的各种从句,不再举例.

三、Variety of sentences:

1. ”-ing & -ed” groups

5.主语从句

句子的变化还有 It is self-evident(adj) that…….和There be 这样的句子

6.倒装

(1)将一些否定性含义的副词和短语在句首,用倒装会使句子生色不少.

Never before has such a high standard been achieved.

Hardly had he arrived when she started complaining.

(2)为使描绘更加生动,与介词同形的副词可以移动到句首,而把主语放到谓语后面去.

Following the roar, out rushed a tiger from the bushes.

四、插入语

插入语可以是一个小词,也可以是一个同谓语的形式.

1.先看一个小技巧：(对there be 句型均有效)

通俗的讲,在老外眼里,主语与谓语离的越远,句子的档次越高.

2.插入语后面再接上一个定语从句;

Direct experience, a necessary means to recognize the world, which differs from knowledge acquired from books, is a major step to the cognitive world.

再看几个同谓语从句的例子:

6岁那年的夏天，我和伙伴们在树林中玩耍。好友朱突然脑洞大开，他指着一颗高大挺拔的树说：“我们来比赛，看谁先爬上去。”他的话一出，四周马上就一片安静，你看看我，我看看你，却没有人敢打破这宁静的气氛。我的内心在斗争着，不敢去面对，心里想：“等有一个人去了，我再去。”转念又想起了妈妈鼓励的话语：“天成，当你面对困难时，不能轻易放弃，要勇于前进！”我的心动摇了，激动起来，我再也不考虑结果了。于是，我壮起胆子，大声一吼：“我爬！”我的话语惊四座，他们都用一种惊讶的眼神看着我，面对他们的眼神，我心里顿时就没了底，后悔自己一时冲动的决定，但已经没有退路了。

我可是背负了小伙伴们的期望的啊，我只好硬着头皮上了。看着那么粗的树干，再望望高大的树冠，真的有点欲哭无泪，但一想起小伙伴们质疑的眼神，就决心要证明自己。我双手抱着树干，双脚一前一后地向上攀爬。忽然，一只青色的虫子爬出树洞，我紧张地看着它，心里喊到：“虫子啊虫子，你千万别来捣蛋！”可是，它非但不听，竟然爬上了我的手背，恶心地在我皮肤上蠕动着，我恐惧得都可以听见自己的心跳。

我心里真的有无尽的后怕，但又不能松开手臂，我只好闭住眼睛，不顾一切地大叫：“救命啊，救命啊！”在我不知道喊了多少遍救命后，一双大手把我抱了下来，我已经吓得满头大汗，腿都已经软了。其实那只是一只普通的小青虫，完全没有危险。可是因为我的胆小，害得我“身败名裂”，被小朋友们一直耻笑。

童年的趣事、糗事一箩筐，回想起来令人面红耳赤。但无论趣事还是糗事，都有我们一颗天真烂漫的童心，这样的记忆非但不可笑，还值得我们永远铭记在心。

童年就像蒲公英，风一吹，就越飘越远，不知去向。转眼间，我们也已经渐渐长大，对于过往也逐渐忘记，但有些事仍然会被风一吹，就飘扬四起，不经意间想起某个瞬间。

记得暑假的一个上午，我安安静静地在房间里写作业，突然，肚子竟然咕噜咕噜地叫了起来，我疑惑不解，心想:刚吃完早餐不久呢，怎么又饿了?没办法，我就跑到厨房里，看看有没有什么东西可以填饱肚子。就在我到处翻找吃的的时候，余光竟然无意中瞥见地上有一团黑乎乎的东西，我蹲下身仔细一看，原来是一群蚂蚁在运粮食，趁我肚子饿的时候盗窃我家的粮食，这不是成心气我吗?

我心里窝了一团火，正愁没地方发泄呢。你们这些蚂蚁今天是自投罗网，看我不把你们消灭的一干二净。这下我是不会放过你们的，居然敢来我家偷东西，非得让你们长点教训不可。

于是，我拿起勺子，接了一勺水，往地上一泼，蚂蚁就已经被冲的到处都是了，看着溃不成军的蚂蚁，我的心里甚是得意。然后，我又顺着他们搬运东西的线路找到了蚂蚁的老巢，接了满满一勺水，往洞里慢慢灌水，这下蚂蚁都吓得四处逃散，纷纷搬着食物出来了。

我心想：这都什么时候了，命悬一线之际，居然还想着吃，真是自不量力，不知道生命比什么都重要吗?一群不知好歹的家伙，今天要让你们瞧瞧我的厉害。只见一只只小蚂蚁排着队，扛着一些白色的东西落荒而逃。我目不转睛地盯着小蚂蚁，发现一个奇怪的地方，怎么每个食物都长得差不多，这不大现实吧。而且，它们把这个东西看的比自己的性命还重要，这到底是什么能让它们视死如归，于是便勾起了我的好奇心。

我跑进房间，上网搜了一下资料。原来，蚂蚁们搬的是还没出生的小蚂蚁，我顿时呆住了，小蚂蚁也是有血有肉的动物，它也懂得亲情的可贵，我竟然做出这样的事情，我低下头反思自己刚刚的做法，我竟然亲手毁了它们的家园，让它们无家可归。

再后来，我吸取了之前的教训，再也不会破坏蚂蚁们的生活了，它们井然有序地生活着，其乐融融，有时，我会安安静静看着它们，或者赏食物给它们吃。

Lu Xun is my favourite writer. He is one of the most famous writers in China. He wrote a lot of literary works.

He was thin and not tall. He always wore a long old coat in that time. At first, he wanted to be a doctor and save people s lives. So he learned medicine, but later he found the Chinese were in sensitive when they faced the oppression of their enemies. So he began to write articles to wake the people up.

Lu Xun wrote some famous novels, he attacked the social mores in that time, and in his works, many persons were known very well, such as Ah Q Kong Yi ji .

I like Lu Xun because I also want to be a great writer like him. I like reading and writing, and I often write some articles in my free time. Though I don t have good literary talent or a large vocabulary, I spend lots of time reading and writing to improve my writing skills.

Lu Xun is my hero, I will learn more from him. I believe I can be a great writer like him in the future.

When I first saw this movie I didnt appreciate it like I do now. Because I was so young that I didnt get the main idea when I first saw it. Just recently I saw the movie again. Forrest Gump, the innocent man can impact so many lives with his innocence. The meaning of the movie to me is that everyone needs to have a better outlook on life. How time flies! I have studied in my school for three years. And I will

graduate from middle school in a month. I am eager to share my happiness and

sadness with you. I had so many memories in three years’ life. One of them

impressed me very much. I still remember, when I began to learn English, I found

it too difficult. No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t do well in it and

almost gave it up. As soon as my English teacher found my problem, she had a

每个民族、每个国家都应该有自己的精神价值，有影响世界的精神性事件。而当今的中国产生不了具有世界影响的大哲学家、大诗人、大作曲家、大科学家等，最重要的原因是我们的文化传统的实用品格，对纯粹精神事业的不重视、不支持。所以，要改变这种现状，只有重视精神性事件。

重视精神性事件，就要有更多的人注重精神生活。随着社会的进步、科技的发展，越来越多的人重视物质的生活，反而忽视了精神生活。这使人与人之间的关系变得冷淡，例如，现今社会中屡屡发生的老人摔倒无人施救、公交车上因为抢座位而发生争执甚至厮打的现象。这种社会问题也使产生出历史性的文化伟人的概率下降。所以，注重精神生活就显得尤为重要。只有当越来越多的人重视精神上的生活，而不是仅仅停留在物质生活这一层面上，精神性事件才会被重视起来。

重视精神性事件，就需要有更多的学者追求学术上的独立。追求学术独立的学者要有着甘愿为此奉献一生的精神，周汝昌先生就是这样一位学者。他自幼聪慧，少年的时候就听母亲讲《红楼梦》。长大后，在胡适先生的引导下，他开始钻研《红楼梦》，并为此付出了一生的时间。他用56年的时间整理出一部接近曹雪芹原著的版本的《红楼梦》，被公认为中国红学泰斗。他是一位真正意义上的中国传统知识分子最值得骄傲的精神写照。然而，当今像周汝昌先生这样一个为追求学术而奉献一生的人在中国并没有多少。如果这样追求学术独立的中国学者越来越多的话，那么重视精神性事件将不再是纸上谈兵。

重视精神性事件，需要更多的人热爱全人类文化遗产。人类文化遗产是人类在历史长河中智慧和文明的结晶。现如今破坏人类文化遗产的事件时有发生，国家也相继宣布对那些破坏者的惩罚并加强打击的力度。但是这仅仅让国家来维护还是不够的。只有当更多的人热爱人类文化遗产，去保护它、不让它受到破坏时，才会对精神性事件起到帮助和支持的作用。当然，对于一些外来文化，我们要取其精华，弃其糟粕，文化既是民族的，也是世界的。这样吸收不同的文化才能更好更快的发展，精神性事件才会被更好的重视起来。
