Now, the new semester has begun for more than one week. I gradually adapt

to my new life in senior school. In senior school, my biggest feeling is busy,

for I have classes all the day and teachers leave us a lot of homework. In the

morning, I have two periods for morning reading, Chinese and English, beginning

from 7:00. After that, I have four periods in the morning and four other in the

afternoon. There are many more subjects than in middle school, Chinese, math,

A library is a building for a collection or books, magazines, periodicals

and newspapers. The books are kept on the shelves in the stack room whereas the

magazines, journals, etc. in the reading rooms. Modern libraries also have xerox

rooms, and computer rooms.

If you want to borrow books, you can go to the loan desk, look over the

correct call numbers in the card catalog and ask the librarian to take then, out

for you. Or youre allowed to enter the stack room to rind books for yourself,

you can look up the bound volume or index for the articles relative to the

subject, on which you are going to write thesis. If the library doesnt

subscribe to the magazine which carries the article you want, you can borrow the

magazine from other libraries by means of interlibrary loan service.

Dont forget to show your library card or I.D. card to the librarian before

you go into the reading room, where you can read magazines or newspapers. If you

find a good article and want to keep it, you can have it duplicated in the xerox

room. Besides, if you want to watch films or slides, you can ask the

projectionist to play the videotape for you in the audio visual room, where you

can also listen to language tapes and music tapes.

“上有天堂，下有苏杭”，你们去过杭州吗?你们知道杭州的风景名胜和最有名的西湖吗?今天我就带大家走进这人间天堂——西湖去欣赏一番。

西湖的湖水清澈见底，一阵阵微风吹过，湖面上漾起一道道鱼鳞似的涟漪。坐船荡漾在西湖上，放眼望，清晨尚未退去的薄雾在阳光的照耀下若隐若现群山被雾气笼罩着，雾像一个淘气的孩子。西湖上有三座名桥。一是断桥，二是长桥，三是孤龄桥，还有一座雷峰塔。在这里发生了一段有名的故事：传说中的“白蛇传”——许仙和白素贞相遇的地方就是这儿了。

这里的冬天最漂亮!在断桥上还有一处美景，叫断桥残雪。冬天为西湖添加了几分色彩!苏轼都被西湖的美景迷住了，他写了这首《饮湖上初晴后雨》来赞美西湖。其中“欲把西湖比西子，淡妆浓抹总相宜。”说的就是西湖。湖中的荷叶一眼望不到边;荷叶中亭亭玉立的荷花，比二月的红花还美丽，还真像古诗中描绘的“接天莲叶无穷碧，映日荷花别样红”。

西湖，是一曲动听悦耳的歌;是一首美轮美奂的诗;是一副来自大自然的图画。西湖的美景令人赏心悦目，怪不得有人愿意千里迢迢赶来欣赏它。美丽的西湖令人流连忘返，我喜欢杭州，但更喜欢杭州那举世闻名的西湖。

小时候，我喜欢在夏天傍晚的时候和母亲去散步，那是一种享受。母亲很喜欢散步，一天不出去走走就睡不着，坐不住。

我们每次散步都会穿过一片种满秧子、麦子、油菜的田地。我讨厌那些嗡嗡的小蚊子，一大片一大片挡住我的视线，但我喜欢那里浓浓的麦香味儿，油菜花味儿，这一切都象征着夏天的到来。

是的，再往前走走，路边还会有野花儿。我顺手摘了两朵，一朵插在我的头发上，另一朵则将它插在母亲头上。她的头发少之又少，还有几根白发，弄了许久才固定好。

我拉着她的手一起走在田野的路边上。咦?这是啥?有点膈手，举起她的手，有那么些许黄晕的光照在手心，那是茧巴，干活留下来的?我没有声张，慢慢将手放下去。

母亲说：“哎哟，你们这些小娃娃呢，手儿才嫩噢，哪像我们的手哇!”原来，母亲注意到了我的举动。和我们一起散步的邻居也笑了，还看了看我这“小嫩手”。

我想，她们以前也有像我这样让人羡慕的小手，长大后，为人妻，为人母，慢慢地开始操心家里的事了，没有时间顾得上自己。“你们的手这样，也还是劳动来的，手上的茧巴是勤劳的象征嘞!”我笑着对母亲说，母亲被我的话逗笑了。

我们继续走着，很赶巧——“卖桃子咯，又大又甜噢，不甜不要钱咯!”路边摆摊的大叔吆喝了起来，那声音，大得很。

母亲看到我那馋猫样子，就会给我买几个，那桃子很甜，很甜。我叫母亲尝尝，她却说她不喜欢吃，其实啊，她哪里是不想吃，不喜欢吃?只是留给我吃罢了。而我喜欢用杀手锏——直接喂在她嘴里，说：“你都吃了一口了啊，要吃完，不吃就浪费咯!”母亲这才吃下桃子。

走啊走啊，天黑了，是时候回家了……

There are many arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of examinations. Some people think that examinations can help them review the lessons regularly, while others maintain that too many examinations have frustrated them.

To me, I think an examination is a good thing for both teachers and students. Teachers can find out how much the students have grasped and then improve their teaching; students, on the other hand, will learn what their weak points are and then study even harder.

All in all, we should not waste time arguing whether examinations are good or not. What we should do is to try to improve the exam system and try to adjust it to our different requirements.
