人们都说：“不到长城非好汉。”那天，我乘坐公交车到八达岭长城，经过熊乐园，就到长城脚下，远看长城，它像一条长龙，在崇山峻岭之间蜿蜒盘旋。长城东起山海关，西到嘉峪关，全长约六千七百多公里。长城大都建筑在险峻的山岭之上，显得雄奇险峻，气势磅礴，宛如奔腾的巨龙，堪称中华民族象征。长城就建在这八达岭上，高大坚固，是用巨大的条石和几千吨重的城砖筑成的，这中间的道路，别看它只是用来走人，这条道路可以容下五六匹马并行，城墙外沿有两米多高的垛子，垛子上有了望口和射口，供了望和射击用，打仗时必不可少。长城上每隔一定距离，就有一个方形的城台，在打仗时城台之间可以互相呼应，人们管叫它“烽火台”。历经2000多年的修建，是世界最长的人工建筑，也是世界七大奇迹之一。

别看长城是那么雄伟壮观，但你有没有想过，在秦始皇统一的那个年代，修筑长城那是难得不能再难了，那时候，没有火车，没有汽车，也没有起重机，我们可想而知：“长城是如何建造的呢？”就靠着无数的肩膀、无数的手，一步一步十分艰难地抬上这如此陡峭的山岭。因为艰难地劳动，使许多老百姓有病不能治，最终被病魔折磨而死。甚至有些因为食物不足，使他们活活饿死。那些辛苦劳作的人们，用自己的血汗和智慧，才凝结成这前不见头、后不见尾的万里长城。
