Christmas is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the western countries. It falls on the twenty- fifth of December and has the same importance as Chinese New Year to people with English backgrounds. The celebration is for the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the son of God in Christianity. Now days Christmas is no longer only celebrated by the Christians, but by most people from all over the world.

On the twenty- fourth of December everyone gets excited for it’s the day before Christmas which is called Christmas Eve. The children are usually sent to bed early and are warned that “Santa Claus will only come and give you a present if you be good.” The younger kids actually believe that Santa will come down the chimney on the sleigh that’s pulled by his reindeers. Food like short bread and beer are prepared for Santa when he comes, however most times parents just eat them. Some children put socks and sacks up for the holding of the presents (that their parents put in).

Rise and shine on Christmas morning! The children are always the first ones to wake up, some even do at four. Present wrappers everywhere! They look into their presents with a big smile on their face and oh dear….I hope no one’s disappointed. I feel sorry for anyone that got pink underwear. the holiday called christmas is an amalgam of many winter holidays from around the world. the name is designated as a celebration of the birth of jesus, although the date is not recorded in the bible, and people at that time did not place particular important on birth dates. scientists say the actual date was june 17th, 2bc because of the appearance of the star that beckoned the magi. december 25th was set as the date for christmas in the 4th century by pope julius i as an attempt to christianize midwinter pagan holidays such as solstice and saturnalia. customs such as bringing evergreens inside, eating fat-laden foods, and hanging lights are universal responses to the cold, dark winter season. some of the stranger christmas traditions are remnants of those older pagan holidays, and some have been changed over the centuries until their origins are hard to discern. others were just made up to boost business!

krampus st. nicholas, father christmas, or santa claus is the weirdest christmas tradition ever, but he is so well known and so well documented that his origins are beyond the scope of this particular post. as a tool to encourage good behavior in children, santa serves as the carrot, and krampus is the stick. krampus is the evil demon anti-santa, or maybe his evil twin. krampus night is celebrated on december 5th, the eve of st. nicholas day in austria and other parts of europe. people dress as krampus and roam the streets looking for someone to beat with a stick. since it is also a night for drinking, the beatings probably don’t hurt much. 2.Many citizens like to live in the city.City folks like the conveniences and comforts of the big city.It is convenient to get around in the city by bus or taxicab.There are many taxicabs in most cities.

Cities have many schools for children,young people and adults.Adults can go to class at night to learn to read and write better,and to be trained for better jobs.Every large city has at least one college.Adults as well as young people have the chance to go to college.

Citizens of cities have convenient medical services.There are many good doctors to give these medical services.There are many policemen in the cities.The police protect the citizens.

The city has many kinds of entertainment.There are film shows,plays,concerts,parades,and many other kinds of entertainment.There are many places to visit.Many adults like the entertainment and comforts found in a city.

But some of our citizens like the country better.They say the country has many comforts,too.Most homes in the country have electricity.They have electric ice boxes and electric stoves.The country has many more conveniences and comforts than it once had.

The country has space for people to do things.People who live in the country have space to plant flowers and space to keep animals.Some people like to have space in which they can move around freely.

People in the country get lots of exercise when they work on the land.Children get lots of exercise by working or riding their bicycles to school.In the country there are fewer accidents and people do not need so many policemen to protect them.Living in the country is clean and quiet.
