Based on historical documents, modern survey and statistics, as well as the result of predecessor studies, the trend and main process of forest dynamics are recognized. The forest area and forest coverage rates for each province of China from 1700 to 1949 are es- timated backward by every 50 years. Linking the result with modern National Forest Inventory data, the spatial-temporal dynamics of Chinese forest in recent 300 years (AD 1700–1998) is quantitatively analyzed. The study shows that in recent 300 years, the forest area in current territory of China has declined by 0.95×108 hm2 (or 9.2% of the coverage rate) in total, with a trend of decrease and recovery. Before the 1960s, there was a trend of accelerated de- scending. The forest area was reduced by 1.66×108 hm2 (or 17% of the coverage rate) in 260 years. While after the 1960s, there has been a rapid increase. The forest area increased by 0.7×108 hm2 (or 8% of the coverage rate) in 40 years. The study also shows that there is a significant spatial difference in the dynamics of forest. The amplitudes of increasing and de- creasing in western China are both smaller than the ones in eastern China. During the rapid declining period from 1700 to 1949, the most serious decrease appeared in the Northeast, the Southwest and the Southeast, where the coverage rate in most provinces dropped over 20%. In Heilongjiang Province, the coverage rate dropped by 50%. In Jilin Province, it dropped by 36%. In Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, it dropped by 42%. In Yunnan Prov- ince, it dropped by 35%. Qu Yuan was a noble of Chu. During his lifetime, the powerful kingdom of Chu fell into a decline.

Early in his life, Qu Yuan won the confidence of the King of Chu, and was his deputy prime minister, helping draft laws and determine foreign-policy. When he saw the danger posed by the ambitious Qin State, he proposed government reforms and an alliance with the neighboring Qi state as a way to ensure Chu’s safety.

But the King of Chu was surrounded by self-seekers, who were jealous of Qu Yuan. They accepted bribes from the Qin’s envoy, dissuaded the King from taking Qu Yuan’s advice and brought about the poet’s estrangement from the King. Qu Yuan was finally sent into exile for 20 years.

During those desperate years, Qu Yuan helplessly watched his beloved country become weaker every day. In the year 278 BC, the capital of Chu was stormed by troops from Qin. In great pain, Qu Yuan wrote “Lisao” or “The Lament”, the greatest of all his poems. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he drowned himself in the Milo River, because he was hopeless about his country’s future.

Qu Yuan died thousands of years ago, but he is remembered every year for his love of and loyalty to his country and his people.

grace is one of my classmates. she is not good at study, though she usually works very hard. maybe she just doesn’t find the learning method suitable for her. in my mind, she is clever. thongh she is not good at study, she is popular in our class. in all people’s mind, she is kind and optimistic. treating everyone as friend, she has no enemy. as she doesn’t study well, it is hard to avoid feeling sad. however, everytime she just feels sad for a while and then recovers for the first one. sometimes it is her who comforts us for not for not doing well in the exam. look, she is so cute!

格瑞斯是我的一个同学。她学习不好，虽然她平时非常努力学习。也许她只是没有找到适合自己的学习方法而已。在我眼里，她是很聪明的。虽然她学习不好，但她在班里人缘很好。在所有人的眼里，她是友好，乐观的。她对待每个人都像朋友一样，所以她没有敌人。因为学习不好，难免会感到悲伤。但是，每次她都只是难过一会，就第一个恢复了。有时候还是她安慰我们这些因为考试不好而难过的人。看，她是如此的可爱！

University culture 大学传统

Singles Day was first celebrated at various universities in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu Province during the 1990s. It got the name Singles Day because the date is comprised of four "ones". These college students have since graduated, and carried their university tradition into society. Singles Day is now a special day for all fashionable youths.

The main way to celebrate Singles Day is to have dinner with your single friends, but its important that each person pay their own way to show their independence. People also hold blind date parties in an attempt to bid goodbye to their single lives.

光棍节最先在90年代的江苏南京各大高校兴起。之所以叫“光棍节”是因为这一天的日子有四个光棍一样的“1”。大学生们毕业了，把这个传统带到了社会上，光棍节就成了时尚青年们的一个特殊节日。

主流的庆祝方式就是和光棍朋友们一起搓一顿，而且一定要实行AA制。为了脱离单身，人们也会举办相亲会，介绍单身男女认识。

For breakfast on Singles Day, singles often eat four youtiao (deep-fried dough sticks) representing the four "ones" in "11.11" and one baozi (steamed stuffed buns) representing the middle dot.

Many singles also choose to say goodbye to their single lives on this day. Many attend blind date parties and many people choose to marry on this day. In addition to meaning single the four ones of the date can also mean only one as in the only one for me. Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special someone that they are the only one in their heart.

光棍节的早上，单身青年们会吃四根油条，代表11.11的四个“1”，再吃一个包子，代表11和11之间的那个点。

很多单身朋友选择在这一天告别单身，一些人参加相亲会，一些人则在今天结婚。四个“1”不仅可以代表单身，还可以代表“唯一”，这也成了一些人的爱情告白日。
