I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helped her leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And lastly, Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worse than the men. A HONG KONG boy has published an English novel of some 50,000 words. The novel was included in Hong Kong’s book exhibition, Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday. Xinhua said the boy, Li Yupeng, 11, finished the science fiction, The Four Phoenixes, in one year. Some 1,000 copies of the book were printed and 200 copies had been sold — to the boy’s schoolmates. The boy’s father published the book at a cost of HK$30,000 (US$3,846), as a gift for the boy’s graduation from primary school. The book was about a hero’s adventure in the “Dark Age.” The hero, Koba, took four “Phoenix swords” in the “Dark Age” to assassinate a warlord named Scaren, Li said. Li began reading English cartoons at the age of six and had read nearly 500 English books, said his mother. He took only five hours to finish reading a Harry Potter novel which had more than 600 pages.

一进大门，就看见远处有架“过山车”，再往后看是许许多多的游乐设备，原来是游乐园啊!我高兴得一蹦一跳地向前跑去，心想：等会儿，“丛林飞鼠”、“海盗船”、“过山车”我都要玩个够!过了一会儿，游乐场就到了，爸爸问我：“想玩些什么呀?”“嗯……”我想了想说，“摩天轮、幸福快车、丛林飞鼠、弯月快车、空中客车……”

于是，爸爸领着我坐上了“空中客车”。一会儿，随着一声哨子声，“空中客车”起飞了。它很快地盘旋着上了天空，我感觉耳边只有风声和鸟声，风吹着头发，舒服极了，好像自己也变成了一只自由自在的小鸟。几分钟后，我们下了车，又奔向“丛林飞鼠”。

“丛林飞鼠”看别人玩好像不怎么吓人，可要是自己玩，可真是惊心动魄!我和爸爸坐上“丛林飞鼠”，管理员为我们系好安全带，车就开动了，刚开始开得很慢，我还以为一直会照这个速度下去，便有点得意忘形：“这也不怎么样嘛!”可车刚冲上坡，便来了个超级大转弯，把我弄得头昏目眩，耳朵也磕破了皮。我吓得不敢动，可急转弯又多，我的脖子感觉都快断了。幸好也就一分钟，要不然就“头破血流”啦，我走下台阶，心里愤愤地想：再也不玩“丛林飞鼠”了!

接着，我和妈妈、爸爸一起玩弯月快车”。只见场内有四条像弯月一样的轨道，人坐在车上，就可以在轨道里滑行了。或许是刚才“丛林飞鼠”留下来的后遗症，我玩什么都有一种恐惧心理。我抓紧扶手，车飞快地行驶着，像秋千一样荡来荡去，只要身体也跟着荡就不怎么吓人了。我便松开手，可我总是那么倒霉——头又被扶手撞了，我看见头顶上有许多小星星在转……

Today, the world is globalized and more and more foreigners come to China

to seek for business cooperation. Many years ago, a non-profit organization

named the second Saturday of July as the International Day of Cooperatives. Its

purpose is to call for more cooperations between countries.

With the development of Internet, the world gets smaller, because the

communication between countries has increased. America is the superpower all the

time, but during recent times, there are so many business cooperation between

Chinese people and American people. It is known to all that China’s market is

full of vitality, so there is no doubt that cooperation between countries will

be the main trend.

The cooperation happens all the time and it promotes the working

efficiency. People can share the information and technology. They learn from

each other, so as to gain the precious experience and make progress. China is

10月1日是祖国母亲的生日，为了庆祝这特殊的日子，将在天安门广场举行隆重的阅兵仪式。

六点整，天刚蒙蒙亮，我就打开电视，看到天安门广场已经是人山人海了。有参加阅兵的人民解放军、有参加群众游行的老百姓和来自世界各地的朋友……今日的北京，分外美丽;今日的北京，与众不同;今日的北京，世界瞩目;今日的北京，将举办世界最大的透过电视，我遥望天安门广场，感到这个亿万立方米的神圣之地，今天焕然一新，在蓝天白云的映衬下，在五星红旗的簇拥下显得庄严无比。

10时许，盛典正式开始。随着轰鸣的礼炮，天安门广场沸腾了，雄壮的国歌声响彻天空，我不由自主地随大家齐声高唱，只见护卫队整齐的军姿，护送着鲜艳的五星红旗进入广场中央，当国旗冉冉上升时，我心潮澎湃，热泪盈眶。

阅兵开始，开始检阅陆海空三军。随后三军开始列方队通过天安门城楼。首先有14个徒步方队向天安门城楼走来，只见解放军叔叔个个都是帅小伙，让我感受到了什么是威武之师。爸爸还特别告诉我，你看，特种兵方队，这是第一次参加阅兵。让我惊艳不已的是女民兵方队，真是万绿丛中一点红，阿姨们排着整齐的队伍，迈着有力的正步，只听见那“唰、唰”的步伐声回荡在耳边。从电视画面里仔细看，整个方队就像一个个方块在移动，可想而知，为了今天的成功，叔叔阿姨在平日的训练里付出了多少努力啊!接着30个装备方队铁流滚滚、气势磅礴地向天安门驶来。听电视播音员介绍，这些坦克、导弹、雷达车、无人机和卫星通信车等信息化装备都是我国自主研发的，性能已经达到了世界先进水平。最后151架战机编成的12个空中梯队呼啸凌空。其中有我国首批培养的女飞行员，她们驾驶着飞机在天安门上空打出了一道道彩色烟弹。

国庆阅兵庆典让我久久难以平静，我被深深地震撼了：人民军队用事实，用实际行动，展现出了中国的军魂，中国的力量，让世界看到了现在的中国神圣不可侵犯。我也真切体会到祖国是多么的强大，我作为中华民族的儿女感到无比的自豪!我也想高声大喊：

祖国万岁!
