To begin with, modern lifestyle has contributed greatly to the increasing amount of waste and garbage we produce everyday. In other words, we have turned into a materialistic and mass-consumption society where we use more and throw away more than ever before. To solve this intractable problem, every citizen needs to participate in producing less garbage. This rich historic heritage has endowed Henan with numerous historic treasures, from primitive dwellings to earliest wheel thrown pottery. The remains of some of the earliest human settlements have been unearthed here, including the over 7000-year-old Peiligang Culture Site, the 6000-year-old Yangshao Culture Remains and the 5000-year-old Dahe Culture Remains. All these cultural remains have profound significance in the history of Chinese civilization.

Luoyang City has been the capital of nine dynasties since the time of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770BC-221BC). There are many historical sites to be viewed in Luoyang as well as the opportunity to purchase replicas of the famed Tang three-glaze horses. Luoyangs Longmen Grottoes, famous for its grand treasure trove of Chinese Buddhist statues, are located 12km (7 miles) south of Luoyang. First sculpted and chiseled around 493 AD when the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) was moved from Datong City to Luoyang, the grottoes of Luoyang house an awe-inspiring collection of sculpted Buddha and other religious subjects.

Kaifeng, one of the ancient capitals, also boasts the following buildings worthy of a visit: Iron Pagoda (Tie Ta) of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), Dragon Pavilion (Long Ting) - site of imperial palace of the Song and Jin dynasties - and the 1400-year-old Xiangguo Temple which is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. Also on view in Kaifeng are ruins of the Shang Dynasty, an important part of human cultural and historic heritage. The Shang Dynasty Ruins, also known as the Yin Ruins, are famous because of the unique style of the large palace and its grand mausoleums, in which emperors of the Shang Dynasty are buried. The bronze vessels of the Shang Dynasty, which were both finely decorated and popularly used by the citizens of the Shang Dynasty, are well-known at home and abroad.

With the rapid development of the society, many things around our life are changed. Personally speaking, my hometown has changed a lot.

When I was a child, there was only one black and white TV set in our village. And I don’t know what’s computer. I often went to school on foot. What’s more, in summer, we had to use hand-made fans to make our temperature down. If I wanted to connect with the distant friends or relatives,  the most convenient way is writing letters, which may lost on the way or take a lot of time to reach the destination.

However, nowadays, there are four color televisons in my home and most people have their own computers. And now cars are seen everywhere. In addition, most houses have airconditioning, which can cool the whole house quickly. With the development of cell phone, people can reach each other in a second. They can talk or see each other through cell phone.

As time passes, my hometown has change a lot thanks to the social development. I believe there will be much more changes in the future.

我是湖南人，我的`家乡就是最近闹得人心惶惶的非法开采稀土矿区的——茶陵县。

原本我的家乡是一片青山绿水，好山好水的乡村。我的家乡在群山中，路边的池塘，门口的小溪流，都是我童年记忆中戏水、捉鱼的最佳之处。可是最近它们消失了，因为我的家乡被查出非法开采稀土矿。路边的池塘、门口的小溪流里面的水全都被污染了，小鱼小虾都死光了，就连我们日常的生活用水饮用水都成了问题。那些非法开采稀土矿的工人，你们的良心难道没有遭受谴责吗？是你们把祖国的大好河山全都破坏了，是你们把我的家乡弄得人心惶惶，你们做错了事还逃避。我们每天为生活用水饮用水而忧愁，田里地里辛辛苦苦种了大半年的庄稼不能吃，眼睁睁的看着鱼和鸡大片的死亡，你们的心里难道没有一丝的愧疚吗？你们偷偷摸摸干这件事干了两三年，你们可否知道，这些被污染后的水我们一旦喝进去，大人容易得癌，小孩容易得白血病。

可不可以还我的家乡一片青山绿水？可不可以让我们不用每天为生活用水和饮用水而忧愁？可不可以让那些农民伯伯辛辛苦苦种的庄稼有个好收成？

我的家乡在荆州。平时，我对家乡的环境也不大了解。这几天，我们班组织同学们进行了一次综合实践活动，对家乡的环境进行了一次调查，调查的主要对象是荆州的护城河。这次调查让我受益匪浅。

通过实地调查和上网查资料，我了解到以前的荆州护城河污染十分严重。护城河两侧共有二十多个排污口，每天城区的生活及工业污水排入护城河，直接排入的总污水量约5万立方米。因此，河水变成了浑浊的墨绿色。居住在附近的居民和过往的行人也很不爱护环境，把垃圾随随便便仍进河里，使河水的污染进一步加重。由于护城河是死水，无法流动，河底淤泥非常多，水面上漂浮着大量的蓝藻，河底的沉积物散发着臭味。人们从这里经过，都要捂着鼻子，加快脚步。

护城河的污染成为了荆州人的心中之痛。在广大市民的期盼下，市政府对护城河进行了彻底的治理。经过清淤、补水、截污、绿化……护城河面貌焕然一新。

如今的护城河碧波荡漾，波光粼粼。护城河宛如一面绿色的大镜子，映出了蓝天白云和古老城墙的美丽倒影。几只鸭子在水面上嬉戏，几条小船在小河上悠闲地驶来驶去，真可谓“舟行碧波上，人在画中游”。河岸上杨枊依依，与古老的城墙交相辉映，美不胜收。

通过这次的环境调查，我增强了环保意识。我们一定要好好保护环境，让我们共同的家园天更蓝、水更清、景色更美！

家乡绍兴原来不但水多，而且名人也有很多，被毛泽东主席成为“鉴湖越台名士乡”。但是因为现在人们随意破坏水资源，有些本来是清澈见底的水，现在已经变成了污水、废水。有些游客总是怀着好奇新来到绍兴，他们好奇的是：绍兴的水到底会有多清、多澄澈？但来到绍兴后，那份好奇一下子全没了，在他们眼前的竟然也是浑浊的河水，这就是随意破坏水资源的后果，使游客对我们绍兴的美好印象减少几分。这只是我们的一个缺点。我们生活中需要水，并不说明我们可以大量的浪费水，因为世界上可饮用水只占了百分之几而已。从此时此刻开始，我们要节约水，保护水。虽然我们的力量微小，但是如果全市人民都一起行动，那么，这力量就会变得很大很大。当我们看到有市民在破坏水资源时，我们要上前劝告，阻止。不止要保护水，我们还要一同来保护周围的绿化，树提供给了我们氧气，让周围的空气变得更加清新；花为周围的环境变得更加美丽吸引人；小草，你可别看它微小，它不怕风吹和雨打，总是坚强的立在那，有句古诗提到“野火烧不尽，春风吹又生。”他那种不屈的精神，值得我们学习。植物是有灵性的，我们不要去破坏它，伤害它。当我们在公园里的时候，不要为了一时的顽皮，去踩踏花草，也不要去砍伐树木，他们都在默默的奉献给人们生活环境的需要，我们以该感谢它们，不该去破坏它们。

How Freshmen Adapt to the New Environment?

When freshmen enter the university at the first time they have to deal with all kinds of affairs independently.Whether a new student can understand and become familiar with the environment of the campus rapidly will determine whether he can live and study freely.

Firstly,the freshmen should be familiar with layout of the campus as soon as possible.As soon as freshmen arrange properly their luggage after entering the university,they should familiarise themselves with every location in the campus at once.In this way,they will save more time and get along smoother than others when they go through various kinds of formalities and solve various kinds of problems.
