People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the

world.But

I dont think so. In my opinion, to read books is more valuable than

anything else.

The old saying “To open a book is always helpful” clearly tells us how good

it is to read a book.

Books are our friends. They introduce us different kinds of knowledge. They

lead us down the road to success.

Books are our teachers. They teach us troth, science, literature, and

philosophy of life. Besides, they increase our knowledge, enlarge our

experience,strengthen our character and do many other things which we can not do

without them.

Books tell us what is good and what is evil. And only books can tell the

good from the bad.

Therefore to read more books is the best policy for our young students.

After seeing so many movies about the youth, we are starting to wonder

about what do we have in our youth, the fight, the drink or the love? My answer

is no. What we see from the movie is not true, the plots are exaggerated and

misunderstood. For students, their youth is the process of fighting. They have

studied so hard to realize their dreams. When they are in primary school, they

want to do well and make their parents be proud of them. When they are in middle

school and high school, they need to take part in the exams so as to enter the

better future schools. Even they are in college, they still need to study and

fight for the ideal job. There is no doubt that most people keep fighting for

their future and this is the memory of youth.

The first fathers day was in June, 5th, 1910, United Stated. In 1909, a

lady called Bruce Dodd put forward that people should establish father’s day. At

that time, people only celebrated the mothers day, but nobody celebrate

fathers day yet. Lady Dodd had lost her mother when she was very young, her

father raised her grew up. Lady Dodd was so thankful for what her father had

done for her that she wrote a letter to the government. In the letter, she

appeals to establish the fathers day. The government accepted her suggestion

and decided that the third Sunday of June is the national father’s day. In 1972,

the president Nixon had passed the law and agreed that the father’s day is on

June the third Sunday. From this year, the world started to celebrate father’s

day.

On this special day, the children usually dedicate flowers to their

fathers. The red roses to those who still alive, while the white ones to the

fallings. Fathers always are considered being the central of the whole family.

Without father in the family, home may feel insecure. The father always fights

for the family and support the family. On this day, we can do something for our

fathers. For instance, we can make a breakfast for them, or buy them a nice tie.

We should spend more time with our father, show our love to them.

The father’s day is coming, take this chance, and tell our fathers that we

love him. Happy father’s day!

Today things are different。 The world has bee too crowded。 We are using up

our natural resources，and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals。 If

we continue to do this， human life on earth will not survive。

We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea， there will soon be

none left。 Yet，with modern fishing methods， more and more fish are caught。We

know that if too many trees are cut down， forests will disappear。 Yet， we

if rivers are polluted with waste products， we will die。 Yet， waste products

still put into rivers。

We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate， in a

few years， there wont be enough food。What can we do to solve these

problems?

If we eat more vegetables and less meat， there will be more food available。

Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are

kept。

Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them。

The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods

of birth control。

Finally， if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a

better and cleaner planet in the future。

Olympic Games hold every four years and I like to watch the matches so

much. People always pay much attention to the champions, while for me, the

inspiring players are easier to catch my attention. Though some players do not

get the prize, they deserve applause as the champions have. I remembered that in

the Beijing Olympics, in women’s 100-meter-race, a girl looked different from

other athletes, because she worn scarf and was from Afghanistan. She lagged much

behind other athletes, but she still got the intense applause. She showed to the

world that Afghan women could join this big event. Her insistence helped her to

come to the world stage.

Peer pressure means the influence given by a group of people around you,

such as, parents, friends, classmates, teachers and so on. Their influence will

affect your attitude, behavior, conception or decision. As every side has two

sides, this influence also has two sides. Let me explain my reasons.

For one thing, influence of peer pressure has positive effect. It depends

on the specific thing. Sometimes, the influence of pressure will promote me get

progress. For instance, my deskmate does well in one math exam, while I fall far

behind her. As we are deskmates, i can’t let others look down on me. So i will

take her as my good example to fight. And then next time, I can get a good mark

by my effort. Take my parents as another example, they like clean. They don’t

have the habit to throw rubbish at will. I won’t have this habit either living

with them.

For another, influence of peer pressure has negative effect. Sometimes the

influence will be bad. For example, if my friends ask me to skip class to watch

a basketball match with them, i go with them, even i don’t have that thought

before. And one of my friends has gone through a lot, he always try to convince

me that money is very important. As time passes, i may change my conception.

In summary, the influence of peer pressure has positive and negative sides.

We have to advocate the good side and avoid the negative. We have to be clear

about what is right and what is wrong and firm our position.

Nowadays, almost everyone has a mobile phone. Some people even have two or

three. Mobile phones changes our lives a lot. It’s so easy to get to others. All

you have to do is making a call. You can talk to anyone no matter how far you

are. Making calls and texting messages are the basic functions of mobile phones.

But now, we can do a lot of things by mobile phones, such as listening to the

music, watching movies, taking photos, reading books and so on. It’s so

functional that it seems like a computer to some extent. Some people even deal

with their business by mobile phones. It’s amazing.

We can see such signs as “No Smoking” in some public places, which is a

kind of measure taken to ban smoking in public places. However, concerning about

this measures, different people hold divergent opinions. The smokers protest

against that it is a kind of action to deprive of their free right, while the

non-smokers are in favor of banning smoking in public places.

In my opinion, I am inclined to support the latter one—smoking should be

banned in public places. There are reasons accounting for my point. For one

thing, people will be harmed by the second-hand smoking if someone smokes in

public places, especially the infants and children. For another, banning smoking

in public places is also beneficial to the smokers. If they are banned to smoke

in public places, they will restrain themselves from smoking and smoke less. In

the meantime, it is a contribution to reduce the air pollution.

Therefore, I advocate that smoking in public places should be banned so

that we can breathe the fresh air and suffer less from the second-hand smoking.

Let’s work together to create and sustain out green and fresh environment.

Recently, I have seen an impressive film—“Meet the Parents”, which is about

a woman Palm brought her boyfriend Greg to her parents’ home to spend holiday.

In the film, Greg was so dishonest to Palm’s parents that Palm’s father is

suspicious of his behavior and quality. As a result, Greg is obnoxious to all

and has to leave. As far as I am concerned, the consequence is heavily caused by

his dishonesty. If Greg could be real him all the time, he would get much

respect and appreciation and would not get much frustration. From the film, I

have learned that being honest was extremely important and necessary. In other

words, being honest is a basic principle for us to deal with others.

For one thing, we will not get others’ trust unless we are honest. If we

deceive others, we would get the same in return, and even no one would make

friends with us or even communicate with us. For another, we will get others’

respect and appreciation if telling the truth. Telling the truth and being

ourselves, we will get a healthy and peaceful surrounding to grow up better.

However, something strange happens in our society. There is a strange

phenomenon that honest people suffer but the dishonest benefit a lot. It made

some people have a suspicion that being honest is not so important.

But I still believe that these are just a few cases, since honesty is

deeply rooted in our minds and we still consider it as a basic principle in

social contacts.

When I watch the TV series, there always present the rich familys life,

but I dont feel envious about the rich life. It is obvious that though these

people live the better life, the cost is that their parents spend less time to

play with them. The time to stay with our parents is really important, while the

rich parents have much work to do, so they dont have much private hours. I was

born in an ordinary family. My parents will never miss the moment when I need

them. I am so thankful to life, because I have my parents love. Whats more, I

have made many good friends. We share our interest and have a lot in common.

If life is a banquet,Friendshipis a flower. Friendship is to our life

what water is to fish. If you are in trouble, friends will surround you and

remove the barriers for you. Friendship plays an important role in our daily

life. I’ll cherish my friendship forever.

When I was in Grade 3 in senior high school, because of serious headache, I

couldn’t go to school. The doctor said that I must have a rest for a week. Once

hearing that, I was anxious. The step of Gaokao approaches. The subjects are

quite difficult. One night at eleven o’clock when we heard someone knock the

door, mum opened the door. Li Ming came in .He walked towards my bed and asked

my body. Then he said he would help me with the subjects. I didn’t agree with

him .After a day’s classes he was very tired. But he insisted on helping me with

the subjects. In the end, I agreed. Whether it was fine or not, he came

punctually. I was deeply impressed by his kindness. Apart from helping me with

the subjects, he also comforted me. And I felt better. As proverb says “If you

tell your sorrow to your friends, your sorrow will be reduced by half.” I

thought he had helped me a lot. If he had not helped me with the subjects at

that time, I firmly believed I would have fallen behind others. I felt an

immense gratitude to Li Ming. I was happy to have such a friend.

To sum up, a life without a friend is a life without sun. Friendship is one

of the most valuable things in life. We should treasure our friendship.

Because of the high developing speed of the world, pressure has become a

serious problem in nowadays. As our students, we also have to face with much

pressure, such as the study pressure, exam pressure,relationship pressure and so

on. But how can we cope with pressure? This is the most important.

Firstly, we should face the pressure appropriately. Pressure is inevitable

in our daily life, so we cant be afraid of them and try our best to cope with

them. Secondly, tell our pressure to others. Talking is a very effective way to

ease pressure, and during the talking, we may get some suggestions and

solutions. Finally, trust ourselves. We should believe ourselves that we can

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most popular traditional festivals

or reed leaves—is also a popular custom during this day. It can be made by many

kinds of stuffing. What’s more, hanging herbs on the front door, drinking

realgar wine and pasting up picture of Zhongkui—a mythic guardian figure in

ancient china—are also popular during the festival, which are mean to protect

people from evil and disease.

These customs and traditions have been changed a little in recent years,

but they still make contribution to the spread and inheritance of Chinese

culture.

This weekend, there was an art festival in our school, it had been hold for

five years and the school insisted to make it become the feature. I was so

excited, this was the first time for me to join. Early in the morning, I saw

there were so many people coming to the campus, making the campus so lively. The

students dressed so well and gave the warm welcome to the guests. I walked

around and appreciated the painting, every work was drawn by the students, I was

so impressed by these works. There were also some handworks, which were so

creative, it reflected the students’ wisdom. Though we were busy with our

subjects most of the time, some students still kept on their hobbies and made it

their talent. I should learn from them and develop some interest.

Since we go to school, we are taught that no pain, no gain, it means that

if people want to be successful, they must work hard. But the truth is that not

everyone can get what they want, even they work hard so much, but if working

hard does not bring success, why should they still need to work hard. In my

opinion, working hard doesn’t mean the person can success certainly, success

needs more factors, like the time, the luck and other things. There is no doubt

that if the person does not work hard and fight for his goal, there is no way

for him to get what he wants. Some actors start their career at the very young

age, when they are also 40, they become famous suddenly, if they give up, they

can’t be waiting for their reputation. So working hard, there is much chance to

get succeed.

Today many college students have their own hobbies. For example, some of

them like singing; some of them enjoy playing the guitar; some of them are keen

on painting; some of them are crazy about taking photos, and so on.

I think it’s meaning for college students to have hobbies, because hobbies

can benefit them a lot. On one hand, after a long-time study, hobbies can make

them feel relaxed. On the other hand, when they feel depressed, hobbies can

bring them happiness. Furthermore, hobbies can mould their temperament as well

as show their characteristics.

However, some students are so addicted to their hobbies that they spend

less time on study. How foolish of them to do so! In my view, if we focus too

much on one thing, either our studies or hobbies will be badly affected. Thus,

we are supposed to balance them in a proper way.

My school life is very common. I get up at six o’clock every morningfrom

Monday to Friday. And the I would go running with my classmates, as our head

teacher says health is themost important thing. After running I have to do

morning exercises on theplayground. Then I can have breakfast. Having breakfast,

I need to have morningreading. Oh, I almost forget that all of the students have

to do some cleaningbefore breakfast. There come the various classes. Then noon

comes. Havinglunch, I will go to sleep. I often read twenty minutes before I

fall asleep. I haveclass in the afternoon. And I still have classes at night.

It’s boring, right? ButI have got used to it and enjoy myself at school.

through it. From that, they may come to China and learn about other aspects of

this culture, such as traditional operas like the Beijing and Sichuan ones.

Asian nations have long known about the greatness of ancient Chinese culture.

Korea and Japan long ago adopted ideas such as Confucianism is something that

continues today even as it is challenged by Pop Culture. This strength comes

from the ideas given in the Four Books of Confucianism (The Great Learning, The

Doctrine of the Mean, The Analects of Confucius, and The Book of Mencius). These

books built upon the ideas of an even more ancient period codified in the Five

Classics. From them, the West learns such things as Fengshui and other concepts

that are uniquely Chinese. China has taken steps to further this spread of its

culture by establishing Chinese Cultural Centers in such places as the United

States and Europe.
