泉州的名胜远近闻名，深受中外旅客所向往。就拿泉州东湖来说，泉州东湖公园建在古泉州十大胜景之一的“星湖荷香”遗址。唐代湖面曾达4000多亩，有二公亭、东湖亭，宋时添波恩亭，湖中垒土七墩，如星斗、遍植荷花，遂成星湖荷香胜概，明时又加揽古亭。
