虽然从此“年”不来了，但人们仍旧担心它还会再来骚扰。就这样，“过年放鞭炮”的习俗就形成了。

过年时，大家除了放鞭炮，还要吃水饺。老师说：“饺子”就是“交子”，意思是说旧年向新的一年交替。而古人在饺子里放一枚铜板，谁第一个吃到装有铜板的饺子，就意寓着今年会很幸运。现在的人们，觉得这样不卫生，改用装一颗蜜糖。
