这则寓言告诉我们一个道理:长辈对孩子的教育是很重要的， 泥土和玫瑰相处，吸收玫瑰的芬芳，久而久之，就会有相同的味道，也能够为别人带来了香味。正如人也一样，和一群善良的人在一起玩，必会养出善良的心灵，和一群品质恶劣的人在一起，不邪恶也难。 可见不良的环境能改变人的习性。
