本书共分四个部分：坚持总是失败的原因;培养坚持习惯的三个时期;十二个持续开关让你坚持到底;六个成功坚持的故事。

一、为什么我们总是无法坚持下去?

1. 习惯是一种无意识的行为。我们每天刷牙，洗脸，上班其实都是一种习惯，大脑在无意识中完成的。

2. 习惯是有引力的，人的大脑和身体都是喜欢稳定状态的。当你想培养一个新的习惯时，就会打破原来的平衡状态，进而会有一种无形的力量阻挡着你。就像分子之间的引力和斥力一样，距离比较远时，引力起主要作用，把分子拉近，距离太近时，斥力起主要作用，把分子推开。

由以上两点，可以得出一个结论，如果要培养一个新的习惯，就需要不停地重复某种行为一段时间，克服阻力，进而让大脑和身体认为它是“习以为常的”，达到无意识完成的状态。

3. 那么重复这种行为多久才能达到无意识状态呢?不同的习惯有不同的时间。

行为习惯——跟环境相关的(读书，日记，整理，记录等等)需要1个月;

身体习惯——跟身体相关的(早起，减肥，运动，戒烟等等)需要3个月;

思考习惯——跟大脑相关的(逻辑，创新，逆向思维等等等)需要6个月。

所以说21天养成一个习惯的说法值得商榷。

二、培养习惯需要经历哪3个阶段?

本书以行为习惯为例，需要经历反抗期，不稳定期和倦怠期。

反抗期(1-7天)，这个阶段失败的人占到失败总人数的42%，因为自己无法对抗习惯引力而放弃。

解决办法：婴儿学步法。这个时期会受到习惯引力的抵抗，所以不能苛求自己，千里之行，先走出第一步。想跑步的话，把走出门当做第一阶段的习惯;想收拾房间把整理5分钟当做第一步。

不稳定期(8-21天)，这个阶段失败的人占到失败总人数的40%，因为自己被外界影响而放弃。

解决办法：把行为模式化，固定时间。这个时期很容易受到外界影响，所以要把第一阶段的习惯模式化，比如固定早上7点-7点5分整理房间5分钟。

设定例外原则。不稳定期外界的影响因素太多了，可能计划的是7点整理，但是某一天睡过头了，7点半才起，来不及了。那这一天就下班后，抽出5分钟整理。

设定持续开关。不稳定期的时间比较长，所以要通过一些奖励措施，进行正反馈，通过一些惩罚措施来限制自己安全度过这个阶段，这个就是第三章的内容，稍后会细说。

请记住：例外的意思是偶尔，这只是应对突发事件以及不受完美主义限制的一个规则。

倦怠期(22-30天)，这个阶段失败的人占到失败总人数的18%，因为厌烦而放弃。

解决办法：进行一些变化。比如整理房间的同时听点音乐，收拾东西时活动活动筋骨。

进行下一个习惯，一举两得。比如整理房间的同时背一个英文小短文。

三、十二个持续开关让你坚持到底。

所谓持续开关，就是通过奖励和惩罚来顺应人“获得快感”和“回避痛苦”的天性，进而减少习惯引力，达成目的的方法。

原书中奖励和惩罚各6种，如下：

糖果型开关：物质奖励，被称赞，游戏，设定理想目标，仪式感，扫除障碍;

处罚型开关：计算得失，结交同样的朋友，公布自己的习惯，进行处罚型游戏，设定目标，强制自己完成。

糖果型：完成之后给予物质和精神奖励，多想想自己达成目标后的状态，转移注意力或者说是远离诱惑;

惩罚型：想想完不成的结果会如何，人以群分(找志同道合的朋友互相监督)，想大众公布出来(至于大家的监督之下)，强制自己(花2个月工资办健身卡)

四、6个成功坚持的故事

这里就写一个永远不会过时的——减肥。

1. 减肥属于身体习惯，需要3个月，所以要以3个月为单位制定计划。

2.了解减肥的本质——减肥不是减体重，而是体脂率下降。所以，去买个体脂秤。

3.了解减肥的根本原理——消耗的热量大于摄入的热量。人类维持本身的消化等活动都有一个自然消耗的热量，一个成年人大约在1000大卡——1500大卡之间。去健身房找专业的仪器测试一下，假设是1200大卡。

4. 把自己平常吃的一日三餐以及其他食物的热量列出来，做一张清单，列出每天大致摄入的热量。假设每天摄入的热量是2000卡大。

反抗期(第1-3周)：通过婴儿学步的方式，先减少晚餐的热量摄入量，或者从不吃宵夜开始，使每天的摄入量在1800大卡左右，这两点都不会对原有的习惯造成太大的影响，所以阻力不会太大。同时记录每天的摄入热量，每天测一次体脂率。

不稳定期(第4-7周)：固定早饭，午饭，晚饭的时间(模式化)，对经常吃的三餐作一个排列组合以及替换，使每天的摄入量低于1500大卡。超出的300大卡通过快走，跑步或者其他运动来解决。如果当天有聚餐的话，就比平时多运动一段时间(例外原则)。

稳定期(第8-10周)：消耗一斤脂肪需要4500大卡的热量。也就是说21天里打算减掉3斤，就需要3*4500/21=643大卡，每天消耗的热量要比摄入的热量多643大卡。所以要多吃等重低卡食物，将每天摄入的热量达到1000大卡，然后通过运动再消耗掉额外的443大卡(大概相当于一个50公斤重的女生跑步10公里或者走路15公里)

倦怠期(第11-13周)：制作一份低卡食谱，根据自己的目标，继续降低摄入的热量，但是要增加品种(加入变化)，同时每天运动的时候听听音乐，找人陪你一起运动(结交同样的朋友)。

大致过程如上，里面涉及到的一些数字大体上都是对的，但是具体是多少还是需要根据每个人的情况去做准确的测量，仅供参考，只是通过一个实例来说明如果坚持。
