过去的文章大家没有留下记载，不好说。现代文学上的好多名家，留下记载，可以说，少小时都经过这种严格的训练。著名作家胡适先生在《四十自述》里说：“我念的第三部书叫做《律诗六钞》……全是律诗，我读了虽不懂得，却背得很熟。”书里，还开列了他小时候“诵读”过的十三种古书，除了《论语》、《孟子》，还有《书经》、《易经》、《礼记》等。
