一、厚德修身

《左传》中讲，“太上有立德，其次有立功，其次有立言”，做人做事最上等的就是树立德行，其次是建功立业，再次是创立学说。德是做人的基础和根本，做人做事第一位的就是厚德修身。《墨子》有云“德为才之帅，才为德之资”。一个人只有明大德、守公德、严私德，其才方能用得其所。我校校训“宏德博学、化育天工”中，宏德是最基本的，是大家今后事业发展的根本前提。走向社会，你们将面临各种各样的利益诱惑，如果一个人心浮气躁、利欲熏心，就难以成就事业，更无法谈及为国家和民族做出应有的贡献。因此，希望大家“德行天下”，牢记“宏德博学、化育天工”的校训，努力在实现中国梦的伟大实践中创造属于自己的精彩人生。

二、心存敬畏

“凡善怕者，必身有所正，言有所规，行有所止，偶有逾矩，亦不出大格。”常怀敬畏之心的人，不会轻易浮躁，不容易出格，不容易犯错误。所谓敬畏，是要敬畏人生，抱着一种负责的态度谨慎、认真的走好生命的每一步。所谓敬畏，是要敬畏未知，以一种虚怀若谷、热忱向往的心态面对你所接触到的每一项任务、每一个人;所谓敬畏，是要敬畏规则，不断审视并修正我们心中的道德法则，养成良好的品性。同学们，今后的路很长，不要为了博得眼球而哗众取宠，不要为了鼓起腰包而肆意妄为，不要为了争名夺利而触碰底线，更不要因为离开了校园这片净土就放弃了人生的坚守。越是艰难的时刻，越要有信仰，越要坚持敬畏之心。

In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.

After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.

London and Tower Bridge

Not much is known about the earliest London Bridge although it’s location is thought to be near the present one. The second bridge a wooden one existing in Saxon times seems to have given rise to the nursery rhyme ‘London Bridge is falling down’ which it did in 1014. In 1176 the first stone bridge was constructed. Houses sprung up on both sides of the bridge and stood until it was pulled down in 1831, making way for a more elegant, classic structure. This bridge was replaced in 1967 as it could no longer cope with the amount of traffic. The present London Bridge is more 100 feet wide.

The London Bridge preceding the current one was bought by the McCulloch Oil Corporation of California, which reconstructed it at Lake Havasu City, in a corner of America’s Arizona Desert. Rumour has it that McCulloch’s thought they were buying the much more spectacular Tower Bridge.

The Construction of Tower Bridge began in 1885 and it was opened 9yrs later by Edward VII the then Prince of Wales, Amidst pomp and ceremony. Since the Thames is no longer used much as a trade and shipping route, the complex lifting mechanism is only used 4 or 5 times a week. The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party.
