I am a sophmore of Nanchang University.Now i want to introduce to you guys

about my university.It has a long history back to the fifties of last

century.

As it locate far away from the city center ,the most prosperous place,you

may think the traffic is totally unconvenient,then you are wrong,instead of

unconvenient ,there are a lot of transportation tools that will take you to

where you want to go at any time.when it going to say about facilities and

faculites,i will say they are excellent and helpful.I cherish friendship and

like to make as many friends as i can and i found out that the students there

are have a heart of gold ,and are hospital.So,thats my university,it is not the

best one but i still love it .I can foresee that i will enjoiy my life on campus

from now.

when we think of halloween, we think of "trick or treat", pumpkins, jack o lanterns, vampires and haunted houses.

but do you know the origin of halloween? why does it fall on 31 october? what kind of festival is it? why is it so creepy?

halloween dates back to a celtic festival called samhain. november 1 is the new year of the celts, who lived in europe more than a thousand years ago. this is the day which marked the end of summer and harvest.

the celts believed that on the night of october 31, ghosts of the dead would return to earth. the celts celebrated samhain by dressing up in costumes with animal heads and having bonfires.

many celts settled in britain and ireland, where the festival became popular. those who moved to america took the tradition with them.

nowadays, most people celebrate halloween but only for fun. they are not worried about ghosts.

kids in america will dress up as devils or angels and will go from house to house calling "trick or treat", playing mischievous tricks and getting sweets.

americans spend more money on halloween than christmas! in xx, more than hk$45 billion was spent on halloween. and hk$15 billion of that was spent on candy alone!!!

kids in britain also dress up at halloween. they visit houses, sing songs or tell a joke to get sweets. many go to halloween parties and play games like "ducking for apples". you must pick up an apple in water but you can only use your mouth. try it!

What is your favorite kind of music? Do you like jazz, popular music,

classical music, folk songs, blues, and so on? In high school I took one course

called music appreciation which I greatly enjoyed. This was not to learn how to

play a specific instrument but to learn how to read and listen to music as an

art form. We read the stories about the lives of many composers and the history

of the musical instruments themselves. Sometimes we listened to tapes at the

language laboratory, or concerts. Music is sometimes called a universal

language. A composer who cannot speak a single word of our language can make us

feel joy and pride, exaltation and despair, peace and mystery through his

music.

Smoe people say that money is the best thing in the world. But I consider

reading books as the best and the most precious thing one can ever have.

Reading books is very important. First of all, it is knowledge that makes

society develop and by reading books you can get all kinds of knowledge.

Furthemore, reading books makes you a qualified person and makes your life

enjoyable.

One is never too old to learn. No matter what time you rcalize the

importance of reading books, you can enjoy it during the rest of your life time.

It was Mother’s Day. Sun Zheng thought he should do something for his

mother. He decided to help his mother do some housework. After school he went to

a shop to buy some food on his way home.

When he got home, he did his best to cook some nice food,though he couldn’t

do the cooking well. Thenhe cleaned the room. He felt very tired, but he was

very happy.

When his father and his mother came back and saw the clean rooms and dishes

which weren’t so nice, they were very happy.They had their supper together. His

mother said, "Thank you,my child!"

We can see such signs as “No Smoking” in some public places, which is a

kind of measure taken to ban smoking in public places. However, concerning about

this measures, different people hold divergent opinions. The smokers protest

against that it is a kind of action to deprive of their free right, while the

non-smokers are in favor of banning smoking in public places.

In my opinion, I am inclined to support the latter one—smoking should be

banned in public places. There are reasons accounting for my point. For one

thing, people will be harmed by the second-hand smoking if someone smokes in

public places, especially the infants and children. For another, banning smoking

in public places is also beneficial to the smokers. If they are banned to smoke

in public places, they will restrain themselves from smoking and smoke less. In

the meantime, it is a contribution to reduce the air pollution.

Therefore, I advocate that smoking in public places should be banned so

that we can breathe the fresh air and suffer less from the second-hand smoking.

Let’s work together to create and sustain out green and fresh environment.

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment。

There were few people on the earth， and natural resources seemed to be

unlimited。

Today things are different。 The world has bee too crowded。 We are using up

our natural resources，and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals。 If

we continue to do this， human life on earth will not survive。

We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea， there will soon be

none left。 Yet，with modern fishing methods， more and more fish are caught。We

know that if too many trees are cut down， forests will disappear。 Yet， we

We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate， in a

few years， there wont be enough food。What can we do to solve these

problems?

If we eat more vegetables and less meat， there will be more food available。

Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are

kept。

Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them。

The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods

of birth control。

Finally， if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a

better and cleaner planet in the future。

I had a very rich winter vacation this year.

At the time of the holiday, my mother was going to work. I was at home in

the daytime. My mother just went home for lunch at noon. Mother said, do things

tight and loose. I hope to finish my homework earlier, so I basically follow the

schedule of school, but I didnt get up early when I got up in the morning. When

I was at school, I had to get up before dawn. In a few days, I finished the

written homework assigned by the teacher, and the rest is to recite Tang poetry

Dragon Boat Festival is the traditional day in China, it is on the 5th day

of the 5th lunar month. The common activity for different places are dragon boat

competition and eating zongzi. In my hometown, there will be the dragon boat

competition every year. A lot of teams join this activity and there are full of

audiences stand on the river side, wathing and yelling for the teams. It is one

fo the biggest matches in my hometown. What’ more, making zongzi is also the

tradition. My mother makes the zongzi at this time every year, she told me that

she learned it from my grandma and she would teach me in the future.

Recently, the movies about the old people happen to have the magic and then

come back to their 20 years old time are very popular. The old people do all

kinds of crazy things that they never have the chance to do. These movies tell

people that given another chance, they will do whatever they want to do. I

always hear my parents said when they retired, they could carry out all kinds of

their plans and enjoyed the life. In my opinion, when we are young , we shuold

enjoy our moment and chase our dream. It is a little to carry out the plans when

we are old. Youth is the advantages.

Nowadays, some discussions about the childrens education and management

have raised the whole social concern. It seems not only about childrens

personal development, but also about the whole countrys future.

There are two main views in debate, which of them is that children should

obey the rules set by parents and teachers. The other is that less control will

help children to deal with their future adult life.

As for the former, the advantages of it seem to be very apparent, which of

them is that children can make a distinction between right and wrong things. And

they will have a sense of principle and responsibility. Of course, the

disadvantages are also very clear. Firstly, children will be lacking in

imagination and creation. Secondly, they cannot make up their mind on their

own.

Concerning the latter, the view seems to be reasonable because in this ways

these children are more clever and active to create something special. However,

the drawbacks couldnt be ignored as a result of a problem that children cannot

get a clear understanding of their lifetime.

Combining the both points, as far as Im concerned, parents and teachers

are supposed to instruct children to obey the primary principle when they do

some deeds. Moreover, children need more freedom to realize their dreams. Only

in this way can the problem be solved perfectly.

In conclusion, we cant only support one side simply. On the contrary, we

ought to choose different measures to educate children flexibly.

There are many different beliefs about the origin of the Lantern Festival.

But one thing for sure is that it had something to do with celebrating and

cultivating positive relationship between people, families, nature and the

higher beings they believed were responsible for bringing/returning the light

each year.

One legend tells us that it was a time to worship Taiyi, the God of Heaven

in ancient times. The belief was that the God of Heaven controlled the destiny

of the human world. He had sixteen dragons at his beck and call and he decided

when to inflict drought, storms, famine or pestilence upon human beings.

Beginning with Qinshihuang, the first emperor to unite the country, all the

emperors ordered splendid ceremonies each year. The emperor would ask Taiyi to

bring favorable weather and good health to him and his people. Emperor Wudi of

the Han Dynasty directed special attention to this event. In 104 BC, he

proclaimed it as one of the most important celebrations and the ceremony would

last throughout the night. They clean it all up in the morning.

Another legend associates the Lantern Festival with Taoism. Tianguan is the

Taoist god responsible for good fortune. His birthday falls on the 15th day of

the first lunar month. It is said that Tianguan likes all types of

entertainment, so followers prepare various kinds of activities during which

they pray for good fortune.

Yet another common legend dealing with the origins of the Lantern Festival

speaks of a beautiful bird that flew down to earth from heaven, which was hunted

and killed by some villagers. This angered the Jade Emperor in Heaven because

the bird was his favorite one. Therefore, he planned a storm of fire to destroy

the village on the 15th lunar day. The Jade Emperors daughter heard of this

plan, and warned the villagers of her father’s plan to destroy their village.

The village was in turmoil because nobody knew how should they escape their

imminent destruction.

However, a wise man from another village suggested that every family should

hang red lanterns around their houses, set up bonfires on the streets, and

explode firecrackers on the 14th, 15th, and 16th lunar days. This would give the

village the appearance of being on fire to the Jade Emperor. On the 15th lunar

day, troops sent down from heaven whose mission was to destroy the village saw

that the village was already ablaze, and returned to heaven to report to the

Jade Emperor. Satisfied, the Jade Emperor decided not to burn down the village.

From that day on, people celebrate the anniversary on the 15th lunar day every

year by carrying red lanterns on the streets and exploding firecrackers and

fireworks.

There are many stories on how this festival was created. One other story is

about a maid. In the Han Dynasty, Mr. Eastern was a favorite advisor of the

emperor. One winter day, he went to the garden and heard a little girl crying

and getting ready to jump into a well to commit suicide. Mr. Eastern stopped her

and asked why. She said she was a maid in the emperors palace and her name was

Yuan-Xiao.

She never had the chance to meet her family after she started worked at the

palace. She missed them so much every 12th lunar month. If she couldnt have the

chance to show her filial piety in this life, she would rather die. Mr. Eastern

promised her to find a way so she could reunion with her family. Mr. Eastern

left the palace and set up a fortune-telling stall on the street and disguised

himself as a fortuneteller. Because of his reputation, many people asked for

their fortunes.

But every one got the same prediction - a severe fire accident on the 15th

lunar day. The rumor spread quickly. Everyone was worried about the future and

asked Mr. Eastern for help. Mr. Eastern said, "On the 13th lunar day, the God of

Fire will send a fairy lady in red to burn down the city. If you see a lady in

red wearing green pants riding a black horse on that day, you should ask for her

mercy." On that day, Yuan-Xiao pretended to be the red fairy lady. When people

asked for her help, she said, "Im the messenger of the God of Fire and came to

check on the city and Im going to set up fire on 15th. This is an order from

Jade Emperor. He will watch from the heavens.

I will give you a copy of the imperial decree from the God of Fire. You

should go to ask your emperor to find a way out." After she left, people went to

the palace to show the emperor the decree which reads "The capital city is in

trouble. Fire burns on the palace, and fire from Heaven burns all night long on

the 15th." The emperor of Han Dynasty was very shocked. He called and asked Mr.

Eastern for advice. After pondering for a while, Mr. Eastern said, "I heard that

the God of Fire likes to eat Tang-Yuan (Sweet dumpling). Does Yuan-Xiao often

cook Tang-Yuan for you? On the 15th lunar day, let Yuan-Xiao make Tang-Yuan.

Your Majesty will take charge of the worshipping ceremony and you will give

an order to every house to prepare Tang-Yuan to worship the God of Fire at the

same time. Also, deliver another order to ask every house in the city to hang

red lantern and explode fire crackers. Lastly, everyone in the palace and people

outside the city should carry their lanterns on the street to watch the lantern

decoration and fireworks. If everything goes this way, the Jade Emperor would be

deceived.

Then everyone can avoid the fire accident." The emperor happily followed

the plan. Lanterns were everywhere in the capital city on the night of the 15th

lunar day. People were walking on the street. Fire crackers kept making lots of

noise. It looked like the entire city was on fire. Yuan-Xiaos parents went into

the palace to watch the lantern decorations, and Yuan-Xiao made a big lantern

and wrote her name on the lantern. They happily reunited together after her

parents called her name. Everybody was safe during the night. The emperor of Han

Dynasty had a new order that people should do the same thing every year. Since

Yuan-Xiao cooked the best Tan-Yuan, people called the day Yuan-Xiao

Festival.

Young people were chaperoned in the streets in hopes of finding love.

Matchmakers acted busily in hopes of pairing couples. The brightest lanterns

were symbolic of good luck and hope. As time has passed, the festival no longer

has such implications.

Those who do not carry lanterns often enjoy watching informal lantern

parades. In addition to eating tangyuan (simplified Chinese: 汤圆; traditional

Chinese: 湯圓; pinyin: tāngyuán), another popular activity at this festival is

guessing lantern riddles (which became part of the festival during the Tang

Dynasty), which often contain messages of good fortune, family reunion, abundant

harvest, prosperity and love.

Honesty is pay attention to all aspects of, business, work, life,

friends... All want to pay attention to integrity, people need good faith

many factors leading that result. In my view, the most important factor is the

difference of confidence, determination and sociability are the foundation and

condition of success.

First of all, no matter who want to success, they must have confidence, as

confidence is the basic need for success. If someone always thinks he can’t do

this or that well, then he can’t finish it well. For example, when a person is

being interviewed, if he doesn’t believe he can do that job well, how can he act

believable, so how can the interviewers trust his ability? Therefore, the

interview is obviously a failure. However, if a person is confident, he can

receive the opportunity to prepare for every challenge easily, which makes

success become closer.

In addition, confidence just the door for success, if someone wants to get

into the house of success, determination is necessary. The determined meet

difficulties always overcome it and insist to the end. On the other hand, if

someone is not determined, he would give up when facing difficulty. For

instance, when doing homework, the person who is not determined always can’t

finish perfectly and even copy from others when he thinks that homework is hard

to finish. However, the person who is determined always can finish it well,

because he know what he really wants and he is able to carry on.

The last but not least is that no one can do anything well by themselves,

so they need help. At that time, sociable is helpful. It is well-known that

success is hard to reach. Therefore, people need others to help them. A sociable

person can get help easily, as he has so many friends. On the other side, a

person is not good at communication, when he gets in trouble, maybe no one helps

him. So we can see the importance of sociability to success.

In a word, there maybe not only confidence, determination, and sociability

are essential to success, but I think they are the most important ones, for they

are the foundation and condition of success.

Nowadays, more and more people realize the harm of smoking and the damage

it bring to the people around us. Considered the health of people themseves and

the one they care, many smokers try their best to give up smoking. When quiting

smoking, I have some suggestions. First of all, people should have strong will

on giving up smoking. Personal determination is the most important factor. When

feeling eager to smoke, people should think about the damage of smoking and the

people they love. And then they can strengthen their will not to smoke.

Secondly, sweep away all the cigarette around. They can’t find any cigarette

when they want to smoke. And then after a while, their wants for smoke will

reduce gradually. Last but not least, prepare some candies in the pocket, when

people want to smoke, eat candies instead. Hope every smoker succeed in the

end.

Chinahas a very long and brilliant history, whose people are so friendly

and hospitable. But I am wondering why some people pay such little attention to

the environment and nature. In many places of the countryside, rivers have

become stinking sewers and brooks have disappeared. Heaps of garbage obstructs

the scarce flow of dirty water. The grounds are littered with plastic bottles

and bags. People are cutting down trees even though it is illegal. In some

towns, rubbish is hidden behind walls. Garbage cans are often of little use,

making cleaners must rush all day long and also by night to clean the

rubbish.

This lack of consideration for nature in general is extremely detrimental

to children’s education, toChina’s image, to public health, to tourism and to

the future.Chinais the common treasure of all Chinese, and we should live up to

be a member of this big family, a descendant of 5000-year-plus ancient civilized

country. I think the environment must absolutely be strictly protected by all

means. This protection should go at the same pace as the marvelous development

of the nation.

In this respect,Germanyis a rare model and leaves me a very deep

impression. After you have an exciting tour around in this country for a week or

so, it is unnecessary for you to polish your leather shoes. Personally, first of

all, the strong awareness of people’s environmental protection; then, the

advanced technology applied in the field of preserving the nature; We can learn

form others in building China into one of the most environmentally friendly

places in the world.

The environment of the city is getting worse and worse today. There are wastes, air pollution and so on. What can we do to save our city? About the wastes, we should sort the wastes, to see if they can be recycle used; use the reusable shopping bag instead of the plastic bags. About the air pollution, we should go to school on foot or by bike; we should also ask our family not to use car as much as possible, take the subway or bus instead. I hope everyone can see the environment problem and do the best to save our city.

As for the celebrities, they use the developed technology to keep young, seeing

their unchangeable faces in the screen for so many years, the audience also want

to imitate the celebrity, they believe that by using the developed technology,

they can keep young all the time. While in my opinion, the way to keep young is

to hold a young heart, some people look young outside, but in their hearts, they

are old enough and refuse to keep pace with the time. While for another group,

even they have wrinkles, they are curious about all the things and are willing

to change. My grandpa is old, but he knows all the fashionable things, sometimes

I have to ask him for the new things. The young heart is the way to keep young

forever.

When we were children, we often say that I want to grow up, or I want to be

an adult. As children, we cannot do many things, while after we grow up, we can.

However, we often complain that I don’t want to grow up when we become adults

actually.

Firstly, growing up means more responsibilities. We should make a living by

ourselves or we should support our parents when they can’t earn enough money to

make a living.

Econdly, after graduation, we need to work instead of accomplishing

nothing. We should have a target and work for it, so we have pressure on

jobs.

Every coin has two sides. Grow up can also broaden our horizon, offer us an

opportunity to know more about our world, love and protect the important person

in our life. Don’t be afraid of growing up, just be a better person and enjoy

our life.
