So we need to make a new years resolution in order to the second year will be better. I want to share my new years resolution with you. I’m LiHua, president of the Student Union. I’m writing to invite you to our Dragon Boat Festival celebration, which is to be held in the Lecture Hall at 14:00 next Monday.

The Duanwu or Dragon Boat Festival, generally celebrated on the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calender, falls on June 18 this year. It is one of the oldest festivals in China, with a history of more than 2,000 years. Legend holds that this festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet during the Warring States Period.

In the celebration, you can enjoy a performance about that legend and watch live broadcast of dragon boat racing. In the meanwhile, varieties of Zongzi, an essential food for this unique occasion, are available, which take different shapes and various fillings. Come and join us!

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to not judge

things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest，in turn，to go and look at a

pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter，the second in the spring，the third in

summer，and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back，he called them together to describe

what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly，bent，and twisted. The second son

said no - it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed，he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so

sweet and looked so beautiful，it was the most graceful thing he had ever

seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them;he said it was ripe and drooping

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right，because they

had each seen but one season in the tree‘s life. He told them that you cannot

judge a tree，or a person，by only one season，and that the essence of who they are

- and the pleasure，joy，and love that come from that life - can only be measured

at the end，when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it‘s winter，you will miss the promise of your

spring，the beauty of your summer，fulfillment of your fall. Don’t let the pain of

With the development of living standards, going out to have a tourism is becoming a part of our life. But at the same time, uncivilized behaviors in tourism are frequently happening. So cultural tourism has became a hot topic in the society.

Especially in vacations, phenomena of uncivilized behavior in parks or museums everywhere. The Dragon Boat Festival comes from the story of qu yuan, a patriotic poet qu yuan out a good idea to rich countries qiangming, but not adopted by the king, he was kicked out of the palace. Qu yuan was so angry that he jumped into the miluo river. The local fisherman learned that he rowed a boat to the miluo river to the miluo river. Later, the bamboo tube was changed to zongzi, and the boat was changed to the dragon boat to commemorate qu yuan. Before making zongzi, she prepared herself: boil the leaves of the reeds in the water and wash them separately. When the reed leaves were cold, she began to make zongzi. Her first three leaf, this three leaves into a cone, then put a date first, and then put on inside glutinous rice, middle to clip a few dates, the last thread tied leaves, a rice dumplings wrapped. Her dumplings are fat and big, like the old Buddha sleeping. After the dumplings have finished, mom put them in a pressure cooker for 40 minutes, then another three or four hours to make it taste and then eat it! My mothers dumplings are very fragrant, so that when I see the zongzi, I will eat them. So, when eating zongzi, I always eat a lot!

fashion industry. Animal skin has been used to make fashionable clothes and

these clothes sell at a high price. So some greedy people begin to kill animals

in a large quantity. This irresponsible behavior not only breaks the balance of

nature but also endangers the living environment of human beings.

As far as I am concerned, something must be done to stop this illegal

action. We believe "no buying, no killing". First, we must make concerning laws

to protect these animals in danger. Second, we must take some measures to

protect animals effectively. Animals are our friends and part of our

environment. Third, we should raise peoples awareness to protect animals and

our environment. In this way, we can build a harmonious society and ensure a

sustainable development.

Oh, do you think this boy is really ill-looking? He is my classmate in school. His name is Dai Shunxin. Do you think his face just likes a piece of square and white paper? He looks very poor. A funny thing happened during the summer vacation.

Since I went to high school, I have had many annoyances.

On the one hand, I am under great pressure on my study. I need to take the exams every month. Once I am falling behind other students, I will feel that I am not doing well. I always want to be the best, but things can’t go on my way. On the other hand, I don’t want to talk to my parents, if they ask me the questions, I will answer them with few words. A library is a building for a collection or books, magazines, periodicals

and newspapers. The books are kept on the shelves in the stack room whereas the

magazines, journals, etc. in the reading rooms. Modern libraries also have xerox

rooms, and computer rooms.

If you want to borrow books, you can go to the loan desk, look over the

correct call numbers in the card catalog and ask the librarian to take then, out

for you. Or youre allowed to enter the stack room to rind books for yourself,

you can look up the bound volume or index for the articles relative to the

subject, on which you are going to write thesis. If the library doesnt

subscribe to the magazine which carries the article you want, you can borrow the

magazine from other libraries by means of interlibrary loan service.

Dont forget to show your library card or I.D. card to the librarian before

you go into the reading room, where you can read magazines or newspapers. If you

find a good article and want to keep it, you can have it duplicated in the xerox

room. Besides, if you want to watch films or slides, you can ask the

projectionist to play the videotape for you in the audio visual room, where you

can also listen to language tapes and music tapes.

I love my home full of laughter.

My dream home is an old castle in France. There are at least thirty rooms in it. It has three floors.

There is a big sitting room and dining room on the ground floor. It must have a very large window on the ground floor. I can look out of the window.

The Chinese New Year has a great history. In our past, people lived in an agricultural society and worked all year long. They only took a break after the harvest and before the planting of seeds. This happens to coincide with the beginning of the lunar New Year.

The Chinese New Year is very similar to the Western one, rich in traditions, folklores and rituals. It has been said that it is a combination of the Western Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. This is hardly an exaggeration!

The origin of the Chinese New Year itself is centuries old - in fact, too old to actually be traced. It is popularly recognized as the Spring Festival and celebrations last 15 days.

Preparations tend to begin a month before the date of the Chinese New Year (similar to a Western Christmas). During this time people start buying presents, decoration materials, food and clothing. A huge clean-up gets underway days before the New Year, when Chinese houses are cleaned from top to bottom. This ritual is supposed to sweep away all traces of bad luck. Doors and windowpanes are often given a new coat of paint, usually red, then decorated with paper cuts and couplets with themes such as happiness, wealth and longevity printed on them.

The end of the New Year is marked by the Festival of Lanterns, which is a celebration with singing, dancing and lantern shows.

At the Festival, all traditions are honored. The predominant colors are red and gold. "Good Wish" banners are hung from the ceilings and walls. The "God of Fortune" is there to give Hong Baos. Lion dancers perform on stage continuously. Visitors take home plants and flowers symbolizing good luck. An array of New Years specialty food is available in the Food Market. Visitors purchase new clothing, shoes and pottery at the Market Fair. Bargaining for the best deal is commonplace!

Since I went to middle school, I grew up very fast. On the one hand, I live

in school from Monday to Friday, so I need to learn to get along with roommates.

We share the cleaning work to make sure a good environment. It is everybodys

duty to sweep the floor on turn. On the other hand, I need to solve the problems

from life by myself. Without parents by my side all the time, I learn to face

troubles and figure out all the ways to solve them. I become much independent

and stronger. Now I can deal with my stuff alone.
