Turn Off the Lights

Turn down all of the lights in your home. Its a little strange sitting around in the dark, but its only for one hour. Just think of what it must have been like before the invention of the light bulb!

Unplug Lamps and Nightlights

Unplug Clocks and Electronics

Thanksgiving Day is the most truly American of the national Holidays in the United States and is most closely connected with the earliest history of the country.

In 1620, the settlers, or Pilgrims, they sailed to America on the May flower, seeking a place where they could have freedom of worship. After a tempestuous two-month voyage they landed at in icy November, what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts.During their first winter, over half of the settlers died of starvation or epidemics. Those who survived began sowing in the first spring.

All summer long they waited for the harvests with great anxiety, knowing that their lives and the future existence of the colony depended on the coming harvest. Finally the fields produced a yield rich beyond expectations. And therefore it was decided that a day of thanksgiving to the Lord be fixed . Years later, President of the United States proclaimed the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day every year. The celebration of Thanksgiving Day has been observed on that date until today.

The pattern of the Thanksgiving celebration has never changed through the years. The big family dinner is planned months ahead. On the dinner table, people will find apples, oranges, chestnuts, walnuts and grapes. There will be plum pudding, mince pie, other varieties of food and cranberry juice and squash. The best and most attractive among them are roast turkey and pumpkin pie. They have been the most traditional and favorite food on Thanksgiving Day throughout the years.

Everyone agrees the dinner must be built around roast turkey stuffed with a bread dressing to absorb the tasty juices as it roasts. But as cooking varies with families and with the regions where one lives, it is not easy to get a consensus on the precise kind of stuffing for the royal bird.

Thanksgiving today is, in every sense, a national annual holiday on which Americans of all faiths and backgrounds join in to express their thanks for the year s bounty and reverently ask for continued blessings.

i have spent fifteen years in my life. so, this is my ninth year to study. by the way, my name is wengjingru. my father thought hard about my name. he consulted the dictionary two times to find how to name me. of course, this name is very good and i like it very much.

sometimes i think i am a little strange. because i often think the world isn’t full of happiness. and i want to be different from others. i hate superficial people. but always i am very out-going and kind to others. i can’t say ‘no’ to others. so i don’t know how to refuse.

i can’t see i am a pretty girl, but i am not an ugly person, either. i am very general. i can’t say too much about my appearance.

in this term, i make a little progress in my study. in my life, i have my parents’ love, and many, many people’s love. i am happy. i achieved so much, and i also lost so much.

my star sign is aquarius. it represents kindness and wisdom. but i don’t think i am such a clever person. maybe i am modest. aquarius has many friends. it also says that some people think i am strange because i hate to be like others. i try to do everything differently.

i like yellow the most. yellow is the color of the sun, it can remind me of a warm, sunny day. yellow is also the color of wisdom. and i like it because it is one of the colors that are vivid.

of course, most students have problems in their study. i don’t know how to make progress. i think i should work harder. that is the only way.

i like reading very much. my favorite writer is guojingming. and now i am reading a book called ‘gone with wind’. i keep reading half an hour every day.

i like english and chinese best. i want to establish an english club. i want everyone to speak english in the daily life.

In the State of Lu, there was a couple of husband and wife, the former being an expert shoemaker and the latter a skilled hand in wearing taffeta. One day after consultations they decided to go to the state of Yue to earn a livelihood. The neighbors advised them not to go when they learned about their plan. "Dont go there," said one neighbor, "If you go, you can never earn a livelihood."

The people of Yue dont wear shoes, for they are barefooted. Again, they like to have their hair spread out over their heads and they never use hats. To whom should you sell your shoes and hats then?" Experienced though you are in the arts, yet the arts you have mastered are useless there."

After this explanation, the husband and wife now understood that anything that was not adaptable to the objective world would be useless and unpractical.

摘 要

说明文，是以说明为主要表达方式，来介绍和说明事物或事理的文章。它在中学语文教学中占有相当重要的地位。然而从传统教学中，我们感觉教学说明文时，课堂气氛是死水1潭，学生是昏昏欲睡，教学效果就可想而知了。因此，怎样改进说明文的教学方法，提高学生学习说明文的兴趣，是中学语文教师不断研究、探讨的重要课题。本文将依据中学语文教学大纲，结合心理学中关于中学生的心理特征，在全面阐述说明文教学内容的基础上，重点探讨如何让学生克服学习说明文呆板、枯燥的心理障碍，调动学生学习说明文的热情，提高说明文的教学效果的几种方法。

ABSTRACT

Expository writing, is used for introducing and explaining the article of the things or reason by way of proving in order to mainly express. It occupies quite important position in the Chinese teaching of middle school. But from traditional teaching, when we feel teaching expository writing, the atmosphere of the classroom is stagnant water and a pool, students are drowsy, the teaching result can be well imagined. So what a teaching method of improving the expository writing, improving students interest to study expository writing, it is the important subject that the gentle teacher of language of middle school is studying and probing into constantly. This text will combine the psychological characteristics about the middle school student in psychology, according to the Chinese syllabus of middle school, on the basis of explaining content of courses of expository writing in an all-round way, discuss especially how to overcome the psychological obstacle that students think the expository writing stiff, uninteresting, arouse students enthusiasm to study expository writing, several kinds of methods to improve teaching result of the expository writing.

last sunday my classmates and i went to xiangshan park.

we met at 7 oclock at the school gate. the weather in beijing that day was great. at around 8 oclock, we arrived at xiangshan park. there is a high tree on the bottom of the hill. we had a party and played games under the tree. then we climbed to the top of xiangshan mountain. it was not very difficult for us to do it. next, we had lunch at the top of the hill. it was delicious. after lunch, we saw some birds. they were friendly. and we saw a whole picture of beijing. "what a beautiful city!" i said. at that moment, we all felt so proud. i live in beijing now. the 2008 olympic games was held here.
