“可以为师矣”亦有两解：一为这样的人才可以之为师;二为自己做到这个程度，才可以为人师。前者在着重知人，后者强调修己，这两解意义并不相同，虽然兼备这两重的意义，可使得本章更为完整，但如果站在前述“师”的意义之角度来看，可能还是以修己的自我期许来解较为妥适。
