Honesty is always of great concern to us things, whether in the past or now. Honesty is always our traditional virtue, but now there are many dishonest phenomena appeared in our life. As is shown above ,in front of a pile of so-called “famous brand” fake leather shoes stands a business man, asking an old man “what are you looking for ” , with a reply from the old man---honesty. Simple as the picture is, it does demonstrate certain thought-provoking social phenomenon. The picture tells us that the credibility remains to be an integral(完整的)part in our society, especially in the commercial world. By gaining credibility , people and organization can make money , take profits and even obtain wealth.

According to the news, China students Chaoran Sunat who had a bachelors degree in electronic engineering of America Purdue University ,at the age of 25 now, was recently sentenced to 4 years in prison, on charges of invasion of Professor’s computer to tamper results of him and other students. After the incident, he lost his bachelors degree from Purdue University, was also expelled from the Boston University Institute, can only rely on the handyman to earn living expenses in the restaurant, and the annual salary reduced from $70000 to $1500. The West pays more attention to integrity than China. As far as I am concerned, on one hand, if this had happened in China, the most he was cancelled degree, but not be sentenced. On the other hand, it is also very difficult to find a decent job after he came out of prison. However, in China, by virtue of his computer technology level, he can get a decent job, even to be the boss. In spite of this, with the development of economy, peoples life level improved, and continuous improvement of moral construction, credit system will be constructed, which lead Chinese will pay more and more attention to honesty.

When it comes to honesty, quite a lot of people believe it is essential to

a person’s character and success.

They base their idea on the following reasons: on one hand, successful

business owes much to mutual trust; on another hand, great people in history

such as Abraham Lincoln andGeorge Washington set us good examples of being

honest, they are great because they are honest.

Their reasons run as following: to begin with, cheating on exams is

becoming more and more popular; in addition, some singers and movie stars cheat

on taxes; last but not the least, if you are not careful enough, you’ll buy some

defective goods and fake products.

It is high time we emphasized and encouraged honesty. We can take effective

measures to restore it.

For example, kids should be taught to tell truth, strict rules and

regulations should be carried out to stop cheatings on exams and taxes, etc.

Recently, I have seen an impressive film—“Meet the Parents”, which is about

a woman Palm brought her boyfriend Greg to her parents’ home to spend holiday.

In the film, Greg was so dishonest to Palm’s parents that Palm’s father is

suspicious of his behavior and quality. As a result, Greg is obnoxious to all

and has to leave. As far as I am concerned, the consequence is heavily caused by

his dishonesty. If Greg could be real him all the time, he would get much

respect and appreciation and would not get much frustration. From the film, I

have learned that being honest was extremely important and necessary. In other

words, being honest is a basic principle for us to deal with others.

For one thing, we will not get others’ trust unless we are honest. If we

deceive others, we would get the same in return, and even no one would make

friends with us or even communicate with us. For another, we will get others’

respect and appreciation if telling the truth. Telling the truth and being

ourselves, we will get a healthy and peaceful surrounding to grow up better.

However, something strange happens in our society. There is a strange

phenomenon that honest people suffer but the dishonest benefit a lot. It made

some people have a suspicion that being honest is not so important.

But I still believe that these are just a few cases, since honesty is

deeply rooted in our minds and we still consider it as a basic principle in

social contacts.

My grandparents believed you were either honest or you werent. There was

no in between. They had a simple motto hanging on their living-room wall: "Life

is like a field of newly fallen snow; where I choose to walk every step will

show. "They didnt have to talk about it--they demonstratedthe motto by the way

they lived. They understood instinctively that integrity means having a personal

standard of morality and ethics that does not sell out to expediency and that is

not relative to the situation at hand. Integrity is an inner standard for

judging your behavior.Unfortunately, integrity is in short supply today--and

getting scarcer. But it is the real bottom line in every area of society.And it

is something we must demand of ourselves.

A good test for this value is to look at what I call the Integrity Trial,

which consists of three key principles: Stand firmly for your convictions in the

face of personal pressure.

When you know youre right, you cant back down. Always give others credit

that is rightfully theirs. Dont be afraid of those who might have a better idea

or who might even be smarter than you are. Be honest and open about who you

really are. People who lack genuine core values rely on external factors--their

looks or status---in order to feel good about themselves. Inevitably they will

do everything they can to preserve this facade,but they will do very little to

develop their inner value and personal growth.

So be yourself. Dont engage in a personal cover-up of areas that are

unpleasing in your life. When its tough, do it tough. In other words, face

reality and be adult in your responses to lifes challenges.

Self-respect and a clear conscience are powerful components of integrity

and are the basis for enriching your relationships with others.

Integrity means you do what you do because its right and not just

fashionable or politically correct. A life of principle, of not succumbing to

the seductive sirens of an easy morality,will always win the day. My

grandparents taught me that.

People always attach the importance to the promise, they hate people who

break their promise. I remember once a time, my friend asked me to go to see the

movie with her, I said yes without hesitation. But on that day, I forgot about

the date, I just woke up late and then played computer games in my bedroom. My

friends called me, she asked why did I disappear, I said I was sleeping at home,

she became very angry, until then did I think about our date. I felt so sorry, I

break my promise for the first time, I realize I did the very bad thing. Even

though I apologized for many times, my friend was still angry with me. I learn

the lesson, promise is very important, we must keep it, other people will see

through our personality to decide what kind of person we are.

Once upon a time, I did not pay for my bill when I bought a pen, because

the boss forgot to charge me, so I pretended to not realize it and just walk

away with the pen. Many years passed, every time when I think of it, I will be

ashamed of myself, I lost the important thing once, but I will not lose it

again.

The merit of honesty occupies great importance today. In the old time,

without the camera’s supervisor, people kept their honesty according to their

self-consciousness. It seems that if they are not honest, they would not get any

punishment. But today, as the technology develops, people are supervised by the

high-technologies all the time, once they are caught cheating, their files will

have the spot, which affect their career badly.

We are living in the modern life, we need to self-behaved, what we do is

under the invisible cameras’ watching. Even we make the small mistake, we will

be recorded without noticed. What we do decides what kind of person we are, so

let’s be an honest person all the time.

A boy went to a shop and bought a pencil and other things. When he was

going to pay the bill, he took out his wallet and found he had not enough money

to pay. He felt awkward. At that moment, an old man who was in charge of the

shop smiled and said to the boy that he could give the rest of the money next

time. The boy was so shocked, as the old man trusted him so much. When the boy

went home, he remembered it all the time. So the next morning, when he passed

the shop, he gave the money without hesitation. Integrity is priceless and

decides who we are.

Today, with the development of Internet, many traditional ways of life have

been changed, especially the way to pay for purchase. The record of credit

occupies important role for everybody, and they need good credit to get loan, so

as to start their business or buy a house. We have come to the age of

credit.

There is a very classic example about the importance of credit. A Chinese

man took the train in Europe. He found no one checked the ticket, so he just

skipped the ticket. He thought he had saved the little money, but when he came

to the bank and wanted to get the loan, he got rejected, because his record of

credit showed he had skipped the ticket, which made him the unreliable man.

The record of credit is the main basis when people asked for loan. The

banks consider the account of money they would borrow according to the credit,

or the departments will check a person’s credit to see if they want to hire him.

The age of credit asks for us to behave ourselves well, or we will live the

tough life.

The end of the term is coming soon. All the students are preparing for the

final exam. Some students want to get the high mark by playing some tricks.

There is no meaning to do this. Honesty is very important, because it decides

what kind of person we will be. So we should behave ourselves well and our

parents will be proud of us.

4月16日上午，CCTV“希望之星”英语风采大赛湘潭赛区复赛在我们东方红学校举行。

我去的时候比赛已经开始了，只见向思璐站在上面紧张地表演着，带动着我也紧张了起来。我一看序号，呀！马上就到我了，于是我赶到座位上，其他同学都全神贯注地看着表演者，我也自作镇定的等待着。

啊，马上就到我了，我再也掩饰不住那紧张的情绪，心在不停“咚咚，咚咚”地跳着。轮到我上场了，我怀着激动而忐忑不安的心情走上了讲台。我首先敬了个礼，做了自我介绍，然后开始有声有色的表演我的节目，英语小故事《AGOODBOY》。我平复一下自己的情绪，然后流利地讲着我的故事，边讲还边做动作，仿佛进入了天真的情境。评委老师专注地听着我的故事，不时用笔记一下什么，我看到一位评委老师的眼睛里露出了一点笑意，我如释重负。我的表演结束了，回答完老师的问题后，敬了个礼，便退场了。

比赛结束后，在回家的路上妈妈接到电话：“您的孩子成功突围，晋级决赛了。”我知道后，高兴地跳了起来，此时此刻，我想起了之前努力的情形：到老师家上完辅导课后，回家一遍又一遍的练习，经常练到晚上9点多……这些都是值得的。我现在最要感谢的是爸爸、妈妈还有那位辅导老师。

正所谓：功夫不负有心人。我从这次比赛中明白了一个道理：只要有辛苦的付出，就会有更好地回报，我要继续认真准备，争取在决赛中取得好的成绩。

就在上周周日，我们海伦教育举办了第四届海伦杯英语大赛，我报了英语，虽然练习不是很难，但我还是要努力复习英语，争取考个好成绩。

开始考试了，我非常紧张，因为我们要听写80个单词和十个句子。一声哨下，考试开始了。老师把卷子发给我们，开始念广播，广播要念30分钟时间，给我们的时间并不多，所以我们要抓紧了，实际我很紧张，心里给自己加着油，我一定要坚持到最后。

念到第75个单词的时候，我不会了，我还没想上五秒钟，老师就开始念下一个单词了，我只能把这个单词放弃了。但下一个单词很少，我们还有15秒写的时间，于是我用多余的时间来把上一个单词补了，考试在一分一秒地进行着，同学们都非常紧张，也非常认真。老师瞪着一双大眼睛，走来走去地盯着我们，台下的我们当然不敢抄袭了。突然，老师说还剩十分钟了，我们都开始检查卷子了，因为这次报名花费了五十元，所以我非常认真地在检查，检查了一遍又一遍，检查出了三个错误。我刚把错误改好，老师突然又说：“同学们，该交卷了。”老师的一句话把我惊呆了，时间过得好快呀！

想再检查几遍的我只好交了卷，走出教室，向回家的方向走去。心里暗暗的想，我一定要得名次，一定要打进决赛，我一定要得奖。为妈妈争光，为自己争气，不要让老师失望。

一年一度的诚信大赛拉开了帘幕。报名者成千上万。

第一轮参赛者是孔雀，补锅匠，纸姑娘。这次诚信大赛非常有意思。主持人暗中调查三位选手从目的地到比赛场地的路线，并派出三位忠实的仆人在比赛当天观察选手们的一举一动。

比赛当天，选手们很快就出发了。仆人们在三位选手来的路上各放了一颗金光闪闪的宝石。孔雀大摇大摆的来到了公园。只见，公园里，绿油油的草坪上有一个闪闪发光的东西。孔雀飞一般跑过去捡起它。心里沾沾自喜：我靠，这竟是一颗宝石。鸟王我竟然捡到了宝石。这真是老天有眼，老天一定是看我这么辛苦的当乌王，赐给我一个宝贝了。于是，孔雀将宝石据为己有。躲在墙后面的仆人看到了这一切，气冲冲的回去顶报主持人。

补锅匠出了门，瞧，家门口不远处，他也看见了一颗宝石。补锅匠心动了，奋不顾身的跑过去捡起宝石，警觉的望了望四周，瞪大双眼仔细的看了又看宝石，心想：哼哼，以前我受了那么多罪，现在可以享福了。隐藏在树后面的仆人咬了咬牙，也回去报告了。

紧接着，纸姑娘也来到广场上，看见了宝石，便向四处张望，大声叫：“有人吗？”谁丢了一颗贵重的宝石？”没有人回应。纸姑娘只好捡起宝石，坐在椅子上等待。时间过得真快，眨眼间，诚信大赛马上就要开始了。姑娘急得像热锅上的蚂蚁，：“算了，我再等等吧！”仆人笑着点点头，叫人先派辆车豪车来，仆人坐上车，开向纸姑娘，把纸姑姑送到诚信大赛的场的。

紧接着，仆人走到主持人身边，说了几句话。于是，主持人让选手们说出来这里的经历。孔雀和补锅匠做了亏心事，便结结巴巴地编了一串串谎言。唯独纸姑娘说出了实话。

主持人高声宣布：“这次诚信大赛的冠军是纸姑娘……”主持人又把事情的经历说了一遍。孔雀补锅匠羞愧的地低下头。

星期五，我们学校举行了一次“英语课本剧大赛”。

我刚进会议室，就看到我的英语老师了，他和其他老师正在忙碌的准备比赛场地。于是，我找了一个位置坐了下来。

英语老师流利的说了几句英语，一阵热烈的掌声后，比赛开始了…哇！有好多的节目，今天下午可要大饱眼福了。节目一个接一个，我有的能听懂，有的还听不懂，不过，“小红帽”的故事已经重复五次了。

到了最后，评委老师给各个节目评分，一场口语比赛圆满的落幕了。

我回到了教室，脑海里一直回想刚才出口成章的口语故事。心想：如果我也能参加比赛，为学校争光，那多好啊！今天真是特别快乐、特别有意义的一天啊！

这周有一个非常特别的事情，就是我参加了全国奥林匹克英语大赛初赛。

周六清晨七点，我被一阵美妙的铃声吵醒，我一个鲤鱼挺出了被窝，开始快速刷牙、洗脸，接着就去了我的英语补习班——英伦外国语。

八点左右，我们和英伦老师乘坐公交车去中原领航实验学校考点考试。老师让我们先排好队，秩序井然的出了校门，坐上我们熟悉的b3路公交车，很快到达了考场。

开始考试了，我的眼睛一扫题目，哈哈，我以为有多难呢，原来这么简单！虽然我在很短时间内完成了试题，但是我还是认真检查了很多遍，直到老师收卷。

在星期天的早上，妈妈接到了学校发来的考试成绩，我已经成功晋级复赛，我非常高兴！接下来老师让我准备写一篇英语短文，迎接复赛！

我一定好好准备，争取取得更加优异的成绩！

I am a third year master major in automation at ×× University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

Education background

In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test.

At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.

Research experience and academic activityWhen a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.
