Little Women

Before I read this book, I had watched a cartoon movie made by Japan. So I have a strong interest on it.

It all begins in the dead of winter; The Christmas Season. The coldest one of all, were the war has made fuel for heating very scarce. While her husband is off at war, Marmee is left alone to raise their four daughters: Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy.

On Christmas Eve, Marmee has just arrived home from passing out food to the less fortunate with a letter from her husband, the girls father. The all gather together around the fire to read the letter. Afterwards, the girls are teary eyed. Marmee kisses them and they are off to bed.

Jo is longing to become a writer. So, every night she stays up late writing the script for soap operas. As morning comes she is the last one awake. The table is set, and food prepared for their Christmas feast.

As dusk falls, the girls are all up in the attic acting out Jos play, which she reads from the local (fake) newspaper. As they are performing, their rich, next-door neighbors grandson watches from the window.

The 2 oldest girls: Jo and Meg, get ready to attend the Christmas Ball. While Jo is curling Megs hair, there is a strange smell to the air. Amy screams, Megs hair is being singed. They continue digging through the old clothes bin for a pair of white gloves.

One of the prominent themes in Little Women is the coming of age or maturation of the girls. During the course of the novel we see them grow in many ways -- physically, intellectually, and especially emotionally. One question which readers must ask themselves is whether the views the characters have on the coming of age process are shared by Alcott. If they arent, what are Alcotts views and how do they differ from those of the women in her story?

It is interesting to examine the last half of Chapter 20, "Confidential." Jo addresses the maturation issue as she speaks with Marmee of the situation between Meg and Mr. Brooke. The possible love between these two represents one of the very important aspects in coming of age for a teenage girl. Jo treats this natural process as if it were some sort of disease, however. Jo cannot understand why Meg would want to stop behaving "like a sensible creature" (p.202), and refers to love as "such nonsense."

The Hunger Games, is written by Suzanne Collins. The central ruling city, named the capitol, holds the hunger games. Every year, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are just a nationally televised event in which Tributes must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

To my surprise, Katniss involved in the hunger games, replaces her sister to play. She moves forward with faith, and finally wins both love and the hunger games. By the way, Katniss and Peeta are the tributes from district 12. Finally, they survive to the end and return home.

In my opinion, the Hunger Games is written mainly against domination. In another word, the hunger games are the product of domination. From the growth of Katniss, I deeply impressed that she is not only minute but also representative and aspirant, for the Hunger Game is not only a game itself as a show, but also the game between the Capitol and other 12 districts. This is a game about domination and revolution. In the Hunger Games, there are many moving scenes. While peeta joins the tributes from the richer districts. However, when he has the opportunity to kill Katniss, he instead saves her from the others. But Rue skilled by another tribute, whom Katniss then kills, Katniss sings to Rue until she dies, which encourages the watching people to chase for freedom and be against domination.

Besides this, I also learn something about hope from the story. Katniss moves all the way forward with hope. She tells peeta in the arena,If we win, we will each get a house in the part of town reserved for Hunger Games’ victors。 She does not give up but does everything she can to increase the possibility of survival. As young adults, we should also have faith in our future. Ups and downs as we may face, none of them is challenging enough compared with the death threat Katniss encounters. Katniss never losed hope. Neither should we.

At the end of Hunger Games, when the couple remain last, the rule changes back. One must kill the other to win. Knowing that the gamemakers would rather have to victors than none, Katniss offer some highly poisonous berries to peeta. Realizing that Katniss and Peeta instead to commit suicide, the gamemakers announce that they both will be victors of the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss is very mature, brave and wise. She is a b role model for young girls with her character"s sacrifice, courage, moral grounding in a world that"s lost its own, and will to fight for what"s right, even if it means sacrificing her own life or sparking a revolution.

Although the reality is cruel for almost every character in the fiction, the positive side of humanity and love is always bright.

The book Wuthering Heights told us a story about love and revenge: the abandoned boy Heathdiff was adopted by Mr Eamshaw and lived with Mr Earnshaw’s son Hindley and daughter Cathiner. Hindley disliked Heathdiff. He insulted and maltreated Heathdiff in every possible way after Mr Earnshaw’s death. At the same time, peculiar emotion occurred between Cathiners and Heathdiff. Because of vanity and ignorance, Cathiner decided to mary Linton. Heathdiff left with anger. Three years later, Heathdiff returned to revenge. He succeeded in annexing all the property of Hindley’s and the Linton’s. However, Cathiner’s ghost pestered him all the time, and he died in mental disorder.

To understand Wuthering Heights, you must know the auther Amily well. She had been abnormal in inentality ever since her childhood. Her sister Charlotte had once said that Amily was even ber than a man in character, and more simple than a child. He name Heathdiff was compounded by the words Heath and Cliff, itself gave the readers a feeling of unfeelingness, which well annotated Amily’s abnormal mentality.

Abnormal mentality did good for inducing and enriching the imagination of the auther in some way. Sometimes, Amily’s imagination was beyond human nature but urueasenable. That was why she could with the thrilling scene in Mr lockwood’s dream, the behainour of Cathiner when she fell ill, and the words full of b enthusiasm but unimaginable like. They were locked in an embrace from which I thought my mistress would never be released alive.

Amily’s abnormal quality decided the thinking way during her creating, but her work was far from abnormal. "Love education" this book let me know a lot of human reason, make my benefit bandit shallow.

I think amway is a filial child, is also a kind of children. He is innocent, lively, active, there are a lot of care in his life his good friend, always encourage him, comfort him, so he can grow up smoothly, also can obtain experience.

Give me the deepest memory is second grades student Betty, he in order to protect a giulio was struck by the carriage is not a grader, is too late to dodge, crushed the foot bone by carriages, after the walk on crutches only. Students to help others in our life, there is, but like his sacrifice themselves to protect others students, we would not have met. See this story, I thought about the newspaper report: a ninety - year - old woman fell to the sidewalk. 20 minutes, not a passer-by to raise her up. Until 120 the ambulance arrived, the old lady had died for about 20 minutes. Also is two people to help, but the results are completely different, a received rescue, lay down his life for his people died a long time to be discovered. The pedestrian to give save ROM. Betty is good as a mile.

It is because the amway division side there are so many good partners, he can understand the world is full of love. It makes me feel this book is very meaningful, let me realize what is unable to destroy the friendship between classmates, what is a meticulous care between teachers and students, what is parents endless love! I believe that if you have these qualities, know what is true, the good and the beautiful people, must be the most beautiful and good life in the world!

Read "one man to cherish life", so I know life is everywhere, everywhere, life is so precious! With life, there is competition and struggle; with life, there will be happiness and sadness; with life, there is hope and ideals, with life, only to cherish life.

Jack Londons love of life tells a story about life. The works show that the strong breath of nature, brave and adventurous romantic spirit, strong will and to "live" deeply attracted me, reading people excited: a western American prospectors friend cruel abandoned was on his way back, he walked alone in the vast on the moor. The winter approached, and the cold wind caught him with snow, and he had no more food, and his legs were hurt, his shoes were broken, his feet were bleeding. He can only waiwaixiexie to stumble in the swamp covered hills, stream of wasteland, very difficult to move forward. Even at the end of the day, he had to climb forward. Just after his body was very weak and fainted, his danger came! He met a wolf who was equally hungry! The sick wolf followed him closely, licking his blood. In this way, a fierce battle between life and death began! Two dying creatures dragged their dying bodies and hunted each other in the wilderness. In order to go back alive, in order to overcome this horse he sick sick wolf, although the disease is still exhausted, hungry and exhausted all efforts in unarmed combat killed a wolf, the wolfs blood to drink. Finally, by the wilderness of ice and snow, he came to the beach and was rescued by a whale ship.

The novel clearly shows a man in the wilderness through the difficult process of survival, quietly portrays life great and powerful, is a celebration of life. "Love of life" by readers of the Blitz, is not accidental, because we can see from the face of harsh environment peoples indomitable will, dare to challenge and go beyond the limit of life, to create a miracle of life. Especially people fight in bed and illness, from which we can draw the power of life. Like the hero of the book, never give up, never give up, life strangling the throat, become a powerful life.

Ostrovsky once said: "the most precious thing is life.". Life belongs to man only once." Yes, how sacred and precious life is. However, in real life, some people lament, people complain that Life is but a dream. Born Under A Bad Sign, I do not intend to live, more people say life is painful and boring, even some people because a little small setbacks on the yield. Self abandonment, mediocrity in life.

Yeah! Life is your own, we can make it valuable, also can make it valuable, also can make it intense darkness without light. Therefore, we should be responsible for ourselves, we should cherish life, let the limited life to create unlimited glory!

I think this book is worthy to reading, it make us cherish our life.

Lucky is, however, he was huge waves sent to a deserted island. From then on, oneself start work self-reliance, Robinson created a piece of his own heaven and earth.

I have to admit that his weak and incompetent. From born to back schoolbag, parents, school laid for us in the way of growth. I feel at ease in the flat avenue passed year after year, no one. In fact, I dont chew the bitterness of life, I was in the sugar water bubble. In the happiness, however I didnt realize can eat satisfied wear warm, back schoolbag go to school, every day to accept the love of people, attention is a kind of great happiness.

After watching "Robinson Crusoe" this book, let me with emotion. We need to have that Robinson of the spirit of hard struggle. Learning about everything he didnt give up his spirit. His spirit is worth us to learn. Also time to inspire me forward.

The story sounds like just a dog tale at first--a dog, Buck, is kidnapped from his comfortable life in California and sold as a sled dog for the Alaskan gold rush. While he endures the wilderness and the other dogs, Buck learns that survival comes only with tooth and fang. This lesson brings him very close to his forbears, the wolves.

If you look deeper, Call of the Wild is as much a story of humans as it is a dog tale. Buck encounters various incompetent masters who try to break his spirit. Are we like this? But Buck also learns to trust a master who is gentle and gives love. We can be like this, too.

Call of the Wild is not a story for the squeamish or very young. By involving us in the characters lives, Jack London tells the truth. It is a life-and-death war between the harsh land and the soul every day. There is blood, death, cruelty--but its the truth.

"Last leaf" This article is my "Childrens Literature" on the see. When I finished reading the article, I who had a deep admiration for the artists talent and the kind of self-sacrificing spirit.

What happened was this: So a good friend of Jones, unfortunately, contracted pneumonia, in their residence out of the window there is a cluster of ivy, through the baptism of wind and rain, and its leaves have disappeared into obscurity. 。 Jones think when the last one leaves off the ivy-ray later, her life, coming to an end. SO this can not be racking their brains to dispel the idea of her, only to the downstairs, Mr. Berman for help. Berman is a painter, he knew that after a wet and windy night, in the ivy leaves off the light, when girls think that their certain death, when the old painter to allow girls to rekindle the fire of hope, he braved the wind and rain to leaves painted on the wall, for which he contracted pneumonia and died.

Read it, tears blurred my eyes, I thought of how great the old painter. Him, an ordinary painter, in order to save itself has to give up on a girl, paid with his life. I seem to see the face of it after he leaves unfinished a brilliant smile. He finally has had his wish. That is, he hopes to complete his Jingshizhizuo during their lifetime. It seems to me that he did. I think if he were alive, he would think so.

From the bottom of my heart I admire Mr. Berman, as well as the psychological Jones previously was sad. When people can not give up hope. Like our class a female classmate, she was very confident of their own. In a jumping goat, her teachers and fellow students rely on the constant encouragement, she finally jumped in the past. So, in our side, also need, as Mr. Berman did for our people to keep lit the fire of hope. In this way, our lives would flourishing.

From each of a small matter, every word from the language, one from each eye, we are little by little to build our self-confidence. Therefore, we must be careful to do things, talk, do not give up someone elses confidence. A people do not have self-confidence, nothing can be done.

At the beginning her general appearance her character her manners were discussed from A to Z. But with the time going by she were becoming sensible. One must apply one’s reason to everything earning to obey to hold our tongue to help to be good to give in. Life has the great power to change us to adapt it. In addition Anne started afresh and tried to get to the bottom of it all. As she said we should examine the whole matter carefully ourselves and find out what is true and what is exaggerated. In our daily life we often meet arguments with parents. We can stick to the Anne’s principle. If parents are wrong we shall try first of all to make them alter their ideas and if we don’t succeed we shall stick to our own opinions and judgement. Although she lived in a small room she still had a brightful heart. She believed that it was spiring within her she felt that spring was awaking she felt it in her whole body and soul. And in the book she wrote and thought much of the time about things which very sensitive. For example she described a lot about the affair with Peter. It’s normal for a teenager. I think parents should read this book so they can regard this question correctly.

Anne said “One certainly could not call us rich now but all my hopes are pinned on after the war.” Now we are in the peaceful world hope is full of our life. So there is no reason putting off achieving dreams we should treasure everyone everything every moment that we have.

I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helped her leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And lastly, Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worse than the men. I also think she was jealous of the fact that Marguerite had so much more courage than herself and someone truly loved her.

Last morning, when tiding my bookshelf, I took this book out of the shelf, and a dried flower flew away from the book. It was pale blue, very transparent, with thin fine veins. a dried flower flew away from the book. It was pale blue, very transparent, with thin fine veins. I held it against the morning light and blew on it. The soft breeze carried it away. Camille is just like the camellia, she could never escape from the destiny of withering. But it wasn’t her fault; it’s because of the evil of Capitalism and the hideousness of that society.

Suddenly, I remembered a saying: “Women are like the flowers”. Those pretty women are like those beautiful flowers; their delicate beauty makes people feel they are the miracle of life. However, even the God envies their beauty. It seems that beautiful women always have tragic endings. As we are normal persons, even we can see the hideousness of humanity that results in their fate of withering, we can at most ask quietly in our hearts: Where have those beautiful flowers gone? Where have they gone?

I first read "Jane Eyre" in eighth grade and have read it every few years since.

It is one of my favorite novels, and so much more than a gothic romance to me, although thats how I probably would have defined it at age 13.

I have always been struck, haunted in a way, by the characters - Jane and Mr.

Rochester.

They take on new depth every time I meet them...and theirs is a love story for the ages.

Charlotte Brontes first published novel, and her most noted work, is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story.

Jane is plain, poor, alone and unprotected, but due to her fierce independence and strong will she grows and is able to defy societys expectations of her.

This is definitely feminist literature, published in 1847, way before the beginning of any feminist movement.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the novel has had such a wide following since it first came on the market.

It is also one of the first gothic romances published and defines the genre.

Jane Eyre, who is our narrator, was born into a poor family.

Her parents died when she was a small child and the little girl was sent to live with her Uncle and Aunt Reed at Gateshead.

Janes Uncle truly cared for her and showed his affection openly, but Mrs.

Reed seemed to hate the orphan, and neglected her while she pampered and spoiled her own children.

This unfair treatment emphasized Janes status as an unwanted outsider.

She was often punished harshly.

On one occasion her nasty cousin Jack picked a fight with her.

Jane tried to defend herself and was locked in the terrifying "Red Room" as a result.

Janes Uncle Reed had died in this room a little while before, and Mrs.

Reed knew how frightened she was of the chamber.

Since Jane is the narrator, the reader is given a first-hand impression of the childs feelings, her heightened emotional state at being imprisoned.

Indeed, she seems almost like an hysterical child, filled with terror and rage.

She repeatedly calls her condition in life "unjust" and is filled with bitterness.

Looking into the mirror Jane sees a distorted image of herself.

She views her reflection and sees a "strange little figure," or "tiny phantom." Jane has not learned yet to subordinate her passions to her reason.

Her passions still erupt unchecked.

Her isolation in the Red Room is a presentiment of her later isolation from almost every society and community.

This powerful, beautifully written scene never fails to move me.

Mrs.

Reed decided to send Jane away to the Lowood School, a poor institution run by Mr.

Brocklehurst, who believed that suffering made grand people.

All the children there were neglected, except to receive harsh punishment when any mistake was made.

At Lowood, Jane met Helen Burns, a young woman a little older than Jane, who guided her with vision, light and love for the rest of her life.

Janes need for love was so great.

It really becomes obvious in this first friendship.

Helen later died from fever, in Janes arms.

Her illness and death could have been avoided if more attention had been paid to the youths.

Jane stayed at Lowood for ten years, eight as a student and two as a teacher.

Tired and depressed by her surroundings, Jane applied for the position of governess and found employment at Thornfield.

The mansion is owned by a gentleman named Edward Fairfax Rochester.

Her job there was to teach his ward, an adorable little French girl, Adele.

Over a long period the moody, inscrutable Rochester confides in Jane and she in him.

The two form an unlikely friendship and eventually fall in love.

Again, Janes need for love comes to the fore, as does her passionate nature.

She blooms.

A dark, gothic figure, Rochester also has a heart filled with the hope of true love and future happiness with Jane.

Ironically, he has brought all his misery, past and future, on himself.

All is not as it seems at Thornfield.

There is a strange, ominous woman servant, Grace Poole, who lives and works in an attic room.

She keeps to herself and is rarely seen.

From the first, however, Jane has sensed bizarre happenings at night, when everyone is asleep .There are wild cries along with violent attempts on Rochesters life by a seemingly unknown person.

Jane wonders why no one investigates Mrs.

Poole.

Then a strange man visits Thornfield and mysteriously disappears with Mr.

Rochester.

Late that night Jane is asked to sit with the man while the lord of the house seeks a doctors help.

The man has been seriously wounded and is weak from loss of blood.

He leaves by coach, in a sorry state, first thing in the morning.

Janes questions are not answered directly.

This visit will have dire consequences on all involved.

An explosive secret revealed will destroy all the joyful plans that Jane and Rochester have made.

Jane, once more will face poverty and isolation.

Charlotte Brontes heroine Jane Eyre, may not have been graced with beauty or money, but she had a spirit of fire and was filled with integrity and a sense of independence - character traits that never waned in spite of all the oppression she encountered in life.

Ms.

Bronte brings to the fore in "Jane Eyre" such issues as: the relations between men and women in the mid-19 century, womens equality, the treatment of children and of women, religious faith and hypocrisy (and the difference between the two), the realization of selfhood, and the nature of love and passion.

This is a powerhouse of a novel filled with romance, mystery and passions.

It is at once startlingly fresh and a portrait of the times.

Ms.

Bronte will make your heart beat faster, your pulse race and your eyes fill with tears.

The author pays homage to Hans Christian Andersens compassionate tale with this faithful adaptation. Kids can relate to the ducklings dilemma; part of the growing-up process is pulling away from those around you and developing a strong sense of self. Children have also witnessed or experienced the teasing that is part and parcel of childhood.

This ageless story speaks across generations with its reaffirming message. In this age of instant gratification, Andersens tale reminds readers that some things are worth waiting for and that a pleasure deferred (whether by choice or necessity) is often the sweetest one of all.

Pinkneys descriptive passages resonate with the splendor of natures beauty. The glowing watercolors, filled with intricate details, make each blade of grass visible, and the delicately drawn, nearly transparent mosquitoes are as ethereal as they are in life. The subtle details incorporated into the scenes--a frog catching a passing fly at the pond and a tiny mouse perched by a crate in the old womans cottage--make children take another look.

One day he heard a sound of whirring wings, and up in the air he saw a flock of birds flying high. They were as bright as the snow that had fallen during the night, and their long necks were stretched southward. Oh, if only he could go with them! But what sort of companion could he be to those beautiful beings?

I am too ugly even for a dog to eat, the duckling thought. Jerry Pinkneys poignant text and rich artwork convey the timeless appeal of this tale of hardship and redemption. Anyone who has suffered the sting of ostracism can sympathize with the ugly ducklings plight and will relish the uplifting conclusion.
