Qingming Festival, also known as Pure Brightness Festival or Tomb-sweeping Day, is one of the 24 segments of the Chinese calendar. It normally falls on the 4th or 5th of April, between spring plowing and summer weeding, and is a time to pay respects to ones ancestors and to tidy their gravesite. On this day, whole families, young and old, go to the gravesite of deceased family members to burn incense and perform a ritual offering while clearing away plant overgrowth from the gravesite.

Qingming Festival is when Chinese people visit the graves or burial grounds of their ancestors. Traditionally, people brought a whole rooster with them to the graves visited but the occasion has become less formal over time. The festival originated from Hanshi Day (寒食节, literally, Day with cold food only), a memorial day for Jie Zitui (介子推). Jie Zitui died in 636 BC in the Spring and Autumn Period. He was one of many followers of Duke Wen of Jin before he became a duke.

Once, during Wens 19 years of exile, they had no food and Jie prepared some meat soup for Wen. Wen enjoyed it a lot and wondered where Jie had obtained the soup. It turned out Jie had cut a piece of meat from his own thigh to make the soup. Wen was so moved he promised to reward him one day. However, Jie was not the type of person who sought rewards. Instead, he just wanted to help Wen to return to Jin to become king.

Once Wen became duke, Jie resigned and stayed away from him. Duke Wen rewarded the people who helped him in the decades, but for some reason he forgot to reward Jie, who by then had moved into the forest with his mother. Duke Wen went to the forest, but could not find Jie. Heeding suggestions from his officials, Duke Wen ordered men to set the forest on fire to force out Jie. However, Jie died in the fire. Feeling remorseful, Duke Wen ordered three days without fire to honour Jies memory. The county where Jie died is still called Jiexiu (介休, literally "the place Jie rests forever").

大家好!

又是一个清明节，又是一个缅怀和拜祭先人的日子。今年清明节放假时间，是根据上级部门的工作安排，由2015年4月4日至2015年4月6日，共三天。近一段时间以来，各处修路的、施工的、烧纸祭奠的人很多，非常容易导致意外伤害或火灾等事故发生。因此，安全问题要引起大家的高度重视。为了让大家过一个平安、愉快的清明节，在放假前，我们幼儿园再一次对全园的老师、阿姨、小朋友进行清明节假前的安全教育，具体要求小朋友做好以下几点：

1、注意交通安全。

清明节外出扫墓行走小心，遵守交通规则靠右行。不随意在马路上追逐，不并排行走，不坐“三无”危险车，更不准骑自行车。

2、注意用火安全，自觉保护环境。

小朋友回去告诉家人，不要在街道小区、公路等场所烧纸，严禁在树林、草坪或建筑物下烧纸。到坟前墓地扫墓烧纸钱时更要注意，扫墓扫墓，顾名思义先要打扫墓地，把墓地及墓地周围清扫得干干净净之后再进行祭祀活动，一个鞠躬一束鲜花就能表达我们对逝去亲人的怀念，如果采取烧纸钱方式的一定要等到香烛纸钱等燃尽之后方可离开墓地、以防止发生火灾。去公墓或陵园扫墓的还要注意爱护公墓和陵园的花草树木。

不和陌生人打交道，防止被坏人拐骗，现在的社会比较复杂，我们要提高警惕性，凡事不贪、不馋、不轻信，多动脑筋学会自我保护。随家长外出踏青游玩时，千万不要攀爬树枝和登上危险建筑物。不成群结队外出游玩，不到河边、铁路边玩耍，杜绝危险事故的发生。

4、预防春季传染病。

春季是多种传染病流行的季节，小朋友要注意个人卫生，饭前便后要洗手，家里勤通风。坚决不去购买路边小吃，流动摊贩的食品，不暴饮暴食，以免发生食物中毒和诱发肠道传染病。小朋友在家期间要注意保暖，要坚持体温检测，尽量不到人员密集的地方。一旦发现有发烧、流感、腮腺炎、手足口病、风疹等传染病发生，要立即向班主任报告，班主任做好记录并及时通报上级领导，家长要立即送孩子去医院治疗，避免传染病蔓延。

5、安排好作息时间，早睡早起

让幼儿养成良好的作息习惯，适当地进行一些健康有益的体育活动，在活动前要做好准备工作，谨防意外伤害事故的发生。

national treasure. In order to remember them, the government has named the

official holiday. Tomb-sweeping Day is one of the meaningful festivals. People

have days’ off every year and the families will get together, sweeping their

ancestors’ tombs. People believe that they do this can bring good luck, because

their ancestors will bless them. Some people question the meaning of this

festival, because they think people are superstitious. As for me, I think this

day teaches people to in honor of their ancestors and respect the culture. It is

not something about superstition, but about showing respect to the culture. We

need to pass on our culture from generations, or we will lose our national

treasure.

In some provinces of China people use different activities to commemorate this day for instance spring-outing swinging tree planting and making special food. One special food is Ay Tsao rice balls. It looks like Tang-yuan but its colour is green. Mix the ay tsao juice with the rice powder then make it into small balls. The Ay Tsao rice ball is done. People believe that eating ay tsao rice balls can get rid of the bad luck and everything will go smoothly. Summer Holiday in Taiwan

Summer can be very hot in southern Taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"C or more. Because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. Also because of this I stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky.

Actually I like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. In the summer vacation that has just ended I went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. This summer vacation， however， was not spent entirely in seeking fun. As a second-year senior student I had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. In other words， I must find time to study， too. So I divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.
