I am a third year master major in automation at ×× University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

Education background

In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test.

At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.

Research experience and academic activityWhen a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

妈妈做事总是这么出乎意料，下午要进行陶艺大赛了，吃完午饭才告诉我。

匆匆赶到比赛场地，已经有很多小朋友和妈妈在现场了。由于知道的太晚了，我心中也没有概念，该捏个什么玩意儿。

在手工作坊，我们把参赛前剩余的几分钟都用来看展示的物品了，大多是笔筒的形状，虽然做成各式各样，但是都是那样的圆柱形，大小不一，装饰物不一样罢了。但上色后，确实都是很美的，独一无二的作品。

比赛开始了哦，我们每人发了一团陶泥，老师开始讲了，怎么把泥团捏成空心的，怎么来粘小部件……然后，然后就自由发挥了呀。

我看到了老师桌上的圣诞老人，很漂亮，我也想有这样一个圣诞老人。我先学着老师刚演示的模样，分一点陶泥在手上，用喷水壶远远地喷上一些水，用手使劲揉，揉成一个圆球。感觉双手上都被泥糊满了，手心手背上的泥巴干的不均匀，反正跟捏黏土不一样，手上好怪的感觉。妈妈说小时候他们就是这么捏泥巴的，但是我……还是决定先把手洗干净。然后把圆球用擀面杖擀成饼，中间塞上餐巾纸，模仿着模型，沾上点泥浆，圣诞老人的身子就这么出来了。然后照着样子捏胡须，捏眼睛，捏鼻子，捏帽子，捏双手……估计老师都要笑了，每捏一个，我都要去水龙头上把手冲干净。

总算，我的圣诞老人，在妈妈的帮助下成型了。是一个背着个大礼物袋子的圣诞老人。虽然还没有有上色，但我还是看到他在冲我笑呢。是笑我现在的幸福生活吗？妈妈说她小时候，没有橡皮泥，没有黏土，只有泥巴。但是，我们的陶泥作品，据说还有机会被烧制出来，永久保存呢，你说我是不是很幸福呀。

Every year, my school will have the summer camp activity. I love to join this activity so much, because I can have a lot of fun with my friends. 第二轮的比赛开始了，我的机器人顺利地到达了接力区，队友也走得格外的惊险，我们在心中暗暗喊加油！终于，我们进入了指定区，成功了！我激动地抱着我的机器人，把它放入了编号区。

从此，我和机器人结下了深厚的感情。机器人也成为了我生活中不可缺少的好朋友。

I have found that the more time I spend alone, the more comfortable I become in my own skin because I can truly get to know myself. This provides me with more patience to accept myself as I am, wherever I am in my journey, on a daily basis.

我发现独处的时间越长，我越觉得舒服、放松和自信，因为这样我可以认识真正的自己。这让我每天都有更多的耐心来接受自己，接受自己在生活旅途中的位置。

This lesson was something I learned after spending a summer alone in Italy with a family friend.

I embarked on the journey, turning off my phone for the first time, well, probably ever. I would be jetting all over America then landing in a country with a family basically unknown to me.

我们从小学一年级就开始学习国学知识了，有《论语》、《弟子规》、《百家姓》、《三字经》、《礼记》等等，这也是我们学校一道亮丽的风景线。

在寒假里，我们学校要求我们在网上参加一次中小学生国学知识网络大赛，我们都觉得很好奇，我又觉得信心满满的。回到家里，我打开了电脑，进入了网站，注册了一个用户名，便开始匆匆答题了，一看到答卷，傻眼了：这种题目很多我以前根本都没接触过，现在的我，只能用一个字来形容这些题目：难！

我努力地在脑子中寻找答案，也努力地吧题目中的意思理解出来，可是，终究还是有很多答不上来，最终的成绩很可怜：35.5分，我顿时觉得中国的国学知识，实在是太广阔，太深奥了！

孔子、孟子、庄子等先贤留给了我们宝贵的精神财富，并影响我们生活方式、行为标准、制度建设、伦理纲常。有许多国学知识对我们一生都有许多帮助：它教导我们如何学好知识、如何孝敬长辈、如何为人受信、如何忠于国家等等。

“书到用时方恨少”，通过这次国学大赛，我深深感悟到：学习国学知识，更应该去领悟它的含义，使它能帮助我健康成长。

“谁的哀伤，西风彷徨？谁的愁绪，满了潇湘？谁哭了？谁笑了？谁在琥珀色的风中歌唱？让我唱，让我忘，让我在琥珀色的风中歌唱！”现在的我充满哀伤，为了逃避我在反复朗诵这首诗。

失败让我两年的努力付诸东流，这两年中我坚守着它——生物。与它相遇，生命似乎不再那样空虚，仿佛有一股火一般奔放的热情要倾泻在它的身上。这两年来为它哭过，笑过。似乎应追忆一下美好的过去！

从高一的生物课上获得了快乐与智慧，在生物竞赛课上由于自己的努力一直使自己名列前茅，终于在辛勤的努力后成为了生物竞赛学生负责人。但一切的一切都是过眼云烟，在生命的长河中似乎要与它分离。因为自己的物理不好，不敢选物理生物。最后独自一人选择了历史生物，我真的选成了，为了它我要跑班上课，但我为了它无怨无悔。我爱上了它，为了它奋斗了两年。在新篇章中我又一次谱写出了人生的辉煌！由于自己的才能我做了高二生物助教，在教与学中中使我不仅生物水平有了巨大的提高，并且赢来了老师同学的赞誉。在高二的生物学业水平测试中辅导了6位同学，有5位取得了A的成绩也是对自己能力的一种肯定。

这是多么的美好，可缤纷绚丽的肥皂泡总是转瞬即逝，我失败了。去年的生物竞赛没当真，没进复赛。而2009年的生物竞赛我以二中第一的成绩进入复赛，当时兴冲冲的到南大去学了几天生物。在那里我得到了平生未有过的打击，让我懂得了绝不要以为自己什么都知道，其实自己是无知的！但我知道挫折只会改变怯懦者的理想，却不会改变强者高挂于头顶的信仰。于是开始停课复习，但是天知道我为什么会在复赛考了那一点分数，估计决赛是进不去了。唉，我真的技止于此吗？

我哀伤，我彷徨，这两年来的努力换回了什么？在思考中，我想到了动物界的荆棘鸟，它为了让生命的一次绝响，在漫漫路途中寻找那一枝最长最大的荆棘，用其插入自己的身体。刹那间鲜血流遍了整片荆棘丛，悠扬婉转的曲调随风在飘散。它的生存为了自己实现自己的人生价值，我想人亦应如此。所以为了生物竞赛奋斗我无怨无悔！

Ihave three reasons to support my view. Firstly, playing team sports helpstudents cooperate with others more easily and enhance their teamconsciousness. They may support each otherwhen they meet problems, and share happiness when they win in the game. Thisexperience makes them matured and understands the real meaning of unity. Whats more, students could exercise a good figure if theyinsist doing sports. Boys will have much muscle and girls will be thinner. Theywill be more confident than before.

Thirdly,playing team sports not only is a bridge for students to build friendship, butalso help them learn communicating skills. In a team, students have sameinterest which will take them short time to be familiar with each other. Inaddition, students need train together, share their achievement together andovercome the hardship together. This experience has established a deepfoundation to their friendship. Furthermore, when they get alone with eachother, they could learn how to speak in an appropriate way and how to avoidconflicts with members.
