记得那年暑假，妈妈总是唠叨着让我去学习，而我总是找各种理由推脱。有一天，我趁妈妈睡觉的时候，悄悄溜进了妈妈的房间，发现书架上有一本书，我便将它拿了出来。定睛一看，是四大名著中的《西游记》，我随手一翻，足有六七百页。心想，如果能将这本书看完，那一定会获取许多文学知识，妈妈也会对我刮目相看的。

第一天，我看得津津有味，并随着故事的情节，时而乐，时而忧，时而喜，时而惊。唐僧师徒四人西天取经的曲折经历，深深地吸引了我，让我爱不释手。一晃儿就过去了十多天，我也看完了整本书，完全被博大精深的文学作品迷住了。于是我便央求妈妈给我买全这几部名著。妈妈听了大吃一惊，问道：“你怎么突然要读书了？”我便把事情一五一十地告诉了妈妈，妈妈嘴角带着一丝笑意，欣慰地答应了。

不久，四大名著就寄到家了，我迫不及待的拆开包装：《西游记》《三国演义》《水浒传》《红楼梦》四本书跃入我的眼帘。捧起书，我便在属于我的天空尽情遨游。但是过了几天，我心里又有了动摇，这三本书得有两千多页，这么多的页数，什么时候才能读完呀？我在心里又打起了退堂鼓。于是，我故作聪明，心生一计，我只略看，不详看，走马观花地看。没过几天，我便把其余三本都粗略地浏览了一遍。有天晚上，不知为何，妈妈突然问起我《三国演义》的内容。妈妈问：“五虎上将都有谁呀？赤壁之战是谁与谁指挥的？”问完，妈妈笑眯眯地看着我。我心想：我都是囫囵吞枣看一遍的，这些我哪能知道呀，便一时语塞。妈妈，看了，嗔怪地说：“就知道你没认真细看。”我羞愧地低下了头。妈妈语重心长地说：“读书不在于快慢，欲速则不达。只要你认真看，无论每天能读多少，都能不断地汲取营养，都能够学到知识。所以，坚持并认真的读书很重要。”
