书中讲述了一个孤儿悲惨的身世及遭遇。主人公奥里弗在孤儿院长大，他的童年过着吃不饱、穿不暖的生活。后来他被送到了一个棺材店里当学徒，但因不能老板娘的侮辱，他后来含恨而走，可是却又误入贼窝，被迫与狠毒的凶徒为伍，他曾被善良的布朗罗先收留，但是又被凶徒带走，扒手们策划让他做一个小偷，但他不失善良本色，于是一次抢劫被成功阻止，奥利弗被冷枪击中。幸亏同行的一位小偷救下了他。之后，奥利弗历尽无数辛酸，最后被善良的女扒手营救。奥利弗终于得以与亲人团聚。但南希却被贼窝头目杀害了。警察之后围剿了贼窝。读完后，我既为奥利弗获得幸福而高兴，又为南希最后的死去而悲伤。可见小说内容曲折，让读者眼界大开。同时小说中的情节更让我感触很多：他在这里度过的幼年是那样的阴暗，始终没有一句亲切的话语或是一道亲切的眼光照亮过。““眼泪即顺着奥利弗的脸颊滴了下来，跟着一是滴，接着泪水连成了一条线”，“这孩子拼命想忍住泪水，却怎么也止不住，他索性双手捂住面孔，泪珠从他那纤细的手指头缝里汹涌泻出……”像这样的描写还有很多，每一个词语都深深地打动了我。想想我们的童年有着父母最亲切的爱，我们生活在蜜罐里一样。但是有时我们却仍不满足，时常的发些脾气。读完这本小说，我的眼泪不知流了多少次，但最后终于苦尽甜来。小说描写了善与恶，美与丑，正义与邪恶的斗争，赞扬了人们天性中的正直与善良。书中善良的人很多，正是因为有了他们，才使得奥利弗得到了温暖，是他们让一个孤儿不再受苦，同时奥里弗也没有向侮辱屈服，折磨也没有改变他那善良的本性，这也是小说的一个闪耀点。

读了这部小说后，让我受益匪浅。让我看到了社会的冷酷和人的性格之分，让我读懂了奥里弗不弯腰、不低头的精神和那善良的本性。
