The benefit of volunteering

As we all know, volunteering has a meaningful and positive impact on the community you serve and the people you help. In the meanwhile, it can have many benefits for you, too. In my opinion, there are two reasons to

volunteer: feel good about yourself while helping others; build your portfolio.

On one hand, volunteering makes you feel good about yourself on a purely selfish level. There are few things more satisfying than helping people. Hammering nails on a new home while the owner beams with pride right next to you is an amazing feeling. Walking or running to raise funds for a cause close to your heart helps to give you a sense of purpose and helps you realize just how lucky you are. As a volunteer, you will gain new perspective, for it’s so easy for us all to get a little too wrapped up in our own lives. On the other hand, from a professional standpoint, volunteering is a great way to add to your portfolio. From press releases to design pieces, from public speaking to fundraising,

you will have the opportunity to build your portfolio. This is especially beneficial for students or young professionals, although all of us should continually work on building our portfolios.

Apart from the benefits of building up your confidence and making your portfolio better, there are probably many other benefits you will find in your volunteer work. So it is time for you to participate in more volunteer work to help others as well as help yourselves.

The 9th day of the 9th lunar month is the traditional Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival. It usually falls in October in the Gregorian calendar. In an ancient and mysterious book Yi Jing, or The Book of Changes, number 6 was thought to be of Yin character, meaning feminine or negative, while number 9 was thought to be Yang, meaning masculine or positive. So the number nine in both month and day create the Double Ninth Festival, or Chongyang Festival. Chong in Chinese means double. Also, as double ninth was pronounced the same as the word to signify forever, both are Jiu Jiu, the Chinese ancestors considered it an auspicious day worth celebration. That‘s why ancient Chinese began to celebrate this festival long time ago.

The custom of ascending a height to avoid epidemics was passed down from long time ago. Therefore, the Double Ninth Festival is also called Height Ascending Festival. The height people will reach is usually a mountain or a tower. Ancient literary figures have left many poems depicting the activity. Even today, people still swarm to famous or little known mountains on this day.

On this day, people will eat Double Ninth Gao (or Cake). In Chinese, gao (cake) has the same pronunciation with gao (height). People do so just to hope progress in everything they are engaged in. There is no fixed ways for the Double Ninth Cake, but super cakes will have as many as nine layers, looking like a tower.

The Double Ninth Festival is also a time when chrysanthemum blooms. China boasts diversified species of chrysanthemum and people have loved them since ancient times. So enjoying the flourishing chrysanthemum also becomes a key activity on this festival. Also, people will drink chrysanthemum wine. Women used to stick such a flower into their hair or hang its branches on windows or doors to avoid evilness.

In 1989, the Chinese government decided the Double Ninth Festival as Seniors‘ Day. Since then, all government units, organizations and streets communities will organize an autumn trip each year for those who have retired from their posts. At the waterside or on the mountains, the seniors will find themselves merged into nature. Younger generations will bring elder ones to suburban areas or send gifts to them on this day.

长大后我离开了家乡，离开了秦腔，秦腔了那下里巴人的合唱……许多年过去了，我再没有听到过那样撼天动地的秦腔，也再没感受到过那震撼人心的力量……几年后，我重回家乡。又是那金黄的关中大地。又是那熟悉的一曲秦腔。我却突然哭了起来，不由得随着乡人们吼唱起秦腔，加入他们的合唱。

那一刹那间，我忽然明白那种力量从何而来，他从骨子里而来，从脚踩的关中大地而来。这大合唱啊，是每一个独属于关中儿女的歌，寄托着对土地的无限热爱……

我们的中国传统文化博大精深。今天，我要向大家介绍的就是中华传统文化—剪纸。

剪纸的种类有许多，比如：斗香花、窗花、喜花、鞋花、礼花、剪纸团花、剪纸汉字、剪纸旗幡等等。我这次只介绍剪纸图画、剪纸汉字和剪纸旗幡。

剪纸图画就是在一张纸上剪出想象中的画面，然后再画出来。

剪纸汉字也是先拿出一张纸，然后在上面写出一些汉字，最后，再把汉字剪出来，还可以剪艺术字哩！我曾经也剪过，看起来非常的好看。不信你自己试试！你看了准会说特别漂亮。因为这是旧时候传下来的一种文化。

剪纸旗幡我也做过，只不过是按照自己的方法做的。我先拿来一根一分米长的棍子，然后用一张A4纸折成一个三角形，最后，再把纸粘上去就做成了，你也试试吧！

春节，是农历正月“初一”，又叫阴历年，俗称“过年”。这是我国最快乐、最热闹的一个节日。

每年从腊二月十三起到年三十，祖国把这段时间叫“迎春节”，也叫“扫尘日”。我们家在春节前要把家打扫干净，这也是我国人民的传统习惯。

家家户户贴春联、备年货，鸡、鸭、鱼、肉、茶、酒、油、糖果、糕点等等……家长们要为小孩子准备新衣服，过年时穿新衣，祝福孩子快高长大。

春节期间，大家走亲访友，联络感情，叫做“拜年”。拜年时，长辈们会给孩子压岁钱，用红包包着，很喜庆，速成“利是”。压岁钱数额不在乎多少，而是各位长辈给我们的期待和祝福!

除夕晚上，孩子们急急忙忙吃完年夜饭，就三五成群地去放烟花，节日的天空早已是五彩缤纷，仿佛天女散花。各式烟花好美，我最喜欢魔术弹。你们看：魔术弹带着笑声飞向天空，喷出冒出五颜六色的花朵，红的、蓝的、绿的紫的……钟敲十二点，电视里的春节晚会上，传来乒乒乓乓的鞭炮声，接着千家万户的烟花交错升起，点燃了天空!整个中国沸腾了，新的一年终于到来了!

It is widely noted that lots of traditional culture is disappearing along

with the development of technology. Many ancient architectures and traditional

ways of living have been deserted. It seems that the traditional culture and

craftsmanship will be replaced in this modern era.

The following reasons can account for the above phenomenon. Firstly,

traditional technologies are always considered ineffective while the new

sciences are always highly efficient, because modern science and technology

facilitate both our daily and academic life a lot, with which we can save much

money and time. Secondly, it is costly to protect the traditional culture,

especially the maintenance and repair of the historical buildings.

In my opinion, although traditional culture is an ancient heritage, it

couldnt keep pace with the development of society. It is the tide of history

that the traditional culture and technology will no doubt be eliminated in the

end.

在当今开放的世界里，大家在吸收外来文化的同时，也要大力弘扬华夏五千年的优秀传统文化。只有这样，世界才会健康地朝多元化方向发展，才能更加地充满生机和活力。 小时候，每当大年三十晚，村里便鼓声四起，霎时间村当街便挤满了人，有敲锣打鼓的，有扭秧歌的，有踩高跷的，有玩龙的，村里好不热闹。小孩子穿着棉袄在街上你追我赶的，不时地放着炮，老人们聚成一堆儿聊天，年轻小伙儿，俊俏姑娘则在给人们表演节目。

而清明节，人们总会把嫩绿的柳枝插在门上；端午时，奶奶总会给大家系五线绳，煮鸡蛋、煮大蒜，包粽子……到了中秋节呢，大家一家老小坐在院子里，举头望明月，低头吃月饼，真是人间一大乐事。 可现在呢，“洋节”来袭，西方的情人节代替了大家的七夕节。洋节风靡而传统节日却逐渐被人们淡忘，身为一名中国人，你难道不应为此做些什么吗？ 现在，每当过年时人们总是出去大吃一顿，守在电视机旁看春晚，有许多人在叹气，说：“怎么一点年儿都没有？”孰不知扭秧歌，敲大鼓等这些文化习俗正在挥手向大家告别。

清明节人们哪还会在自家门前插一枝嫩柳呢？仅仅去坟里扫扫墓，仅此而已。端午节，还有谁会安分地在家包粽子？中秋夜圆之夜，又有谁会和家人们惬意地坐在院子里手拿月饼，抬头赏月呢？ 中华的优秀传统文化慢慢被人们所淡忘。传统佳节在现在社会里日益冷清，怎能不令人担忧？不引起社会的广泛关注呢？ 优秀的传统文化是大家老祖先留给大家的无形财富，传统佳节蕴含着中华优秀传统文化因子，这些是大家民族的优秀劳动成果和智慧的结晶。

作为一名高中生，我能倡议大家为弘扬传统文化而贡献一份微薄之力。优秀的传统文化不属于这个民族，它更属于这个世界。大家要尽全力把大家的传统佳节推广到世界上，让世界变得更加炫彩多姿。保卫传统文化，弘扬民族精神，你还等什么？快行动吧！

“中华文化是中国生生不息，团结奋进的不竭动力”。《大趋势》作者约翰奈斯比特曾经承认：“中国文明，作为世界仅存的拥有悠久历史的文明之一，在高思维方面能为人类做出很多贡献。”中华文化确实是全人类共同的财富。然而，取其精华，去其糟粕才真正是融合文化所需要的。

随着时代的推移和变迁，在21世纪现代观念下衡量的传统文化与道德，是实现社会现代化的动力，还是一种阻力？我们应该思考这个问题的答案。“中华文明九千年，神州佳话中外传。”中华文明远古而来，千回百转，流光异彩，滋养了中华民族精神，然而日新月异，它糟粕的内容也成为了束缚人民行动和思想自由的枷锁。

儒家思想是精华与糟粕并存的文明。孟子有云：“民为贵，社稷次之，君为轻”，它在政治上突出了统治者实行“仁政”的必要性，道义上肯定了民众反抗，推翻暴君的正义性，民心向背决定君王政权的兴衰。唐太宗李世民以“水能载舟，亦能覆舟”而治天下，成就一世明君的美名。然而，任何文明并不是绝对的优秀。儒家思想中森严的等级制度将人分为三六九等，造就了不平等的社会。把全国的臣民变为了君王的奴才，“只许州官放火不许百姓点灯”一句，形象地道出当时百姓的低下地位与不平等的社会氛围。儒家的这一思想是催生奴性的思想根源，造成了国人脑子里根深蒂固的奴才意识。

俗话有言，民以食为天。故而一个叫“劳动”的名词成为了以“食”为目的的产物。就当今社会而言，中国的腐败极大多数发生在饭桌之上，不少高级餐厅更是成为了藏污纳垢的集中营，酒量甚至也成为了衡量一个人能力的标准。这不仅助长了社会不良风气，还造成了酒后交通事故等的社会危害。损人不利己。

道家思想崇尚自然，倡导无为，正向当今我们所倡导的热爱自然，保护环境，仅此足以证明道家学说的意义深远。今天物资条件高速发达，伴随着的有一系列的社会和环境问题。人类在妄想改造自然的同时，也遭受了大自然严厉的惩罚。道家思想确实是在为人类的生存考虑，“自然无为”是给我们最大的启示。人与自然和谐统一的永恒永远存在，道家思想将是亘古的文明精华。

缺乏平等性，科学精神和法制观念是中华传统文化的弊端，一个民族要尽可能吸收外来精华文化，摒弃本族文化糟粕，接受古老的人类文化的教育熏陶，深知道德底线所在，发展中华民族的传统现代文化，用文化力量推进中国迈向第一世界。

剪纸、雕塑、戏曲都是我国的传统文化，其中最为著名的戏曲当属京剧。

京剧的前身是安徽剧，通称黄皮戏。清乾隆五十年起，相继进入北京演出，同时吸收了汉调、秦腔、昆曲的部分剧目。曲调和表演方法，融合演变成一种新的声腔，更为悦耳动听，称为“京调”，现在我们称为京剧。

在我们家，爷爷和爸爸都非常喜欢京剧。每到周末时，中央电视台戏曲频道都会播放京剧节目，我们都会准时来收看，丰富的唱腔字正腔圆，京胡锣鼓的伴奏时而铿锵有力，时而委婉动听。

我特别喜欢京剧的脸谱，脸谱是京剧表演者脸上的绘画，用于舞台演出的化妆造型艺术。为此我在美术班专门向老师请教，学会了很多脸谱的画法，比如曹操的白脸，张飞的黑十字门蝴蝶，关羽的红脸，窦尔墩的蓝花三块瓦脸。

京剧是中国戏曲的瑰宝，希望大家都能够喜欢它，祝愿它继续发扬光大，成为我们的文化生活。

各个国家民族都有自己的文化，国家之所以富强，是因为文化，社会的，社会之所以和谐，是因为文化。我国是世界文化唯一延续的四大古国之一。在现实生活中，传统文化的利弊日益暴露，有大部分已经被淘汰了，但有些人却想把传统文化一尘不变地交给下一代，这就需要注意了。传统文化有好有坏。我们应该发扬好的。剔除坏的。因为她会杨勇青少年的心灵。甚至束缚他们，所以在面对传统文化，我们要取舍。

中国有过年的习惯，过年会使人精神焕发，过年还要燃放鞭炮，放烟花，随着环境问题日益严重，现在我们不燃放鞭炮烟花了，有人会说过年是传统文化，燃放鞭炮不是理所应当嘛，难道传统文化不重要了吗?不，不是的燃放鞭炮烟花会使空气，变差。也会引起一系列的环境问题，目前人们已经意识到环境问题的严重性，为了这个地球为了我们共同的家园，人们正在保护环境，所以不燃放鞭炮，烟花并不是，抛弃了传统文化，而是发扬了他。传统文化理应现在结合我们一样。中国素来是礼仪之邦，而尊老爱幼，尊师重教我们已经传承了五千多年。它是传统文化，它是发扬光大，会永不磨灭，因为它是民族之魂永不磨灭。但现在出现这样一个问题，有些老人仗着尊老爱幼的传统扬言这样了，分家。我在一本书上看到，有个老人每天下午都会端着板凳坐在车上，人肉抢位，等到他们而女同事，不会为了停车的事而烦恼，这引得我们的思考，如果那两个老人，每天座位，会不会引起别的控车主的愤怒，甚至社会上一些不谙世情的出现。如果长此以往，每个车主的父母令人，那社会还会稳定吗?还会和谐吗?难道尊老爱幼就是理由吗?现在有些人打着各种幌子，请青少年学习传统文化，去学习那些哟，腐蚀作用的文化，以此来谋划我们青少年的心理。如果我们接受传统文化，那以后准，会不堪设想。因此在好的传统文化上，我们更应该擦亮眼睛，用传统文化，用批判的眼光去对待传统文化，传统文化是我们每个人应该学习的，因此我们要学会取舍。

中国传统文化是反映民族风貌的文化，是民族的精神支柱。中华传统文化有书法，对联，灯谜，诗歌，民族音乐，民族舞蹈……

在我们阳泉，对传统文化比较重视。像新春，端午节，元宵节都用不同的方式来庆祝。

下面，我详细地介绍一下我们这里是怎样过元宵节的。

这一天，我们本地人早饭吃元宵，元宵很好吃，包的馅不同，味道也不同。这时街上已经挂满了彩灯和大红灯笼。道路两旁的树上挂满了一闪一闪的小彩灯。

上午，荫营广场上有扭秧歌比赛。每个村都有自己的秧歌队。他们穿着花花绿绿的衣服，在舞台上快乐地跟着音乐扭来扭去，都想为自己村里争光。

最热闹的地方是一中门口的黄河阵。传说是诸葛亮摆得阵法。在我们这里成了元宵节必须去得地方。奶奶说：“转黄河阵可以祛百病，转得快就一年顺利。”

所以，每年全家人都要去转一圈，以求平安和顺利。

这就是我们这里过元宵节的传统文化，体现出荫营人民的精神风貌。

中国的传统文化可真是博大精深，源远流长啊!有端午节，中秋节，元宵节，劳动节，清明节，腊八节，元旦节……民间工艺也是多种多样，有微雕，刺绣，剪纸，泥塑，皮影，吹糖人，砖雕，瓷刻，木偶，蜡染，脸谱……其中，我最感兴趣的就是——除夕和春节，春节是农历正月初一，(阴历年)是我国最隆重，最热闹的一个传统节日。在春节的前一天是除夕夜，传说中国古时候有一种叫“年”的怪兽头长触角，凶猛异常。“年”常年深居海底，每到除夕才爬上岸，吞食牲畜伤人害命。因此，每到除夕这天，村村寨寨的人们扶老携幼逃往深山，以躲避“年”兽的伤害。有一年除夕，从村外来了个乞讨的老人。乡亲们一片匆忙恐慌景色，只有村东头一位老婆婆给了老人一些食物，并劝他快上山躲避“年”，那老人笑到：“婆婆若让我在家带一夜，我一定把“年”兽撵走。”老婆婆仍然继续劝说，乞讨老人笑而不语。天渐渐地黑了，“年”来到了村里，可大家只听得“年”的一声喊叫，原来是因为那个乞丐身穿红色披袍，还把老婆婆的家打扮的烛火通明，还放着烟火和爆竹。所以“年”不敢靠近，只好逃走了。

没过多久，这件事就广为流传了，大家都效仿那个乞丐的做法，每到初夜那一天家家户户烛火通明、守更待岁。果然，“年”再也没有出现过。

更因此，到了春节家家户户也会张灯结彩，所以，过年才有了贴窗花，放爆竹的习俗。春节更有拜年的习俗，相互问候。还有吃年夜饭的传统美德。——一家人都在一起开开心心的吃一顿晚餐……还有许多习俗。

中国的习俗和传统我们都不应该忘记。鲁迅说过：“惟有民魂是宝贵的，惟有它发扬起来，中国才真的有进步。”觉醒吧!我希望我们用全部的聪明才智和生命热血来传承我们的优秀民族文化，来构建我们的祖国辉煌。请“弘扬中华美德，构建和谐社会”吧!
