下面我们就谈谈众所周知的一个简单的科学实验----虹吸现象。做这个小实验要准备的材料有：两个盆子、足够的水、一根较长的软管。材料准备好了，具体怎么做呢?首先，把其中一个装了水的盆子，放在较高的地方，可以是桌子或柜子上，然后把没装水的盆子放到较地的地方，再把软管里装满水，两头分别放在两个盆子里，这样，大家就可以发现，装了水的盆子里的水通过软管流到空盆子里了。这个实验的原理是：通过大气压强，将液体从较高处通过软管，先向上再向下流到较低地方去的现象。

借助这个虹吸现象的原理，我给大家讲个故事吧!

肯尼亚北部地区是一望无际的沙漠，这里由于田地荒芜、人烟稀少，几乎是不长农作物的。但是，如果你乘飞机，从飞机上俯视大沙漠，眼下仿佛有一块巨大而美丽的水晶球，这就是非洲著名的图尔卡那湖，又名碧玉湖。一个湖泊在时，人们来到湖畔，只见碧波荡漾，清澈照人，可是不大一会儿工夫，辽阔的水面就消得无影无踪了，成为一片茫茫的沙漠。这个时隐时现的湖泊被人称为“鬼湖”。为什么会出现“鬼湖”呢?经过科学家们的反复考察、实验，推测制造“鬼湖”的原因是由于类似虹吸泉的现象引起的。在“鬼湖”附近，应该有一个比“鬼湖”地势高的底下空洞，储藏着从别处流来的水，还有一个类似前面讲的软管似的地下通道，将“鬼湖”和地下空洞连接起来，当洞内的积水积到能淹没通道最高位时，水就将通道内的空气挤压掉，水便从空洞里流了出来，便出现“鬼湖”，但又因为“鬼湖”处于沙漠之上，即使水再多也会不消多大功夫就流到沙层下面了，就算这水一时没流掉，由于沙漠上狂风乍起，风沙弥漫，也是不大一会儿，就会被流沙所覆盖，变成一片茫茫的沙海。

所以，我们不能小看周围的每一个小现象，因为任何现象都有它的科学道理的。
