Throughout the millennia, students of all ages in China have had to endure the miseries of learning by rote. Teachers have stifled creativity in the pursuit of the accumulation of facts, and parents have forced children to spend mind-numbing hours cramming for exams. According to a survey last year among senior secondary-school students and university freshmen in one area, more than 50% had considered killing themselves.

Several other countries in East Asia, including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, are grappling with similar problems. But the implications of Chinas reform efforts are particularly profound. Chinas traditional education methods are ideally suited to a political culture that requires citizens to submit blindly to authority. By encouraging students to question their teachers and regard them as equals (even official literature now talks of fostering a “democratic” atmosphere in classrooms), China could be ushering in a new kind of relationship between the rulers and the ruled.

This holiday is my best busy holiday for I am learning English, computer and word and I fall in the weekend exam. i had an unforgettable labour day holiday.

my classmates threw a celebration party at our middle school principles flat. our parents were invited to the party. everybody was ecited about the holiday. i ate a lot of delicious food at that time. i also went visiting my relatives with my parents. we went to celebrate our good time at a fancy restaurant in shanghai. later that day, we sang karaoke in my uncles house. we stayed for the night.

the net day, i went shopping with my cousins. we bought some brand name t-shirts and pants. in the afternoon, my cousins gave me a fun ride on the city highway. they also taught me how to drive their fancy car, so i tried to do some turning and parking. it was not easy first. but i learnt quick. we returned home with many gifts from our trip. i tried to get some rest. at night, i chatted with my classmates on the phone, and i watched cctv before going to bed. since last friday, i started to finish up my homework assignments on my personal laptop. some of my assignments were quite boring. after i finished the homework, i emailed them to my teachers.

that was my unforgettable labour day holiday. yeh, i had a lot of fun!

This years summer vacation was most enjoyable. I spent fifteen days helping my grandparents doing farm work in the countryside， where I saw mountains fields covered with green plants. Sometimes I went swimming in the river to the west of the village， the water in which was quite clear.

Teachers Day

September 10 is our Teachers’ Day. In the afternoon, Zhonghua school held a celebration meeting, at which more than twenty old teachers each were praised with a medal for their over thirty years of teaching. Our principal made an enthusiastic speech at the meeting, and then the representative of the teachers and students gave a talk to us. After the meeting, we started performances played by some teachers and students, which were very interesting and instructive. We all had a wonderful time. Anna’s efforts finally paid off. In 1910, the governor of West Virginia declared Mothers Day a state holiday on the second Sunday in May. The following year, every other state followed suit. By 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill declaring Mother’s Day a Federal Holiday.

At first, celebrations of Mothers Day were relatively private, where children would accompany their mothers to the churches where their baptisms were held. Gradually though, Mothers Day has flourished into a significant and memorable occasion where many people express their love for their mothers through thoughtful gifts and quality time with family.

万圣节是在十一月一日。在西方的国家，一片热闹：

一个叫红红的小女孩正在跟着一群小伙伴们一起到别人家敲门，口里念着：不给糖就捣乱，快给糖果，不然我真的要捣乱啦。那个人的家打开了门，给了小朋友们糖果，嘴里微笑着说：给你们糖果吃，不要捣乱哦，快走吧，去别人家好好地玩，祝你们快乐。红红和小伙伴们到另外一个要糖果吃，嘴里还吃着香香的糖果，对那个叔叔说：不给糖就捣乱，给糖果吃，不然我们就要捣乱哦。可是那个叔叔非但没有给他们糖吃，还骂了他们一顿：“去去去，你们别来捣乱，别去我家要糖果，你们快点滚出去，去别人家要糖果，别到这儿来。”红红和小伙伴们哭了，垂头丧气的走到另一家，“啊!有鬼啊!”“别怕是我。”一个戴着南瓜头的叔叔说道，原来是你啊，小伙伴们和红红红惊呆了，这位吓唬我们的叔叔竟然是不给我们糖的叔叔，那位叔叔见伙伴们和红红很惊讶，解释道：“大家不用怕我，我只是逗你们玩的，来来来，叔叔给你们糖果吃。”小伙伴和红红领了糖果，嘴里一片欢笑。

万圣节虽然有时又会被别人吓，但也可以要糖果吃。
