On the eve of the new year,each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner.After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve.Then every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fire works to welcome the new year.On the first day of the new year,almost everyone is dressed in his or her best.When people meet on the way,they say to each other "Happy New Year".Friends and relatives pay new year calls and gives presents to each other.Children indulge themselves in games.

As the spring festival  is coming, I decide to tell you something  about Spring Festival  .

Spring Festival ,known as the Chinese New Year,which counts from the first day in the lunar calendar ,and is the most important holiday in China.From late January to early February,Chinese people are busy preparing for the New Year.They clean their houses ,have their hair cut,and buy new clothes .Jiaozi or dumpling is most popular.To those who live far away from their home,this festival is also a framily reunion occasion.

And they often go back home to celebrate the festival with their family.At the time,the children will play the fireworks and firecracker。further more，once the children greet to olds，  for return,the olds will give the children lucky money.and last The first day of the new year is the time when people visit their friends and wish each other good luck in the new year,remember to be happy！

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays。 It is sometimes called the "Lunar New Year" by English speakers。 The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival。 Chinese New Years Eve is known as chú xī。 It literally means "Year-pass Eve"。

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Lunar Calendar。 The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions。 Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most。

Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese， Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors， as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction。 These include Koreans (Seollal)， Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar)， Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar)， Vietnamese (T?t)， and formerly the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu)。 Outside of Mainland China， Hong Kong， Macau， and Taiwan， Chinese New Year is also celebrated in countries with significant Han Chinese populations， such as Singapore， Indonesia， Laos， Malaysia， the Philippines， and Thailand。 In countries such as Australia， Canada and the United States， although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday， many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post， Canada Post， and the US Postal Service issues New Years themed stamps。

Within China， regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely。 People will pour out their money to buy presents， decoration， material， food， and clothing。 It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good ining luck。 Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”， “wealth”， and “longevity”。 On the Eve of Chinese New Year， supper is a feast with families。 Food will include such items as pigs， ducks， chicken and sweet delicacies。 The family will end the night with firecrackers。 Early the next morning， children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year， and receive money in red paper envelopes。 The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges， and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone。

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years， outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of Huangdi。 But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars， making the year 2009 "Chinese Year" 4707， 4706， or 4646。

当午夜交正子时，新年钟声敲响之际，整个城市的上空，爆竹声震响天宇。在这一刻，有的人家还在庭院里垒“旺火”，以示旺气通天，兴隆繁盛。在熊熊燃烧的旺火周围，孩子们放爆竹，欢乐地活蹦乱跳。这时，屋内是通明的灯火，庭前是灿烂的火花，屋外是震天的响声，把除夕的热闹气氛推向了最高潮。每到过春节的时候，也正是主妇们在厨房里最忙碌的时刻，年菜都在前几天做好了，而年夜饭总要在年三十当天由掌厨的做出来，而且大年初一的饺子也要在三十晚上包出来。这时家家的砧板都在噔噔噔地忙着剁肉、切菜。此时，砧板声、爆竹声，再夹杂着人们的说笑声，此起彼伏，洋洋盈耳，交织成除夕欢快的乐章。

吃年夜饭是春节家家户户最热闹愉快的时候，丰盛的年菜摆满一桌，合家团聚，围坐桌旁，共吃团圆饭，心头的充实感真是难以言喻。人们既是享受满桌的佳肴盛馔，也是享受那份快乐的气氛。我们这里一般少不了两样东西，一是火锅。一是鱼。火锅沸煮，热气腾腾，温馨撩人，说明红红火火;“鱼”和“余”谐音，是象征“吉庆有余”，也喻示“年年有余”。还有萝卜俗称菜头，祝愿有好彩头;龙虾、爆鱼等煎炸食物，预祝家运兴旺如“烈火烹油”。最后多为一道甜食，祝福往后的日子甜甜蜜蜜，这天，即使不会喝酒的，也要多少喝一点。

一时间，十堰的过节习俗说也说不完，等你到了这里，你就能亲身感受到它的魅力。

每年，我都很期待春节的到来，因为热闹，因为一家人在一起的温馨。

Hello ！welcome to the special Chinese new years edition of discovering China. Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

The night before the examination

The clock struck eleven at night。 The whole house was quiet。 Everyone was in bed except me。 Under the strong light， I looked gloomily before me at a huge pile of that disgusting stuff they call“books”。

I was going to have my examination the next day。 “Whencan I go to bed ” I asked myself。 I did not answer。 In fact I dared not。

The clock struck 12。“Oh， dear！”I cried。 “Ten more books to read before I can go to bed！”We students are the most wretched creatures in the world。

千门万户曈曈日，总把新桃换旧符。

中国最盛大隆重的传统节日——春节到了，家家户户辞旧迎新：大扫除、办年货、做年饭，大人们忙得不亦乐乎，提灯笼、穿新衣、领红包，孩子乐得合不拢嘴，大街小巷都洋溢着浓浓的年味。

一大清早，我在噼里啪啦的鞭炮声中告别美梦，懒洋洋地拖着还未苏醒的身体向门外走去，门口的大红灯笼喜气洋洋地高高挂起，我马上清醒了过来，开心得又蹦又跳；“过年喽！过年喽！”“然然，快帮爸爸递一下浆糊！”只见爸爸踩在板凳上，分别把红对联贴在了门的两侧，最后还在门的正中间倒贴了一个“福”字，我歪着脑袋，觉得特别别扭：“爸爸，为什么福字要倒着贴呢？”爸爸一把抱起了我，在我的小脸蛋上亲了一口说：“宝贝，因为福到了呀！”

贴好对联，一阵油炸丸子的香味刺激着我的味蕾，我和爸爸径直来到厨房，妈妈迎面挡住了我们：“surprise！”她的身后果真暗藏玄机，我迫不及待地拿起肉丸子便往嘴里送，妈妈兴致勃勃地给我和爸爸介绍起来：“这道菜是红烧鲤鱼，代表年年有余；这道菜是金丸粉汤，代表团团圆圆；这道菜是麻辣龙虾，代表鸿运当头……”妈妈说得喜笑颜开，看着这一厨房色香味俱全的美食，我的口水早就“飞流直下三千尺”了。

看春晚是我家春节的传统，一家人围坐在沙发上，有说有笑。终于等到我最喜欢的节目了，TFBOYS组合唱着青春洋溢的歌曲，跳着活力四射的舞蹈出场了，我和弟弟也有模有样地站在电视机前又唱又跳，滑稽可笑的动作逗得爸爸妈妈捧腹大笑。不知不觉，随着主持人的倒计时，新年的钟声准时敲响，黑暗的夜空瞬间五彩斑斓，烟花一簇簇地腾空而起，有的像满天流星，有的像火花四溅，还有的像金花四撒……灿烂的烟花映衬着一家人喜悦的笑脸，依偎在爸爸妈妈身边，我和弟弟感到幸福无比。

我家的春节是喜庆的、热闹的、幸福的……

Far and away the most important holiday in China is Spring Festival，also known as the Chinese New Year. To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West. The dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than the GREgorian calendar，so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February.

To the ordinary Chinese，the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Years Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar. But the 15th of the first month，which normally is called the Lantern Festival，means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country.

Spring Festival is the most importantand popular festival in China.Before Spring Festival ，the people usually clean and decorate their houses.And they go to the Flower Fairs to buy some flowers.During Spring Festival ，the adults usually give lucky money to children.People often get together and have a big meal.Some people eat dumpling for dinner.

Today,lots of people are affected by western culture especially the new generation who born after 1990s.In my opinion,some of western culture is good but some of them are not suited.Learning western culture can let us know about what is the western custom and what differnets between chinese and western.because of comparison we can learn the positive sides such as more confident,independent.On the other side,the negative sides we should not learn.for example,some high school student even younger fall in love with others.They spend much time to do it and forget what more important things they really need to do in that moment.Indeed,every coins have two sides.how to do deal with it,I think let time make the answer.
