“年，我们每年都要过，年夜饭，我们每年都要吃。可是在尝试过数码年、旅游年之后，很多人却不会过年了。吃过9999元一桌的豪华宴之后，很多人却不会吃年夜饭了。”临近春节，中国文联副主席，著名作家冯骥才感慨地说，“吃年夜饭不是个人的事情，它是一个民族一个国家增加亲和力和凝聚力的一种方式。”

冯骥才从民俗学的角度重新阐释了过年和年夜饭对民族文化的意义。

冯骥才说，中国人为什么过年？就是希望在年里塑造一个团聚、欢乐、祥和与平安的生活。团圆、欢乐、祥和、平安，靠什么表现出来？靠年夜饭。中国人过年很有意思，年前由社会往家里跑，年后又跑回社会，除夕就是界限，所以年夜饭就显得非常重要。
