The 9th day of the 9th lunar month is the traditional Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival. It usually falls in October in the Gregorian calendar. In an ancient and mysterious book Yi Jing, or The Book of Changes, number 6 was thought to be of Yin character, meaning feminine or negative, while number 9 was thought to be Yang, meaning masculine or positive. So the number nine in both month and day create the Double Ninth Festival, or Chongyang Festival. Chong in Chinese means double. Also, as double ninth was pronounced the same as the word to signify forever, both are Jiu Jiu, the Chinese ancestors considered it an auspicious day worth celebration. The height people will reach is usually a mountain or a tower. Ancient literary figures have left many poems depicting the activity. Even today, people still swarm to famous or little known mountains on this day.

On this day, people will eat Double Ninth Gao (or Cake). In Chinese, gao (cake) has the same pronunciation with gao (height). People do so just to hope progress in everything they are engaged in. There is no fixed ways for the Double Ninth Cake, but super cakes will have as many as nine layers, looking like a tower.

The Double Ninth Festival is also a time when chrysanthemum blooms. China boasts diversified species of chrysanthemum and people have loved them since ancient times. So enjoying the flourishing chrysanthemum also becomes a key activity on this festival. Also, people will drink chrysanthemum wine. Women used to stick such a flower into their hair or hang its branches on windows or doors to avoid evilness.

In 1989, the Chinese government decided the Double Ninth Festival as Seniors‘ Day. Since then, all government units, organizations and streets communities will organize an autumn trip each year for those who have retired from their posts. Confucius alone gave us much food for thought which is still being advocated but hardly practiced today. For example, ‘self-cultivation, regulating the family, managing the nation, and establishing peace all over the world‘, a standard conduct of the Chinese society for thousands of years, is eclipsed by individual thirst to glean more fortune.

How one‘s own fortune goes curtainly prevail over how a nation‘s does. In China the ammount of bribe money is astonishingly large and the number of corrupt officials which have been brought to the justice is not as large as those who are not yet. Why do these civil servants risk their fame and even lives in defiance of law? Greed and selfishness account for it. Corrupton among public service is but a drop in the ocean when it comes to the demise of the morality. As I walked around the downtown the other day, I found people, with their fancy clothes and stylish hairdos ,appear too materialistic,which is not to my liking. Wasn‘t there a time when things were simpler and people were more humble?Once bogged down in private interest, one finds oneself blinded by the greed and selfishness.

Advocating the traditional moral values about family and community is definitely necessary. Actually it has adopted by the Chinese government as a key policy

to run the coounty by combining the rule of law with the rule of virtue ,which is the essence of Confucianism. I know modernization is necessary for advancement .However ,I hope we will forget the traditional moral values along the way.

Nowadays, with the development of science and technology, fakes appear widely on the market, they range from medicines, 3C products to cooking oil etc. More serious is that these products have entered the Realms of TV advertising, theyhave deeper into human’s lives.

Bad commercial advertisements will undoubtedly take large numbers of side-effect and harm to consumers.If audiences believe the false advertisement and buy the products, both their property and healthy wouldbe damaged. For the audience, they should strengthen the discrimination ability of the false goods, and would not be cheated by the fake television advertising as the cheap price and convenience.

我最喜欢的春节活动时放鞭炮，我最喜欢玩的鞭炮是—“野猪雷”炮竹因为野猪雷炸的声音很响，遇水也不会灭。玩前，我准备了一根香、四个野猪雷和耳罩，就开始了，胆小的弟弟怕把手炸伤了，把炮竹放到平整的地上，拿起香就开始点，弟弟一手在前，一手在后，腿成弓字步，身体向后倾斜，手伸出去点时，不停地抖动。火种跟引线来了一个亲密接触。火一点燃，弟弟就以火箭般的速度冲到我的面前，“砰”一声巨响，鞭炮的碎纸片从空中飘了下来。鞭炮爆炸后，空中飘散着浓浓的烟雾，到处都有火药味。弟弟喘着气对我说着：“哥哥，下次还是你来点吧!”我听了哈哈大笑，背都直不起来了。

终于轮到我了。我一手拿着炮竹，一手拿着香，笔直地站在原地，不像弟弟那样害怕，手中的香和引火线来了一个亲密接触，火花冒了起来，我轻轻地扔了出去，“砰”的一声在半空中炸开了，”我跟弟弟的想法完全相反，“放鞭炮真好玩，再去找爸爸要几根炮竹。”

端午节的习俗很多：吃粽子、赛龙舟、饮雄黄酒、插艾叶、挂菖蒲和蒿草、佩香囊、悬钟馗像、挂荷包、栓五色丝线、点雄黄酒……我只知道前四个：吃粽子自然是最为平常也最为普遍的习俗了，我非常爱吃软糯还带着甜香的粽子;插艾叶也是年年必做的功课;赛龙舟、饮雄黄酒则只是听说过;而剩下的一大串习俗，我不仅不了解，甚至连听都没有听说过。记得小时候我还天真地问过妈妈：“端午节为什么要放假呀?就是为了让我们吃粽子、插艾叶吗?”

何止我如此啊!现在很多孩子和大人都淡化了我们的传统节日，仅仅沉迷于放假的喜悦之中，未曾去想想这个节日是怎么来的，为什么有这个节日，是纪念谁的，是干什么的。他们更热衷于过洋节，对西方的节日、习俗倒是如数家珍，玩得乐此不疲。

现在，许多人已经对端午节失去了兴趣，更多的是将这个节日用来进行购物、旅游等休闲活动，或是因为喜欢粽子的美味，才想起端午节;真心实意想要纪念屈原的人，虽非屈指可数，但也是少之又少。还有人对屈原的死大做文章，称屈原是他人所害、失足溺水、被人下药等等，扭曲事实，添油加醋地仅是为了吸引眼球。有人还说，屈原的爱国只是说说而已，他并没有为此付诸任何实际行动，无法证明他真的爱国。亡国之后，屈原悲愤至极，投江而死，也被人认为是懦弱的表现。

屈原并非武将，不能冲赴前线，率兵杀敌，马革裹尸;作为文官，他努力上谏过，但毫无用处，那他除了痛心疾首，又能有什么办法呢?而且，他仅凭一人之力根本无法复兴国家，既然如此，他唯有以血祭国，以身殉国，唤醒人们。屈原是用他强烈的爱国热情支撑起他的斗志。

任用时，他没有停止过斗争;被疏远时，他没有停止过斗争;被流放时，也没有半点动摇过他的斗志;就连在殉死之时也不曾泯灭过他的斗志。因为爱国，他充满斗志;因为爱国，他洁身自好;因为爱国，他忠贞不渝。他借《离骚》抒发了不屈不挠的抗争精神和忧国忧民的爱国热情，爱国是他全部精神的精华、源泉和力量。

When I got to the field with my friend. I was both excited and nervous. When I saw the first height, my heart could hardly heat.

盼望已久的这一天终于到来了，今天我们回奶奶家过年了，我太高兴了。

早上我还在睡梦中就被一阵阵的爆竹声给惊醒了，我连忙穿上衣服也去放爆竹，这二踢脚可真响啊，吓的我都不敢点了。捂着耳朵往屋里跑。这时奶奶和妈妈他们已经在忙碌中午的大餐了。有鸡，有鱼，有青菜，都是我爱吃的，馋的我真想现在就吃两口，上手一抓，被妈妈打了回来：“馋猫，一会再吃。”我做了个鬼脸跑屋去看电视，就等着吃午饭了。

不一会，一桌丰盛的午餐做好了。我一看，口水都要流出来了，我们一家人坐在桌旁。开始吃饭了，这一大桌的菜我都不知道先吃哪个了。奶奶说：“先吃鱼，年年有余。”我夹了一口，真好吃，这鱼是爸爸做的，爸爸最会做鱼了。真是别有一番滋味。我喝着饮料，吃着美味佳肴，看着电视，这种心情，真是太好了，过年真好！

到了晚上，我们一家人就等着看央视春节联欢晚会了，这也是一年就一次啊。真好看，每一个节目都那么精彩，等到快吃年夜饭的时候，奶奶和妈妈已经把饺子包好了，奶奶把热气腾腾的饺子，端上来了，真香啊。外面这爆竹声，此起彼伏的。爸爸一边放爆竹，我们一边吃饭真开心。
