The International Childrens Day (ICD) is celebrated in numerous countries, usually (but not always) on June 1 each year.

The ICD had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. It is not clear as to why June 1 was chosen as the ICD: one theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva.

June 1 has since been observed as the ICD by numerous countries, especially by Communist countries; in the Western world the ICD is usually celebrated on other days of the year (if at all)， and there is often little public awareness about these celebrations. Nonetheless, in recent years even some groups within the United States started observing the ICD on June 1.

Youth

Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .

Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

我的竞选目标是文娱委员。实不相瞒，对这一最“高”级别的“文艺部长”一职我是垂涎已久，因此，我今天走上讲台，不是凑凑热闹，而是有备而来。我自信，我的竞争优势是无人能比的。?

Chinese people always appreciate the purposes and principles of Olympic ideal, support the efforts of Olympic Games to promote world peace. The Chinese Government and people are doing our the utmost/best to prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and shooting at the pageant with advocating Olympic ideal, sparkpluging world peace and enhancing the relationships among the world. Olympic spirit are gonna spread again in orient cultural ancient China.

The government and people of China have always admired the purposes and principles of the Olympic spirit and supported the efforts made by the Olympics in promoting world peace. The Chinese government and people are doing our utmost in preparation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It is our hope to make it a grand gathering that will carry forward the Olympic spirit, promote world peace and enhance the friendship among people of the world, so that the Olympic spirit will flourish once again, this time in China, an oriental country with an ancient civilization.

However, we meed dreams. They nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. They keep us going. On its journey, the flame will be seen by and inspire more human beings than any previous relay.

I am afraid I cannot prevent the whole picture of our cultural programs within such a short period of time. Actually, what we have shown you here today is only a fraction of Beijing that awaits you. Last week, I took part in an English speech contest which was held by our teachers. There were twelve students in the final contest. I was one of them.

Fifteen minutes before my turn, I picked my topic and prepared for it. I wrote down the outlines and organized what I was going to say. However, when I stood in front of all judges and students, I was extremely nervous. My mind was totally empty.

Then I took a deep breath to relax myself and started my speech. The result was not as good as I expected, but I preferred to regard it as a challenge to myself, whose process was the most important for me. I can learn a lot from this contest. I am sure I will be better next time.

从组织部的一名小干事，到组织部部长。其中的经历很难用一两句话来述说。但是我想用用三句话做一个总结，这三点也是我对学弟学妹们的忠告：第一：学生会干部不是干部，是同学们的服务员，更是大家值得信赖的朋友。第二：要让别人成为你的最佳合作伙伴，你们得首先成为好朋友。第三：所有对你的批评甚至是指责都是有依据有缘由的。我觉得在学生会的工作中要处理好三种关系：第一：与同学之间的关系，第二：与同事之间的关系，第三：与上级领导之间的关系。在两年的学生会工作生活中，我没有把学生会当做是一个权利集中的官场，没有在这里为自己攫取自己的私利，我是把这里当做一个可以付出真心和真情的家，我一直认为：用真情是可以换来真情的。事实上，我在这里也交到了很多朋友!他们让我在学生会里在大学里不再感到孤独;在很多人大呼“伤不起”的学生会，我找到了自己的快乐!在很多人都感叹神马都是浮云的大学里，我找到了自己的价值所在!
