Hello ！welcome to the special Chinese new years edition of discovering China. Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

下雪啦!我正在家里望着窗外纷纷扬扬的雪花。雪终于停了，我一溜烟地跑出家门，冲向这一片银装素裹的雪白天地里，我和伙伴们一起打雪仗，堆雪人，尽情地享受雪花带来的乐趣。

“十，九，八……三，二，一!!!”随着倒计时，我们迎来了新的一年，外面鞭炮齐鸣，火树银花，我又长了一岁了，当然最开心的是，我拿到了一只只厚厚的压岁包。里面包含着家人对我深深地爱……

过了除夕，新年正月开始，许多家门口都还贴着红红的春联，大家走亲访友，享受着这个合家团圆的假期!

spring festival ,known as the chinese new year, is the most important holiday in china.from late january to early february,chinese people are busy preparing for the new year.they clean their houses ,have their hair cut,and buy new clothes .jiaozi or dumpling is most popular.to those who live far away from their home,this festival is also a framily reunion occasion.

and they often go back home to celebrate the festival with their family.the first day of the new year is the time when people visit their friends adn wish each other good luck in the new year.

My happy Spring Festival After the New Year’s Eve dinner with my family, we began to sit down in front of the TV, and enjoyed 2008 CCTV Spring Festival gala. At about ten o’clock, the black sky was lightened by lots of fireworks with colorful light and happy sound. We stop watching the CCTV 2008 CCTV Spring Festival gala, and began to climb up the balcony to see the beautiful fireworks view, and my father took some fireworks up, and we also began to play fireworks. When I woke up in the first day of New Year, my father and mother gave two red packets to me, and blessed me that everything will go well on me. I thanked them, and accepted the red packets happily. I have been waiting for the day that I can get lots of red packets. This is my happiest time of the year. After lunch, both my family went to the park, the streets, and the shops or supermarkets. We took many photos in the park, and bought many things in the shops or supermarket.

I met my uncles and aunts, they all blessed us happy New Year and gave me red packets. I was too happy to count how many red packets I got. The following days, we visited my grandparents and some of relatives. We happily talk with them, and brought some presents to them, and also received some New Year presents. This was how did I spend my Spring Festival; I really enjoyed myself in Spring Festival.

New Year is our favorite holiday for children, because the New Year can eat dinner not only, also can get lucky money. However, I am the most happy New Year this year is that the team activities, it let me once again feel happy to help others.

Just before the team activities of snow, snow removal, so we decided to help other peoples car has obtained the consent of the classmate mother, we began to action.

That day the weather is really cold, but we can not care so much. 那天天气真是冷极了，但我们可顾不了那么多。这时，我们的小队长陶心盈就开始分工了：“唐宁珩，你和石雨卉，擦车子的前面，徐晨和张博纳擦车子的上面，陈飞宇和我一起擦车子的后面!”分好了工，我们都开开心心的去做自己的事情，我们一边擦还一边说说笑笑，很是高兴。

瞧!我们的队长陶心盈干的多起劲啊!只见她先用手把车子上的雪堆到一起，把它们扔到地上去，再用手指把车子缝隙里的雪擦干净。我想：我们的队长那么认真，我也应该向她学习!

终于把车子擦好了，同学的妈妈看见我们把车子擦的这么干净，就表扬我们道：“哇!你们真是一群助人为乐的好孩子呀!”虽然我们的手和脸被冻得通红，但我们一点也不觉得冷，反而心里像吃了蜜一样甜，

我们如果从身边的小事做起，助人为乐，尊老爱幼，那么我们的社会将会变的更美好!

The Spring Festival is my most favorite festival, because it’s time for

family gathering. And the Spring Festival is a new start of a year. It brings me

hope and courage. On Spring Festival, my parents usually take me back to my

hometown. My hometown is a small town. Many of my relatives move to the larger

cities, but we usually go home when the Spring Festival comes. During the

gathering, we share our lives with others and care about each other. Of course,

big meals are necessary. Families prepare for the big meals together. They all

cook their specialty dishes. Therefore, our meals are always delicious. We often

stay at home for three days and then we leave with others’ wishes. I like the

Spring Festival, because I like family gathering.
