在大多数学校和学院考试作为主要手段,判断一个学生成功与否掌握某一特定主题。虽然它确实工作很有效,其副作用也是巨大的。

最不受欢迎的影响是,考试鼓励不好的学习习惯。考试分数是为他的学业成绩的唯一标准,学生是驱动的机械记忆而不是创造性地思考问题。考试不能促使学生去追求更多的知识,而是限制他阅读;他们不让他持续在整个学期学习,但是在考试周诱导填鸭式。

考试也降低教学标准。因为教师本身往往通过考试成绩来判断,他们往往通过考试成绩来判断,减少训练他们的学生考试技巧。没有对象可以教成功仅仅通过与意图接近考试。
